The Truth about the Defense - For those who say it's talent

Florida scored 16 points, 6 after a blocked punt gave them the ball on our 10, and 7 after the game was all but out of reach. They could have racked up 19,387 yards for all I care.

Miami gave up 413 yards to Florida.

Florida's offense was on the field for 38:20

Miami's offense was on the field for 21:40

Just like FSU, Miami's defense was on the field for 2/3 of the game while the offense was on the bench.

Yea our bunch of jags dline allowed Uf to play ball control and run the clock, credit to the staff for rotating and coaching them up to win that game.

Miami's talent on defense went from 116 in the country last year to in the 30s this year.

Miami has the talent to not let every team run 400-500 yards on you and Miami has the talent to not be one of the worst teams in the BCS when it comes to 3rd down defense.

That talent is a year older, which has to help.

Only 4 of the teams we've played got to 400+ yards on us (and GT and UF.ag only barely). Only UNC and F$U got to 500. Only Wake and F$U did better than 40% on third downs.

Mopey fuggin trolls like Rok would still find something to complain about if this team was #1 in every poll and statistical category.

When is the acceptable time frame when fans can start to question the coaching ability of Al and his staff? I just want to be clear so I, and others, don't ruffle the feathers of the football scientists on the board.

Negative. We didn't move up 80 something spots because of new talent. We added Renfrow & Burns.. That's it. Sure AQM/Figs/Kamalu look the part but from a production standpoint, they haven't added much.. Meanwhile, we lost Brandon McGee, Eddie Johnson, Gionni Paul, Thomas Finnie, Gabe Terry, Vaughn Telemaque, etc.. There is no way possible to say we are more talented. We moved up because of physical maturity (S&C gains), understanding the defense, less blown assignments, etc.

Its common sense gthat we are 7 and 1 and lost to a more talented team, what did people expect though really? Im still trying to figure this **** out like I think some of u guys r joking that r complaining bout the coaches.

We moved up 100 spots because of coaching a AG recruits r a year older thats it wtf. Tyriq was not this good last year and AQM is good now imagine next year. So we move up 100 spots is talent but we lose to a more talented team its coaching. seems legit

Im pretty sure gt and unc r saying fire there coach after UM losses. They know we got more talent, well the sane fans.

25 of the 33 players who comprise the 3-deep depth chart are guys who have been selected by Al Golden to represent the University of Miami football team.

The only eight players who are not "Golden guys":

Green
Robinson
Porter
Gaines
Cornelius
Cain
Rodgers
Highsmith

Dorito. Must. Go.

I don't understand the premise of this post.

Recruit better players.

Perryman
McCord
Jenkins
Bush
Howard
Crawford
AQM
Burns

Need more of these guys.

Jelani
Kamalu
Moore
King
Hoilett
Blue
Grace
Carter
Dortch
Hope
Elder

Not seeing enough production out of them.

probably because their defense ate our offense alive. your boy stemo did his houdini act after completing 8 of his 12 completions in the first quarter.

It's a scheme issue

I was a D'onofrio supporter but i see the big picture now....

you cant have a DC who strongly believes that "yards allowed" doesnt matter only scoring defense and expect to ever have an "elite" defense.

I wouldnt mind if D'onofrio left for a HC job after this season.

Exactly. This is what people keep missing. Going into the FSU game, most believed to win the game we needed to control the clock and run the ball. Why, because they have more talent than we do at the moment. To shorten the game and control the clock is universally recognized as the way to beat a superior team talent wise. Along with a few breaks and turnovers.

Well this same game plan is what less talented teams use against us. Some do it with the run, others with the short passing game. But both can be VERY effective against our style of bend don't break defense. We are doing EXACTLY what they want us to do. Were playing right into their hands.

That is the reason we play these close games until late in the 4th with NC, Wake, GT...etc. That and our own stupid turnovers. These teams are content to take 5 yards, 8 yards, 3 yards. Why, because it chews up clock and keeps OUR explosive offense on the sideline. We allow them to stay close, instead of attacking and pressing the issue. We should make their inferior athletes make plays against our superior ones.

But remember yards don't matter! lol Our offense is sitting on the sideline for 5 to 8 minutes at a time. No wonder they are cold as **** and go three and out. Or defensive philosophy never allows them to get in a rhythm and get a feel for what the opposing defense is trying to do.

And before I get the talent argument. Even with RS sleeping at the wheel in 2009, 2010 and 2011, we still have better players than every team on our schedule other than FSU. FL only has more talent than us on the defensive side of the ball.

Miami has talent on the roster but not elite talent and the young players are still developing. Finally Golden and company will be able to recruit without the NCAA shackles anymore. More time is needed to see the results of recruiting and development come to fruition. Trust the Process and have some patience, the CANES will continue to rise to the top.

After year 10 of this 15 year rebuilding job.

Another thread advertising to be telling us the "truth" about the defense. Yet once again the OP provides no contextual analysis.
OP says half of 3 deep are Golden's guys. But fails to state that half of these are frosh or soph.

then someone throws out VaTech without doing any research whatsoever. The VaTech doesn't get top recruits thing is not accurate. The Beltway produces it's fair share of D1 talent. Not to mention that none our SR would make VaTech 2 deep. Not mention they are playing 1-2 underclassmen more than 10 snaps a game.

you wanted an aggressive blitzing defense we did that. got burned for screen LB doesn't cover the RB
You wanted man coverage we mixed that in to. But eventually what the DC as well as most level headed fans already knew would happen did happen, our LB toasted by the TE.

And you really believe our d talent is better than VT, who I believe is in the top 5 defensively. 31>5?

Dumbest post of the year. We missed 6 tackles on 3rd down against Wake Forrest on the opening drive. All of which would have forced a punt.

Now that the NCAA mess is finally over & he has an average roster of talent, I'll consider next year to be year 1 of a 4 year window.. despite the fact that he still has limited scholarships to recruit with. JMO
