Utough Weight Room results for Offense

These South Florida high schools are wayyyy behind. They're not doing cleans, deadlifts, squats, plyo, etc. They don't have strength coaches. ****, they're lucky if more than one coach shows up to watch them lift. (i.e. do curls, bench and upright rows)

Butch Davis had a theory on south Florida athletes, that they were so poorly trained in eating right and weight room conditioning, that he valued a south florida kid over other areas if two kids had similar traits. Nothing ground breaking or newsworthy, but it is sort of mind boggling that as popular as crossfit or football is in general with high school coaches who played at the college and pro level, that the across the board fitness and conditioning of the south Florida high school kid is so poor.

I don't think Vert is that important for Duke anyway... Yea yea explosiveness but Duke has proven his worth... He'll be explosive as he continues to recover. I just hope the added weight doesn't slow him down... Most of Duke yards came from out running people...

This. On field performance trumps any weight room measure. Weight room work is general. Duke has proven his worth plenty. I'd wager that he'll lose some of that weight once he gets moving again. Summer heat, an increased volume of sprint work and then the increase in positional drills will take some of it off of him. I can't imagine he's been too a whole lot of running, cutting, etc just yet

These numbers aren't that great. He'll as a 195lb MLB in HS, I squared 450, 270 dead lift, and 325lb bench with a 525lb dead lift.

So I expect d 1 athletes to at least beat me. Smh I had bs offers to some MAC schools but opted on the military because of my grades. Smh at some of these kids

Stop looking at the max numbers and look at IMPROVEMENT instead. You can't blame Swasey for a guy squatting 400 when he came in here only squatting 325.

It's very obvious to me that many South Florida athletes don't (or barely) train properly in high school. That would explain the fact that they put up decent bench numbers but poor squat and clean numbers.

You can point to LSU or Bama all you want but those teams are RECRUITING ****-strong country boys who were DEVELOPED IN HIGH SCHOOL.

This is just another instance where the poor coaching in South Florida sets us back a little bit.

The issue here is coaching not strength. When our guys go to the combines they perform just as good or better than Lsu and bama guys. Agree..the root of all this is recruiting and that falls on golden.

MiamiNights (LeMeyers) once again curiously supportive of the worst coach on the staff.

The team is slow and weak. Miami recruits the same kids LSU and Bama and FSU do. In fact every school makes it their mission to come to South Florida for these "weak" high school kids.

I'm telling y'all...

The weight training, just like the coaching, is a joke down here. Most of the kids we recruit have never done squats, deadlifts and cleans. When Juwan Dowels and Fabian Moreau transferred to our school all they had ever done before was bench, curl and upright rows. Lmao

All anybody cares about down here is their forty and/or bench. (i.e. The typical ****) These high schools haven't moved on from the prehistoric junk. Also most schools don't have anybody qualified enough to teach these kids the more complex lifts.

IMO this is even more of a reason to not be running this type of defense. Also more of a reason for us to run more spread on offense.

THIS IS A SPEED REGION. We generally don't have very strong kids down here. Actually, some of the strongest high school kids down here play at the schools who have the fewest D1 athletes. (i.e. Cooper City, Western, etc) So what does that tell you?

They don't come down here for the strength positions and if they do it's cause the kid is special.

WCD:

So you are saying it's only our big men who are putting up pathetic numbers? Bc that MUST be the case, since LSU FSU etc have no issue recruiting "weak" skill guys of SoFla.

Our skill guys are also underperforming. And yet you said "well LSU and FSU recruit country strong guys". And yet every year they pilfer from our area.

It shouldn't take till they get to the combine to maximize their physical abilities. But when you have the same under qualified guy running things, that what happens.

I think most high schools across the country are still that way. I'm from Indiana, when I went to college, I had never even seen a clean or a deadlift. We were completely on our own when it came to lifting. If anyone even went in the weight room, it was for about 20 minutes, knocked out a few curls and a couple reps on the bench then ran the **** out of the track, bleachers and hills. We won though because we had better athletes. As easy as it is for a kid to just rely on their natural athletic ability to get by at the high school level, I think it's just as easy for a coach to fall into that too when you have a team full of great athletes year after year.

No. I said that Bama and LSU don't put a premium on our big men. They come down here for the skill players cause no region in the country has skill like us. Teams around the country aren't knocking down our doors for linemen unless they're special.

You're saying that those teams put emphasis on recruiting South Florida. Yeah they do. FOR SPEED positions.

If anybody thinks we have the same kids (in terms of brute strength) as everybody else in the nation then they're clueless. It's foolish to even think that. That's like saying everybody else in the nation has our speed.

And yet SFla skill guys don't seem to have an issue improving strength/speed/burst elsewhere. Here they do. Coincidence? Three different staffs over a decade just happen to have bad luck by getting the genetically inferior kids from south Florida that everyone wanted?

Shall I review the offer list of all of our big men as well? Or show you a list of how many front 7 players from our area excelled elsewhere in the last 2 regimes? You have tailored your argument to basically say "well all south Florida kids are weak....and the few strong ones there are, somehow every other program is able to use their crystal ball to know about and land".

I find it highly unlikely that not only does every other staff in the country know who the true genetic gems are, but that THREE Miami staffs IN A ROW all guessed wrong.

FSU is doing alright

What he's saying isn't that far fetched. It goes hand in hand with a lot of peoples' complaints that our defensive scheme doesn't fit the local talent. It's tough to argue with him in that regard.

You'll ****** slurp up any excuse huh?

Weight training and conditioning is no different here than the rest of the country.
Whoever claims kids don't do any squats or powerlifting down here cause of 2 kids that transferred to his school that didn't is reaching.
What differs mostly is body types and work ethic. Natural ability and skill is there. the other is missing for the most part until they reach college and come into a program like Golden is running which the previous 2 coaches failed at.
Look at a kid like Aldarius Johnson. All the natural athletic ability in the world until his poor work ethic caught up to him.
