USC guilts Matt Thomas into sticking with his plan....

Maybe I'm on the only one that see's it this way, but to me, this is a teaching moment... a coach showing a kid that he has to keep his word. If anything, I like that Ice is telling him that he should go to USC and honor the word he gave to the coaches out there. The fact that Thomas is willing to do it, goes to show the character of the kid.

I'm in sales, and as is our nature, I can actually spin this in a positive way.

Thomas was so excited about Miami, and visiting with all the other big time talents on the same weekend, that be basically said "fack off" to USC... which is great to hear as a fan, but in the end, isn't the grown up thing to do. If he had taken his OV to Miami he would've gone against his word to USC and given up a perfect oportunity to visit Cali/see a school on the West Coat. His coach reigned him back in, which shows he's coachable and has a good head on his shoulders. In the end, this kid is a Cane, but needed to do the right thing before pulling the trigger with the hometown team.

You may be in sales, but I'm not really buying that. It's not like 6 was sitting around his house, thinking "****, am I doing the right thing in cancelling my USC OV?" USC Coach came to his school and told him "You are not doing the right thing by cancelling your OV." You can spin Thomas agreeing with USC coach as him being "a grown up," or as him "being pressured into doing something he didn't want to do" and "not making decisions based on his own interest." I see it in the latter fashion. Just my opinion. Lot of time left though, nothing set in stone.

7-6 record with all the top 5 star players should say enough of what a hoax Kiffin is. An article about Kiffin and how he keeps his promises. 6 should put two and two together. UCLA is the top team in southern California these days if he really likes it out here.

Redlands (Calif.) East Valley High School and USC coach Lane Kiffin are at odds thanks to a deferred scholarship.

Defensive end Kylie Fitts, a four-star recruit Rivals ranked seventh nationally at his position, was committed to USC and took extra high school classes so he could graduate early and enroll at the university in January.

Fitts talked to a couple USC coaches at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 5 and they said they were ready to have him on campus. But the following Monday, he received a call saying his scholarship was no longer available for the spring semester.

Fitts was supposed to be on campus on Jan. 10.

The Trojans didn't pull his scholarship entirely, but deferred him to the fall because they didn't have a scholarship freed up from a graduating senior like they thought they would. However, since Fitts had already graduated high school, he had nowhere to go and didn't want to wait.

“Recruiting man, it’s crazy,” Redlands East Valley coach Kurt Bruich told the Riverside Press-Enterprise. “He’s wanted to go to USC for as long as he can remember and now he feels betrayed. He did everything he was supposed to do from his end and he was a loyal kid. I think they thought because of that loyalty he’d still want to go there. He said to me ‘What am I supposed to do for the next five months?’ It seems shady. I think it seems shady to everyone.”

Consequently, Fitts, who was recruited and offered by several major programs around the country, has decommitted from the Trojans and opened up his recruiting.

Bruich told the Riverside Press-Enterprise that Notre Dame, Washington and UCLA were all back in the mix.

The whole scenario has caused some consternation between Bruich, who runs one of the better programs in the state, and USC. Bruich even took to Twitter on Friday to express his feelings about USC and specifically coach Lane Kiffin.

Recruiting issues like this happen everywhere, but this isn’t exactly the kind of publicity USC needs right now, especially on the heels of an underachieving season, which resulted in a bowl loss to Georgia Tech and a 7-6 record.

Sounded to me like the decision was made between him and his High school coach... granted it came after the USC coach visited, but I doubt he just agreed to visit again, right then and there.

Regardless, with all the ***** **** whining going on in this thread, i was just trying to give a new perspective that nobody had brought up yet. People are gonna think what they think and there's nothing I, or anyone else can do about that.

Here's another line of thinking. He isn't seriously considering USC and didn't bring his Mom to Bama so it's pretty obvious at this point that it's a FSU/Miami race. What does this visit say about his interest in the Noles, that has you folks changing your tune all of the sudden?

I'd say he can just take his OV here instead of his scheduled UGA visit, but apparently he doesn't like to break his plans. Sounds like he doesn't give too many ***** about ever taking an OV here. Not good.

sorry bro as i don't keep tabs, but the point is that he has been here and seen the goods. if it was a tampa/orlando/etc kid who hasn't been on campus at all or as much it would be a bigger concern.
Fine bro, I don't keep a spread sheet either, but lets just bet that its not that many. Like very few. I'll let some of those with better memories educate us all on the past to address my (somewhat) rhetorical question.

Why use up 1/5 OV's on a school a few miles from home is all i'm sayin.

Well, history shows that 99.9% of our Dade commits take a UM official visit, so Thomas not taking one is a concern.

History shows that 99.9% of the Dade county recruits that we give our full attention end up Canes.

uh no. off the top of my head, Corey Lemonier, RJF, Kayvon Webster, Teddy Bridgewater, Keith Brown ...

man oh man, i dont post much on this site, but some of you are being negative as **** right now, we dont know how this will play out, you never know if this kid will cancel again, or if he will actually take that last visit the weekend before signing day, no one knows, should he be on campus absolutely yes, but the way some of you have turned into a bunch of negative girls about him is amazing me, a month ago everybody and i mean everybody was saying that he is a cane and this and that, now one rescheduling and you all are in panic mode.

People are posting statistics and facts about guys signing with Miami who didn't make an OV. No refuting that.

oh no, i have no problems with that, its just people are being negative and saying that this kid is not coming here and all that, WE DONT KNOW!!!!!, as someone else posted earlier it is still tuesday he can change at the end of the week, that is how recruiting is, kids canceling visits left and right,

I guess, but if he changed his mind again I'd start worrying about his mental health.

It says he's scheduled to make an OV to UGA on the 1st, hopefully that's the one he dumps for a Miami visit.

IMO

If Matthew Thomas was leaning to Miami, he would of been here this weekend. I am sure the coaches made that point to him.

If you were a recruit, and you were leaning towards a school, don't you think you would visit ton the most important recruiting day they are asking you to OV on?

One thing i trust
The relationship between Golden and MT6's coach harris has got to be strong enough that Golden knows 100% if MT6 will be a cane or not. I think MT6 already made up his mind unless something big happens. FSU or Cane we don't know. BUT I am sure Golden knows and that makes it a tolerable situation

Let me revise my statement by saying that when all things are equal most Dade County guys that Miami recruits extremely hard, end up staying

Teddy was in the midst of a coaching change
I'm almost positive that we backed off of Kayvon (who knows what happened with Shantard at the helm)
Don't know the backstory on KB

not good. Could have told USC that he'd reschedule with them.

People aren't looking at the big picture. USC isn't a threat. The worry is that Thomas doesn't appear to want to visit Miami and be pressured to commit.

Hopefully we can steal that last visit from Georgia, because if he doesn't visit, he isn't signing here. Hate to say it but FSU is sitting pretty right now with their 1/25 visit date with Thomas. If mom takes that visit with him, we're in trouble

no matter how much I try to convince myself otherwise this sticks with me.. he can always reschedule USC and he done'st want to "waste" a OV on Miami. If he was leaning Miami he would of made this trip.

is this going to be one of those

"i am a HUGE miami fan, but I will be going to ______" ?

That line from the interview he did with Pete a few weeks ago sticks with me regarding FSU. He said he wanted to get up there to show his Mom the classrooms, dorms, locker rooms, etc. At the time I said it read like a kid who wanted to get his Mother's blessing and show her it would be ok for him to go there. I'm starting to think that's the case more and more.

Kid felt badly about letting his Mama's already-purchased plane ticket go to waste.

I think it's that simple.

If he visited this weekend, I'd be feeling supremely confident.

Instead, I'm just chillin' confident.

Interesting thread. Here's my thoughts on this thread and the issue at hand:

In this thread I see people whose opinions I respect w/r/t recruiting saying they are concerned. As am I. Matthew Thomas should take an OV to Miami but more importantly, he should be taking one THIS WEEKEND.

Kids who dont take an OV DO NOT COMMIT to that school. THAT is the rule. Yes, you can find a Jawand Blue, who was a plan C kid for coach Golden that ended up getting an offer extended to him the night before signing day and switched his commitment from Va Tech. Again, that is an exception.

Tracy Howard: Perfect example - TH said all along that he did not need to take an OV to UM because he knew the school and knew the area. Coach Golden was able to educate him as to why he was not making an apples to apples comparison. It was when TH took his OV that he really changed his mind. If you want proof, look at Tracy's mom's facebook posts about what it was like to have a one on one meeting (& photo sesh) with Donna Shalala. His (rather hot looking ;) mom was blown away by the FORMAL EXPERIENCE of an OV. To not grant UM the ability to provide an apples to apples comparison is to limit your knowledge of each school.

The importance of the last major recruiting weekend:
Every program brings in their heavy hitter recruits and commits on their last major recruiting weekend. Coach Golden has that set up for this weekend. This is the weekend where a top recruit can get the best feel for who he will room with, play with, study with and train with over the next four years. For MT to skip this weekend is an extremely negative development in my opinion.

FWIW

THISSSSSSSSSS. Amazing that a well thought out logical post gets completely overlooked by the tards playing *** for tat in broken english.

Wish we had some local kids like Duke in this class. Too bad the primadonnas grow on trees in South FL

There are kids like Duke in this class. Stop with the nonsense.

We have LOCAL KIDS in this class who have been committed since Day 1 and have gone out of their way to publicly recruit for UM? Offered their jersey number to another recruit? Please, do tell who they are?

Burns and Carter

Carter flirted with Lsu. Coaches went and met him at the airport to talk to him before he left. Neither have been publicly recruiting for UM either. But, both have stayed on board and didnt bad mouth UM or do anything else shady. Cant deny that.

PS - did you really put "stupid" down as a comment on my post?
