*Update Eddie Nunez Emerges as Strong Candidate for Miami AD Job

Anybody mind telling me what makes him unqualified?

Imagine if the president of Miami were black.

Then fires a white AD, interviews multiple candidates who were unqualified but black, so that AD can decide between keeping a black HC or throwing all of his eggs in another black coaches basket.

Fan base would go nuts. This is only OK in Miami

Here's one question to ask yourself about Nunez or Tony Hernandez to the guys that are giving those type of hires the benefit of the doubt:

Would either of them ever fire (or even have the power to fire) our baseball coach without the explicit blessing of a few specific boosters?

If the answer is "no" or "I dunno" then we're hiring a puppet that is going to be limited to mayyyybe fiddling with hoops and fundraising and trying to bring a women's cross country team here.
This is the main reason I would not complain if Zo got the AD job. He may not be qualified like other candidates but I would seriously doubt he would be a Beta AD who would be intimated by some BOT members who are used to manipulate Blake James and would want to do the same with the new hire.

Zo is not my choice for an AD but knowing the political BS that infected the department for years we need someone with spine. Probably that's why they don't want Jurich.

These small-minded weirdos who can't think outside the tiny bubble of Dade County could learn a thing or two from LSU and USC. Get the best people.

Lincoln Riley is a hick from Texas. Probably never set foot in a building with more than 3 stories. Hired by their AD who had zero ties to USC either and came from Cincinnati. Do they "need to understand LA culture?" No, ya jackazz.

LSU-- yes their AD hire had ties to their school... but he also came from aTm at his last stop, where he landed a whale of a steal in Jimbo. And then this:

Wake up, ya f'ng dingbats. There's a pretty big world of athletics outside the city limits of Miami.
Speaking of dingbats…

Hiring someone who “knows UM and Miami’s unique dynamics” is overrated and leads to hiring subpar candidates such Eddie Nunez.

A proven winner such as Jurich knows how to learn the politics/dynamics at a new job quickly and newsflash… Miami isn’t THAT much different than other major collegiate athletic departments. Every athletic department has their own unique challenges.

Other than Gino & Zo, why is it this guy's name is the only one ever mentioned in the mainstream Miami media... seems off. He the only guy we're interviewing? Probably blind hope me reading into it too much.
Maybe he's the only one getting a second interview.

There was a lot of talk about how impressive Highsmith was in his interview last week. Maybe getting someone who would be able to let Highsmith handle all of football is their priority. If that's the case, Nunez kinda makes sense.

Genuine shivers going down my spine at the thought of who this bozo and our bozo BOT hire once Mario passes on us.

What makes his resume ****? I would say the school he works at barely cares about athletics but why is his resume **** otherwise?

What makes it good?

Has he personally hired any successful coaches? Improved the two big revenue sports in his time there? Headed up an athletic department for a power 5 school?

No.
No.
No.

But at least he knows Isla Canarias has the best croquetas in town.

What's wrong with Nunez is that the people who are considering hiring him seem to have his top attribute as "knows the city and the culture."

Cool. Big whoop. Give Tom Jurich a map and let him watch a couple Pitbull videos.

The main point is, when you've been mostly a joke in sports for nearly two decades, and your president publicly touts his renewed efforts to become a serious school athletically (including a huge investment of funds to make big-time hires) well, you're not expecting the AD from New Mexico with a shlt resume to be the first shoe to drop in this purported serious makeover of Miami athletics.

Let's look one more time at USCs AD hire to make up for the Lynn Swann debacle. Mike Bohn. 35 years of AD experience. As Cincy AD, he hired a failed Ohio St HC named Luke Fickell to be Cincy HC. Now pulled Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma. And Miami's answer to Mike Bohn is a nobody from New Mexico community college.

Sounds like no one has any idea about this guy's skills and approach as an AD. I'm not saying he's gonna be a good hire, but there just seems to be a lot of superficial critiques.

I will judge him on the following three issues early on:
(1) Will he recommend firing Manny?
(2) Will he make a good hire? Does he have the intelligence, charisma, skill, vision, and discipline to sell a big fish on the exciting future of our program?
(3) Will he act as an effective advocate for the football department? Will he secure resources from the admin? Will he fundraise? Will he grow our brand? etc.

No criticisms offer any insight into whether he will or will not execute on any of the above three.
Will he recommend firing dimare and larranga as well. Will he demand that we hire a grade a coach with unlimited resources to support said coach. If the answer is yes:

Brian White had an interview like weeks ago. Surprised to see his name being dropped out.
