Utough Weight Room results for Offense

Weight training and conditioning is no different here than the rest of the country.
Whoever claims kids don't do any squats or powerlifting down here cause of 2 kids that transferred to his school that didn't is reaching.
What differs mostly is body types and work ethic. Natural ability and skill is there. the other is missing for the most part until they reach college and come into a program like Golden is running which the previous 2 coaches failed at.
Look at a kid like Aldarius Johnson. All the natural athletic ability in the world until his poor work ethic caught up to him.

VERY uniformed statement

and the rest of your post is nonsense. WCD is on point. The "strength and conditioning" coaches at some of those schools have 0 experience or education in that field.

The Barry Sanders of CiS is one shifty *** dude. Just when you think you know what his next move is. He stuns you with a link from a pay site. That only a dumb ************ would pay for.

Including the one at the U of Miami.....

A few things wrong with your statement.
First I highly doubt you know the qualification of these coaches and two LOL at thinking you need some sort of formal education in the field to be a S&C coach. Most of these coaches were former ballers themselves and know what it takes S&C wise to get these kids to get stronger. Power lifting, benching and squats are basic staples of S&C programs around South Florida.
As usual WCD is talking out his *** and folks here swallow it up.

I know that a 350 pound bench is strong, As is a plus 400 squat. Not sure what you guys think our numbers should be. This ain't a weight lifting contest.

I think the numbers are inline with other programs. Prove me wrong

I have a son that plays defense tackle for Cincinnati Moeller. He's a freshman and he's squat 405 right now.....

Well then, I did the same thing as you didn't i? What facts do you have to prove your first statement?

Facts I have are what I've seen with my own eyes. I've seen multiple south Florida teams go through their daily workouts and then I see a team like Oakleaf (Jax) go through their workouts and the difference is night and day.

And you're wrong again. I've spoken to the coaches & players of multiple programs and the ones that have a degree in exercise science or human performance usually have better programs. The degree won't make you a good coach but to the coaches that applied themselves correctly the benefit is enormous. And your logic is a little off. I don't need a degree to become a obtain a salary in the 1m+ range. But look at the statistics of people with that income and how many received a higher level education. "Around 80% of millionaires are college graduates." There are S&C coaches that can be successful w/o a degree. But those coaches are dedicated to learning everything about their occupation and also were taught by a good S&C coach in college. They just apply the same principles. Just because someone is a "former baller" does not mean they're qualified at all. Plenty of former nba, nfl, or mlb players that can't coach. Plenty of former sports professionals that get front office jobs and have 0 idea what to do.

But, by all means, please tell me what you know about south Florida S&C since you obviously know more than WCD and myself.

And yet SFla skill guys don't seem to have an issue improving strength/speed/burst elsewhere. Here they do. Coincidence? Three different staffs over a decade just happen to have bad luck by getting the genetically inferior kids from south Florida that everyone wanted?

Shall I review the offer list of all of our big men as well? Or show you a list of how many front 7 players from our area excelled elsewhere in the last 2 regimes? You have tailored your argument to basically say "well all south Florida kids are weak....and the few strong ones there are, somehow every other program is able to use their crystal ball to know about and land".

I find it highly unlikely that not only does every other staff in the country know who the true genetic gems are, but that THREE Miami staffs IN A ROW all guessed wrong.

Do you have any scientifically significant data to support your assertion that S FL skill players improve their strength numbers so much more dramatically at other colleges than they do at UM?

Seems guys like Waters and Dorsett have improved quite dramatically. So has Duke other than his vertical, which might have a little something to do with his ankle being shredded a few months ago.

I'm telling y'all...

The weight training, just like the coaching, is a joke down here. Most of the kids we recruit have never done squats, deadlifts and cleans. When Juwan Dowels and Fabian Moreau transferred to our school all they had ever done before was bench, curl and upright rows. Lmao

All anybody cares about down here is their forty and/or bench. (i.e. The typical ****) These high schools haven't moved on from the prehistoric junk. Also most schools don't have anybody qualified enough to teach these kids the more complex lifts.

IMO this is even more of a reason to not be running this type of defense. Also more of a reason for us to run more spread on offense.

THIS IS A SPEED REGION. We generally don't have very strong kids down here. Actually, some of the strongest high school kids down here play at the schools who have the fewest D1 athletes. (i.e. Cooper City, Western, etc) So what does that tell you?

This is why I continuously chime in that we have virtually no idea what guys like Chad Thomas and D-Jax will grow into. Could be ******' anything once they really begin to hit olympic lifts.

LOL @ this dude telling ME what goes on within South Florida high school football.

CaneAlmighty...do you even live down here?

You really have no idea what you're talking about and considering what i do you might wanna take a backseat on this one. I know kids and have coached kids from all over the county. I've also worked at many camps and been the spotter for the bench tests.

We all know the coaching down here sucks. Why would the S&C be any different? Smh

MiamiNights (LeMeyers) once again curiously supportive of the worst coach on the staff.

The team is slow and weak. Miami recruits the same kids LSU and Bama and FSU do. In fact every school makes it their mission to come to South Florida for these "weak" high school kids.

Didn't know FSU was in Miami.

Smh. You're not getting it.

These guys are weak for being in college for multiple years. I was able to put up 300+ bench in high school and we didnt have any kind of program **** most guys didnt even lift like they supposed too. We even a had one guy that could put up 400 on the bench.

if you don't think having a formal education is beneficial for S&C then you should sit this conversation out, with all due respect. You should have a firm grasp of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, physics and a firm grasp of the endocrine, muscular and nueromuscular response to various resistance and conditioning training regiments. It doesn't matter as much in team sports because skill will ultimately decide most contests but in sports like weightlifting and track/field, the results of their weightroom work are directly correlated to on field performance in a measurable way. It's a science and an art. Don't discredit it because you can get big without it. The Russians, Chinese and other eastern european countries don't dominate weightlifting on accident (don't say drugs because everyone has them).

More on topic: People are caught up way too far in numbers. Weight room work is general work. Does a higher bench press give you a higher ceiling for certain skills on the field? Sure. Does it ensure performance increases on the field? No. There's a reason that weight room numbers don't have any direct correlation to on field performance or something like scholarship offer numbers. Football is dominated by specific skills that aren't developed in the weightroom. Look for improvement, generally, and look for on field improvements. I know it's the off season but 600 lb squatters don't mean **** if they can't shed blocks or stay engaged with their blocking assignments.

You also need to consider the socioeconomic status of a lot of the areas down here. These kids can't eat the same style of nutrient dense, well balanced diet that is available at most colleges and even the high school kids that have more money. It's an often over looked aspect of this whole thing.

I've seen a lot of people say they do this or that, coaches even lie on numbers for kids. A lot of time the spotter is helping the guy lifting significantly could this be part of the issue at other schools? I mean look at the "hand timed" 40s for the lsu players earlier we know those were inaccurate.
