Maybe I'm on the only one that see's it this way, but to me, this is a teaching moment... a coach showing a kid that he has to keep his word. If anything, I like that Ice is telling him that he should go to USC and honor the word he gave to the coaches out there. The fact that Thomas is willing to do it, goes to show the character of the kid.
I'm in sales, and as is our nature, I can actually spin this in a positive way.
Thomas was so excited about Miami, and visiting with all the other big time talents on the same weekend, that be basically said "fack off" to USC... which is great to hear as a fan, but in the end, isn't the grown up thing to do. If he had taken his OV to Miami he would've gone against his word to USC and given up a perfect oportunity to visit Cali/see a school on the West Coat. His coach reigned him back in, which shows he's coachable and has a good head on his shoulders. In the end, this kid is a Cane, but needed to do the right thing before pulling the trigger with the hometown team.
You may be in sales, but I'm not really buying that. It's not like 6 was sitting around his house, thinking "****, am I doing the right thing in cancelling my USC OV?" USC Coach came to his school and told him "You are not doing the right thing by cancelling your OV." You can spin Thomas agreeing with USC coach as him being "a grown up," or as him "being pressured into doing something he didn't want to do" and "not making decisions based on his own interest." I see it in the latter fashion. Just my opinion. Lot of time left though, nothing set in stone.
