USC guilts Matt Thomas into sticking with his plan....

I don't think he goes to USC, think Kirkland drags him along to UM. It is hard to say no to an adult face to face but a phone call/text is easy.

"He had it that way in the first place, so he went back to his original set-up," Booker T. Washington coach Tim Harris said. "You know how kids are. They want to make everyone happy but they have to stick to the plan and let it run, stuff like that. We're just trying to get them to get a plan and stick to it."

"No, I don't think it's a bad thing for Miami with him," Harris said. "I just think he had the schedule originally set that way. Kids don't want to say no. He stuck to what the plan was because it gets too confusing at that point (to reschedule the USC visit). He went off the schedule and now he'll keep the schedule he had originally."

Maybe I'm on the only one that see's it this way, but to me, this is a teaching moment... a coach showing a kid that he has to keep his word. If anything, I like that Ice is telling him that he should go to USC and honor the word he gave to the coaches out there. The fact that Thomas is willing to do it, goes to show the character of the kid.

I'm in sales, and as is our nature, I can actually spin this in a positive way.

Thomas was so excited about Miami, and visiting with all the other big time talents on the same weekend, that be basically said "fack off" to USC... which is great to hear as a fan, but in the end, isn't the grown up thing to do. If he had taken his OV to Miami he would've gone against his word to USC and given up a perfect oportunity to visit Cali/see a school on the West Coat. His coach reigned him back in, which shows he's coachable and has a good head on his shoulders. In the end, this kid is a Cane, but needed to do the right thing before pulling the trigger with the hometown team.

Wish we had some local kids like Duke in this class. Too bad the primadonnas grow on trees in South FL

There are kids like Duke in this class. Stop with the nonsense.

We have LOCAL KIDS in this class who have been committed since Day 1 and have gone out of their way to publicly recruit for UM? Offered their jersey number to another recruit? Please, do tell who they are?

Count me on the team that wishes we had a few more diehard LOCAL UM kids around.

As long as 6 visits Miami at some point then I don't see it as that big of an issue. However, to expect Miami to land ALL of these undecided SF kids seems unrealistic and contrary to history. We will get our share but we can expect to lose one, maybe two.

We're losing John Franklin Michael Johnson is that enough for FSU, or should we give them more

So unless you get a one a million type kid like Duke, you are a primadonna?

It's the biggest choice of their lives up to this point. Un****ingreal.

The kids who commit, decommit, want to wait until signing day for all the attention instead of committing and trying to make the team better by going public and recruiting = primadonna to me. Biggest choice of their lives doesnt have to be made on signing day. Theyve been recruited for years now.

You guys are part of the reason these South FL kids are like this. Make every excuse in the book for them. Take your visits. Have fun. Then commit and start doing what is best for the team by recruiting. Theyve been saying signing day since they were 15 years old because they want the attention. Why is it a lot of kids from other parts of the country dont do all this nonsense? Why is it we have around 8 of our major targets still undecided a couple weeks from signing day?

Funny that out-of-states dudes like Gall and Standish The Mandish are diehard Canes who help recruit and ooze love of the U, but none of the local guys can muster any of that love.

That's what I've been wondering about all along

This speaks volumes on how he feels about Miami. Just shows how other schools like USC have such pull on kids that they can take whoever they whenever they want while Golden has to fight tooth and nail for every kid.

i see it EXACTLY the same. Coach telling a player that u gave your word to USC and that a man sticks to his word which is a great life lesson for these kids. i see a lot people are caught up with an OV vs and un official. would i like to see him come on the 18th? of course, but as long as he visits sometime im cool with it

I fully agree kids should enjoy recruiting, visits, etc before making their decision. Its just odd that so many local kids have such a hard time making their decision before signing day. If they truly need that time, then by all means take that time. But there is no way all of these kids dont know where they are going yet. They enjoy the attention they are getting and want to get it for as long as possible.

The guidance they are getting is worrisome. Its not all South FL kids. Burns hasnt been like this and has 3rd Cousin Luke in his ear all the time probably. Kids at Aquinas never pull this crap.

Guilt all they want with 6, its still his choice to go whether he's interested or wants a free trip. He should still be a cane in the end...

he is a miami kid and has been on campus plenty. maybe he wants to come to miami and wants a free trip to LA. I don't blame the kid
ok, how many Miami kids come to miami ultimately without taking an official visit.....?

sorry bro as i don't keep tabs, but the point is that he has been here and seen the goods. if it was a tampa/orlando/etc kid who hasn't been on campus at all or as much it would be a bigger concern.
Fine bro, I don't keep a spread sheet either, but lets just bet that its not that many. Like very few. I'll let some of those with better memories educate us all on the past to address my (somewhat) rhetorical question.

Why use up 1/5 OV's on a school a few miles from home is all i'm sayin.

Well, history shows that 99.9% of our Dade commits take a UM official visit, so Thomas not taking one is a concern.

Is it lost on anyone that USC has to "guilt" a SoFl kid to visit them? That ship is sinking FAST!!!

Give me an example of a local kid ever we have signed that didn't take official visit? It has never happened.

The official visit is the most important part of the process.

Robert Lockhart, DeQuan Ivery, and Jawand Blue. All within the past two years. Just off the top of my head, and confirmed on their rivals pages showing no visit date. Pretty ****ing far from 'It has never happened.'

Negged.

Only Jawand Blue didnt take a visit off of that list. Lockhart and Ivery both made officials

Yah. You're right.

Still, if I can think of a guy who didn't visit, and he signed last year, I'm negging the dude. Pretty confident I could go find some other kids throughout UM history who committed without an OV.

and jawand was a last minute offer when the linebacker from Jax spurned us for FSU.

Thats what makes Duke Johnson so special, he committed relatively early, never wavered and did his part in swaying other guys. I mean, this guy is such a die-hard Cane, I think he would've come to Coral Gables if Coker or Shannon were the coach.

Now, THAT's a die-hard, ride-or-die Cane
