The Truth about the Defense - For those who say it's talent

Miami gave up 413 yards to Florida.

Florida's offense was on the field for 38:20

Miami's offense was on the field for 21:40

Just like FSU, Miami's defense was on the field for 2/3 of the game while the offense was on the bench.

How did UM's offense do at converting 3rd downs against uf.ag and fsu?

Against FSU, Miami's offense was **** near 50% until the game was already over in the 4th.

They had a real good game converting.... the defense was the issue.

against Florida, Miami was terrible, but the game plan changed.

What are BULL SHlT Statistics for 200?

Drive 1 Miami (FL) at 9:16 (1st Q)

Golden's record through 32 games: 20-12

Randy's record through 32 games: 17-15

How much longer until we can expect to start seeing a big difference on the field?

So Golden's record is ALREADY better than Shannon's, despite having taken over from the WORST HC Miami has had in almost a half century, and having had to recruit under the cloud of a huge NCAA investigation where the media was calling for us to get the DEATH PENALTY.

I mean we are sitting at 7-1, ranked in the top 20, with a **** good shot at winning the Coastal and going to the ACCCG for the FIRST TIME, and people are b*tching because we lost to one of the top 2 teams in the country, with one of the top offenses in the country, in THEIR house.

These dopes have been sitting around waiting all year for us to finally lose, so they could start this sht and feel comfortable that they'd get enough support for it from the other dopes who have been biding their time waiting for us to lose. That 7-0 start was misery for a great deal of the UM message board idiot brigade.

Oh NO doubt. I lulz'd when I came on here Sat night and Sunday and saw all the porsters coming out of the woodwerks. Guys who havent said sh8t all year, or hadnt even registered, felt the need to come in here and start trashing the staff as usual because we lost a game.

It's a scheme issue

I was a D'onofrio supporter but i see the big picture now....

you cant have a DC who strongly believes that "yards allowed" doesnt matter only scoring defense and expect to ever have an "elite" defense.

I wouldnt mind if D'onofrio left for a HC job after this season.

Exactly. This is what people keep missing. Going into the FSU game, most believed to win the game we needed to control the clock and run the ball. Why, because they have more talent than we do at the moment. To shorten the game and control the clock is universally recognized as the way to beat a superior team talent wise. Along with a few breaks and turnovers.

Well this same game plan is what less talented teams use against us. Some do it with the run, others with the short passing game. But both can be VERY effective against our style of bend don't break defense. We are doing EXACTLY what they want us to do. Were playing right into their hands.

That is the reason we play these close games until late in the 4th with NC, Wake, GT...etc. That and our own stupid turnovers. These teams are content to take 5 yards, 8 yards, 3 yards. Why, because it chews up clock and keeps OUR explosive offense on the sideline. We allow them to stay close, instead of attacking and pressing the issue. We should make their inferior athletes make plays against our superior ones.

But remember yards don't matter! lol Our offense is sitting on the sideline for 5 to 8 minutes at a time. No wonder they are cold as **** and go three and out. Or defensive philosophy never allows them to get in a rhythm and get a feel for what the opposing defense is trying to do.

And before I get the talent argument. Even with RS sleeping at the wheel in 2009, 2010 and 2011, we still have better players than every team on our schedule other that FSU. FL only has more talent than us on the defensive side of the ball.

And you really believe our d talent is better than VT, who I believe is in the top 5 defensively. 31>5?

Guys are delusional. Let them be. They want to talk about talent like talent lives in a vacuum. Look at a guy like Brandon McGee. He was "talented" from the day he set foot on campus. He wasn't a good football player until 4 years later. This talent fantasy world stuff is living in the past. How talented is our starting D? Go down the list:

1. Renfrow--cast off from a sht team UVA. Journeyman player at his best.
2. Chick--good quality player without much physical talent. A try-hard guy.
3. Pierre-a 2 star Temple level talent who nobody wanted.
4. Shayon--another try-hard guy playing on duct taped knees with very limited athletic ability
5. Cornileus--weak player with no explosive athletic talent.
6. Gaines--2 star player who no one wanted. Another try-hard guy with a great attitude and very limited ability.
7. Perryman--legit player. Could play on and excel on any team in the country.
8. AJ--would be a backup on an FCS team. Enough said.
9. Jenkins--legit player coming into his own as a sophomore. Will only get better.
10. Tracy--legit player. Future star.
11. Gunter--legit player. Limited physically, but makes up for it with smarts and football savvy.

Where is all this talent everyone is crowing about?

I am far from a mope or a fire this coach and that coach guy. Anyone who doesn't see that his approach is bend but don't break, is blind.

And I believe it will be successful when we get the right players. But that approach will keep us in close games with teams with less talent.

Go look at VT's 2 deep and see what you find.

How many years have they had a top defense? How many times have they finished in the top 10 in any recruiting rankings?

Even when we had top talent all over the place, VT's D was right there with UM's under Foster.

Foster's coaching and aggressive scheme make his 2 and 3 star kids play like demons.

I warn you not to argue, he thinks Morris is playing well in ACC play. He thinks our defense is mostly to blame.

lol look how *** you sound... "I warned u not argue" Chise is a grown man making a point, let it go.

"he thinks" no I never said Morris was playing "well" in ACC play he threw 4 INTS against UNC chill the *** out.... the point is the defense is mostly to blame.

I already gave u the same numbers Miami's offense was 3 for 7 going into the 2nd half on 3rd downs. and 1 for 1 on 4th downs.

That's 4 for 8 or 50% on conversions going into the 3rd quarter....

if we need a more accurate break down of the 2nd half:

the 3rd quarter, 1st drive Morris was sack by a blitz on 3rd down that effects 3rd down conversion even though the offense didnt get a chance to make a play b/c Wheeler whiffed on a blitz pick up.

After the punt, Miami's defense gave up 1 TD after the other.

the 3rd down conversion got skewed after the game was already over and the offense was just trying to make somthing happen out of nothing.... the offense had one of its best performances of the season on 3rd downs against an elite defense.

Sorry but the blame goes 90% to the defense for the loss and the way we lost.

And you claim not to have an agenda??? LOL Maybe if Al didn't have to trot out the regurgitated remains of Randy's stellar roster management strategy over the last 32 games his record would be a little better. What a dumbarse post.

Zone, you're giving the offense way too much credit, IMO. Both sides of the ball, and throw in special teams, have plenty of blame to share.

you're right, as far as this season goes the offense and the defense have had problems.... at times the offense was definitely more to blame for the team's inconsistencies but also i feel at times those struggles have been greatly over blown.

Regardless i just think when it comes to the FSU game, i just think the defense definitely holds the lion share of the blame and during ACC play the defense has slipped up big time.

I never meant to infer that you were a mope. You're a good dude.

Vag Tech has had some down years here and there when there talent is down. They've struggled badly at times when, for instance, their secondary isn't up to par and they can't play that tight coverage that Pud prefers.

Here are a couple other points. First, Flub and Pud have been there forever and have a tried and true system in place. They recruit to their system, and sometimes they strike gold. It's a perenial 10 win program. You're not talking about a pile of sht program.

That VT defense, as it stands right now, is more talented than ours. Period. We can pretend it isn't or that it shouldn't be because we're UM and they're VT. But reality is that The Don took over a total piece of sht program from the worst corch in UM history. He buried this program, and on top of that, The Don has been saddled with the ncaa cloud THE ENTIRE TIME he's been here. The whole **** time. Guys who poo poo that simply have an agenda because it's been a monster he's had to fight every day in recruiting.

Why can't it be both?

Scheme and talent?

I am more concerned with our fan base not complaining about the offense. This is what amazes me.

To the board (not the OP),

People want to know why I think posters have agendas. BECAUSE THEY ONLY BlTCH ABOUT THE DEFENSE. The offense is pretty inconsistent out there. Our offense has 10 ****lNG turnovers in ACC play. Is everyone cool with this?
This is a joke right? Or you joined like 5 minutes ago because clearly you have missed all the threads that turn into attacks against Steve mo and j coley

I agree jimmy Gaines is not as good as they say and Cornelius and highsmith suck. We need to get better at safety also. We need a ball hawking stud. I like bush and Jenkins but I feel as if they are both free safeties

You guys are failing to see offense recruiting has no problem. We have 1 good hs dt prospect and hurlie bust his *** to get him. Auburn has been horrible since cam, they hired a good dc and d-line coach and they immediately landed a 5 star dt and a top juco dt. Luke helped miami get burns, and jethro has not landed 1 good d-lineman. How many kids say they want to play for d'onofrio or they like his defense? Better yet who the **** has he recruited?

I don't like donofrio but last game showed me they know what they are doing. They had a solid game plan against FSU. At some point your players get outmatched by superior talent. We were in good position on defense last game but I feared the offense couldn't keep up. We simply couldn't get the off the field on 3rd down

I agree i think it was a solid game plan for fsu. But vs wake let tracy get up in camparano face the whole game, vs unc even golden said he was suprised because they had a plan for ebron and had emphasized it.That is what i'm saying why vs lesser talent or equal he use different stuff? I have a feeling vt with that horrible offense that can't pass or run will have 400 yards. Vt qb and wr suck let the boys lock them up.

Lets call a spade a spade. Safety is a big weakness on this team. No ballhawks.
