Guy was a D-1 athlete. Blake was a D-1 P*** a** b***! Played for Billy Donovan, knows what it takes to run high level sports from LSU. Only time will tell if this was a good move
Never trust a man with two last names
the whole reason we are hiring that caliber of an AD is bc we're dead set on bringing in Zo.
Looks like it.Holy ****....these motherfvckers literally fired James with zero plan on what to do. Still interviewing and one dude with a 2nd interview....that's it thats as far as we have gotten on this process??
No you’re right there, football has always sucked. But basketball hasn’t, and that’s supposed to be his baby child. For what it’s worth, if it’s Nunez, the football program’s woes weren’t exactly his fault. Prior to getting hired as AD their then football coach was extended by the school. Not to mention the best coach they’re getting there is a G5 position coach that’s going to fail 80% of the time.

If he thinks Isla Canarias has the best croquetas in town, he should be immediately disqualified from the AD search. What makes it good?
Has he personally hired any successful coaches? Improved the two big revenue sports in his time there? Headed up an athletic department for a power 5 school?
No.
No.
No.
But at least he knows Isla Canarias has the best croquetas in town.
He went to Miami High not ColumbusNo. He went to CCHS.
What makes this guy a clown?Problem is that Miami is not one HC away from anything substantial. We're a culture shift away. Hiring this ******* clown is more of the same and to expect Kiffin (doubt the BOT would even go for him) or any other HC to change things is setting yourself up for failure.
And thats his fault? Is he coaching? No you’re right there, football has always sucked. But basketball hasn’t, and that’s supposed to be his baby child.
I'd actually much prefer a Gino/Zo tandem than a puppet/Zo situation where we very well could be heading. Both are absolutely not the ideal way to run an entire athletic program but (as you mentioned) at least we'd know we're living and dying based on the abilities of those two dudes alone and not some clowns behind the scenes that either are largely responsible for the current widespread mediocrity (the old money) or want to pull strings with no actual personal responsibility or fear of public blowback (the new money). This is the main reason I would not complain if Zo got the AD job. He may not be qualified like other candidates but I would seriously doubt he would be a Beta AD who would be intimated by some BOT members who are used to manipulate Blake James and would want to do the same with the new hire.
Zo is not my choice for an AD but he will stand his grounds.
I have to presume that he pulled out because Miami wasnt willing to give him the full AD job.
He made the hireAnd thats his fault? Is he coaching?
This the dude who took over new mexico athletics and lead it off a ******* cliff?! Yep, he will take us where we need to go.. Lemme guess he is a great fundraiser?! LMAOOOOOOOOOO
I rather listen to Barry Switzer
The BOT is using the same criteria to hire him as they've used for the past 20 years of catastrophic hires. What makes this guy a clown?
The issue people honestly thought we were gonna pull Rhoades or the dude from Clemson. I’m not a huge fan of Nunes but he’s definitely not a bad hire. The issue is so many people are viewing this through the scope of just a football lens. He has been in a super successful athletic department football wise in LSU."In 2020-21, despite the hardships associated with COVID-19, the Lobos led the Mountain West with six championships, winning in women’s basketball, women’s soccer, women’s cross country, women’s golf, men’s golf and men’s tennis."
I know nothing about the guy, but shrug, that's nothing to sneeze at
You ain't winning in football at New Mexico lol
If you bring Highsmith in with him for football, it just might work fellas. Or it might not, because we're cursed
He is not the name that people on the board want. That is his only downfall. The Al Bundy’s of the world don’t agreeWhat's wrong with Nunez? Just not a big fish/hasn't done anything special or does he have a bad track record?
I'm now regretting saying I thought his resume was "thin". Jesucristo, PLEASE give me Senor Blanco if these are the alternatives!Very true. Given the whole White family support behind the scenes, I'd have been a lot more happy with him.
welcome to miami! thats what the U does all of the time!Looks like it.
Basically Julio Frenk fired Flake in response to getting called out and embarrassed by Herbie.
There was no grand plan or vision… it was 100% a reactionary/PR move.
So 5 minutes ago they were going to announce today and have taken their 74th vote, and now they're still interviewing today. Further confirmation that not one single person posting anywhere knows a single ******* thing right now.
Sounds like no one has any idea about this guy's skills and approach as an AD. I'm not saying he's gonna be a good hire, but there just seems to be a lot of superficial critiques.
I will judge him on the following three issues early on:
(1) Will he recommend firing Manny?
(2) Will he make a good hire? Does he have the intelligence, charisma, skill, vision, and discipline to sell a big fish on the exciting future of our program?
(3) Will he act as an effective advocate for the football department? Will he secure resources from the admin? Will he fundraise? Will he grow our brand? etc.
No criticisms offer any insight into whether he will or will not execute on any of the above three.
