*Update Eddie Nunez Emerges as Strong Candidate for Miami AD Job

How about track record?
What about it? My quick, superficial scan of his resume seems like he's done a fine job at New Mexico. Nothing wrong with promoting him up to a P5 and seeing what he can do. Do I rather have a proven guy like Jurich? Yeah, definitely. But the most important qualities I would look for in an AD (ambition, vision, aggressiveness growth-mindset, resourcefulness, ability to leverage relationships, etc.) are hard to glean from a general resume.

Too many people compare this to hiring a head football coach the résumé qualifications are very different it’s not all about wins and losses I’d look more at his time with LSU

Besides Mr. cafecito and pollo tropical, who are these other names besides Zo and Gino? I mean sh*t...is this the best we can fu**ing do?!?! I get Jurich is out but no one else besides these three???

Its really no offense to Nunez. Im sure he has a great resume and at least has AD experience..I just think people are tired of the "Miami Mafia/UM Cult" hires and wanted some outside blood coming into the fold. Nunez actually could be a great hire but its just more of the same at this point.
If that was case why are people clamoring for Zo or Gino? UM ties with no AD experience

1. Firing Manny would be standard for any new AD coming in for any other university the fact that this is even a point in his favor shows how low we are.

2. Will he make good hire? No way to answer that but if he does hire one of Mario or Lane most of us on this board will have to take the L along with him considering those are the two we want most.

3. I’ve seen this movie before where the AD comes in and makes a big speech at a presser that we will bring Miami back etc. Everyone then creams themselves and acts like the future is bright.

4. You make a good point that none of us know if he’s good or not but the thing is you can’t bring up any points that he would be good either.
That's my only point really. I much rather have a known aggressive and visionary AD. Nunez could be that. He could also fail. But I've seen nothing that suggests he will or will not.

Guy was a D-1 athlete. Blake was a D-1 P*** a** b***! Played for Billy Donovan, knows what it takes to run high level sports from LSU. Only time will tell if this was a good move

So another unknown and hope for the best. In reality he's another puppet who would never be considered to lead a major AD anywhere else.

Don't say you are committed to winning and pull this bull****.

Bottom line is… you don’t need Zo if you hire a competent AD to do the ******* job they are hired to do. Not some guy from a small time college who will be overwhelmed and not be able to handle ****.
Hire a someone with a proven track record to take care of ****. Seems like Miami keeps trying all of these failed experiments and formulas for finding success.

It’s New Mexico… about everyone gets those result

The point is that absolutely nothing about this guy's resume should lead us to believe he'll be a successful AD at Miami or even an upgrade over Blake James. We've been told over the past week that the University wants to do something "meaningful" and that football is the focus of the AD Search. It doesn't matter whether it's New Mexico - hiring a guy that has overseen a program that has gone 17-40 and 3-29 in conference play is not "meaningful" no matter how you slice it.

This program has spent the last two decades cutting corners with coaches and leadership for athletics. It's time for someone transformative.

So 5 minutes ago they were going to announce today and have taken their 74th vote, and now they're still interviewing today. Further confirmation that not one single person posting anywhere knows a single ******* thing right now.
First off, if you’ve sent me a direct message and I haven’t replied I apologize. It’s important to understand a few things regarding the situation we’re in. First and foremost is this is JF’s decision. I’m no fan of many members of the board of trustees and would love to blame them if this goes wrong. However, doing so would not be true to the situation especially since numerous influential members have made their support of him very clear. 90% of what has been put out so far is either short of information or completely incorrect. Barry J stating these guys, and oh by the way some other he just doesn’t conveniently name, shows the guesswork that’s at play. The names I’ve stated have been contacted and spoken to, period.

I’d love to say I know who the AD will be. I have a gut based on what I know but nothing more at this point. JF is playing this very close to the vest, in part because of the BJ situation being put out there a couple months ago. Right now I regret that decision a bit as I believe more valid and detailed information would be accessible at this point. I am willing to say the timeline looks like tomorrow/Thursday based on some schedule shuffling that’s been going on today which is out of the norm.

I can say there’s two competing thoughts at play here for those that count. The first is bringing in an alpha AD. The second, because this decision is largely but not exclusively football driven (contrary to the buffoons at the Herald), is to have someone who is willing to have pieces around him who have the clout to provide advice. Not sham made up positions advice but actual clout within the various entities in the department. I’d say we are 25% on the first and 75% on the second.

Regardless, I will reiterate that Manny is done just like I said a couple months back when the agreement with BJ for a mutual parting of the ways was happening. The difference is Manny HAS NOT been told such yet. For those worries about the recruiting pics and trail just take a look at how Kelly was with a recruit, on ND’s dime and time, when the news leaked in him. It’s inconsequential and part of the game.

And last but not least. Up until two weeks ago I was not bullish on Mario coming here. To say that has changed is a massive understatement. There have been significant talks between some of those that matter and represent the school. I’m not a betting man but will put out there that I’d be floored if it didn’t happen. The only hang up would be money but as I said before that is NOT an issue contrary to the same old bs that gets kicked around. JF understands what the market is and is not wanting to repeat this process again. Call me nuts, and all will not be happy, but we will be light years ahead of where we were here in about a week.

New Mexico went through some Title IX issues and were undergoing an audit when he was hired related to that - he inherited the mess and had nothing to do with it. Men's sports has been dealing with budget cuts and constraints related to that investigation to "level" the women's sports. Their athletic dept was in bad shape to begin with getting bailed out by the state for fired coaching buyouts.

Hard to make any kind of assumption on his ability as an AD from New Mexico.

No way they can conclude he's the best candidate for the job either based on that. He's gonna have to prove his worth if it's him
