Tulane QB Darian Mensah enters the Portal

Ward played in pac 12 prior to coming here. We saw him against p5 comp every week.

We did have talks with Arch last year btw.
I KNOWWWWWWWW.. I am talking about many post that complain of Ward for one year but also being scared to grab a guy when he is at lower levels.. You cant have it both ways but no biggie.. just get your #1 guy and lock it in hopefully..

This portal season will test the collective ability to retain the core of this roster and acquire the necessary pieces. Proof of concept on how well funded Miami NIL is.

Everyone major program is gearing up with a ton of them needing a quarterback.

Who is that guy then ? Having the protection will make a big difference for any qb we bring in. And for that matter, is Riley Leonard coming back for them or is he done ?
Pretty sure Riley was a 1 and done. Looking at their roster seems like they will be in the portal for a QB again. Not much on their roster behind Riley. Seems like they lose a lot from this year’s team.

So is this your guy?
I like him. I like Mateer too. Even Arnold has unreal talent and would be successful here. He was in an absolute horrid situation at OU. Walk on’s all over the wr core and an awful ol. Kinda like Nix at Auburn. I was cool with any of these guys with our OL, talent with Dawson . Situation and surroundings at qb is a huge piece of the pie. I’d prefer to have a multi year guy though.

Me not reading into this too much

I don't know, honestly. The coaches did a lot to protect him at Tulane. He was good, don't get me wrong, but he was in a run first offense that had a 1,400 yard RB. Tulane ran for over 200 yards a game. He wasn't asked to throw it 30+ times a game, and rarely did. Tulane had very good WRs in Mario Williams and Yulkeith Brown too, which helped him.

All that to say, I don't know how he'd look in Dawson's offense. Maybe he'd be fine. He is talented, obviously, but the coaches protected him this year for a reason. Part of it was he was a freshman, but part of it was they didn't think he could go out and win games on his own.

Now, with all of that said, I'd take him over Jackson Arnold in a heartbeat. Arnold can barely complete a forward pass.
Thanks for the intel. I guess for me is looking at where he’s at and inserting him into our offense and supporting cast especially with a year under his belt. I watch a lot of football, if it’s on I’m watching and stubbled on a Tulane game early in the season and began tuning in every week thereafter. I like the kid a lot.

Sorry, looks to my untrained eyes that it’s this dude over Arnold and Mateer.

Assuming Mario is willing to pay up again sounds like we will have options.

We shouldn't wait (too long) on Mateer imo. Get one of Mensah or Arnold locked in, and building for next season ASAP
