The same finish

Our dline needs to be revamped. Having these big edge guys is not cutting it. We need more speed/athletic types off the edge. Booker Pickett is a guy who should have played alot more

Our pass rush has been a massive disappointment, on par with the dbs who have disappointed the most this year. Just hurts more due to having legit talent on the dline

Agreed Bain should be DT and we need length and speed on the edge not tweeter DE/DTs

Guys, Iowa State would simply add a gap on the LOS and our LB's looked like they had seen a Martian.

This game pulled back the veil for me. How we could have a team so unprepared they didn't know how to spill and fill an extra gap at this point was just beyond comprehension.

This isn't even commenting on what happened to our defender when the #1 WR would motion into a stack or bunch. Defenders looked like windmills trying to point and figure out what to do.

That is install stuff. Week three of camp stuff. When you're walking through your coverage concepts and calls you're working through that. Going into a game you should already have that memorized where you're going if each receiver motions.

Allowing that to happen is 90% on coaching for not having them prepared and 10% on players for not caring enough to be prepared. Personally, if I were actually good enough to have been a player at Miami, I would be embarrassed to allow myself to be so unprepared despite what the coaches are doing or not doing.

Speaking of coaching, I have mentioned they get to see every practice rep. They get to see scrimmages for players who don't get into games (surely we scrimmage the redshirts etc. on Sunday or sometime). To see all of that and to decide not to throw major dollars at Miller Moss, or lots of other QB's not named John Mateer, is frightening.

Maybe Emory is better in practice (support has told me he's really good), but that veil has been pulled off.

To me, with the benefit of free agency and lots of dollars in a Collective, you cannot be a serious program and ever be in a position that Emory Williams takes another real snap here. It's not personal. Just like any serious program would never allow Lance Guidry to coach another snap at Miami. Both might go on to true success elsewhere, but it didn't work out here and Mario's job is to make the hard decisions. The adult decisions from here.

Let's see it, Mario.

Spot on post Lance.

It still blows my mind that we had guys on here saying the defense was awful in 2024 exclusively because of talent.

I don’t know how Mario and a slew of staffers went through a full season watching the level of malpractice from Guidry

So we are basically saying that, after mocking the **** out of FSU this year, we could have a similar outcome next year. That’s not stability nor sustainability.

So long for that program trajectory in the State of Florida Mario talked about a couple of months ago.

We all suck but at least they won the ACC.
They have been trying to follow the fsu trajectory all along. They even started out with that garbage *** Bobby Bowden slogan about losing big before winning big. Went from mocking fsu about portal usage to having the portal as our only hope. We couldnt even win this garbage *** conference though.

Thanks for writing this @DMoney. A fair and objective perspective. When you talk about building a program, it has to have an identity (at least a positive one). Which makes us closer to FSU than even a Clemson
At this point, I just ask @DMoney to be honest with us. And he was much more honest this time around. We don't need sunshine pumping around here. We lost 3 of the last 4 games and are a shell of our former selves from the FL game. I am beyond frustrated at this point; I am ****ed at the product I see put on the field by Mario. Other than a few guys on offense, our players regressed as the season moved along. I spent a lot of my money to attend games at FL and at GT this year. I don't make a ton of money as is, but last night broke me. I'm done investing in Canes Connection and traveling to games if this is the crap we put on the field. Love my Cane brothers. Love D&. Appreciate all that you do, my friend!

I never agreed with 3 inside , that was an absolute idiotic move. He’s too light in the *** for early downs inside. The DL was so shockingly bad , I’d never expected what I saw this year.
You think Mesidor comes back for one more year assuming they let him play he's proper position? Can't imagine he'd be drafted high but I def wouldn't mind having him back at DE

We've finished the season the same way for 20 years. Our coaches change, but this part stays the same. Another year of blowing it in November and losing December bowl games. Some thoughts from Orlando:

- Cam Ward is a legend in my book. He spotted us 31 points in a half and we still couldn't win. It was symbolic of the whole season, really.

- On Mario, my realistic expectations were a repeat of Oregon- the good and the bad. We're currently running behind that pace. We still haven't made a conference title, and we just missed a golden opportunity with an elite quarterback. Year 4 is critical and there is a ton of work that needs to be done.

- We have some smart players, but we aren't a smart team. One simple example- we're 121st in penalty yards. Iowa State is 1st.

- Not much more to say about the defense. In person, it's jarring how frantic we look pre-snap. This is Game 13. The unit is full of veterans - fourth, fifth and sixth-year players. Something isn't connecting. I'd be shocked if there aren't significant changes on that side of the ball.

- We threw for 1.9 yards per attempt in the second half. This is why I've pushed so hard for a Portal QB. My concern with Emory Williams dating back to high school is athleticism. Nothing looks fluid and easy. I continue to expect us to add a Portal QB and fast-track Luke Nickel.

- Damien Martinez is a horse. Over 1,000 yards, 10 TDs, 6+ yards per carry. It feels like forever ago when people were saying he was the 3rd best back on the team. Sometimes it's important to trust track record.

- It's hard to lose when you run for over 300 yards as a team. The running game is the one area where I feel the floor has been raised significantly.

- We should be further along at linebacker after three years. That group has been average. Forget the elite guys like Vilma and DJ - a Quarterman/Pickney duo would improve our defense significantly. It's worth investing Portal money to land an impactful player here.

- JoJo Trader and Elija Lofton gave us a glimpse of what they've been doing on Greentree. I hope both are featured players in 2025. We're losing a lot of production, but a good chunk of that production can be replaced from within.

- We've been decimated by injury at corner and we were already bad there. OJ Frederique looked OK on the sideline, but when he went left the game we were forced to play Markeith Williams on an island. It's hard to oversign there- we need a lot of help.

- The silver lining for me is that there were no injuries. Thank you to all the players who have put their bodies on the line for the Canes.

Cam didn't spot the 'Canes 31 Points, ISU was in the lead most of the 1st half:

"spots; spotted; spotting; to give (an opponent) a specified advantage at the beginning of a race, game, etc., in order to make a competition more even
  • They spotted us five points, and we still lost.
  • (golf) He spotted him two strokes a hole. (Brittanica Dictionary)

care to provide evidence of November games below 40 bc I have at least the Penn State playoff game below 40.
Cool so you admit you have no idea WTF you are talking about.

B10 regular season is over the end of November and almost all games are during the day. The game temperatures are virtually all above 40 degrees.

This School, the Athletic Department, Boosters, and everything that comes with it is just not serious about football like the fan base is. This University and it's athletic programs will have the stench of Shalala on it for years to come.

I have said before that I will hold out judgement for Mario until next year. After that, if what I think will happen, I will temper my expectations about Hurricane football. You guys keep talking about scheme and coaches. This is a champion's mentality vs a mid mentality.

We are victims of the enormous amount of success we had for three decades. No one really wants to work to get back to that because they think putting the helmet with the U on it automatically makes you a champion. Michael Irvin said it best, it doesn't.

It's not the players. It's the money people that hire these awful coaches because the coaches are at a discount or because they are "Miami" guys. I am not sure if you have looked at "Miami" guys lately. Our Pro and College teams are driven by them. Oh, both pro and college are awful.

I will judge the next QB unfairly because of how good Cam was. But I will also know that Miami is just Miami. It's MID now. Pro and College. We have a Head Football coach for the Dolphins that wears Capri pants on the sideline. We have a Head Coach for the Hurricanes that talks about "Standards" and "Process".

This is not a player thing. You either want to win or you don't. That starts at the top.

We are improving on multiple fronts under Cristobal but as you said, critical season in year 4. I’m okay with this year(which should have been more) but the defense has serious issues that needs to be addressed starting with Guidry who continues to have his unit look unprepared every week.

Outside of Cam's miracles, what was Dawson's achievement??? Nothing! Same fraud as last season.... hopefully he cashes in and moves on.

It’s a nice thought but I don’t think Bain can bulk up and be an effective DT. He’s not big enough the way he carries weight right now, he needs to lose weight not gain it
I think your right .. his speed was his biggest asset .. he looked less quick this season ..

**** if we'd made the playoffs and lost first round it would be the same **** being said
We had a unicorn at QB and finished the same way we do every year. It’s not getting better than this, MC is a caveman who is incapable of taking the team to next level it’s obvious
