The running game

let’s hear about a new S&C staff. Also a new STC.

Defense isn’t the only thing needed

Lofton is not as good of a natural runner as Martinez.

Martinez is RUNNINGBACK

Lofton is a TE, that can maybe get a handful of carries in certain situations.

We wouldn't even have to consider putting a TE at RB if we just went ahead & brought in another RB... Crazy idea I know.

I agree don’t move him but use him creatively to exploit his talents running and receiving.

His versatility allows you to run plays from 11 or 20 personnel. Put in another tight end you can run 12 or 21. He can put defenses in conflict and create mismatches. You pull stuff out the bag the defense hasn’t seen.

I got love for Cam and that will never waver.

But would we have been better off this year with a Riley Leonard type QB? A bolstered run game?

It's the reason I wanted Castellanos
😭

Neg nicely, man!
Please, explain. I am having so much trouble watching people come up with how our team would have been better mentioning changes to the offense without ever thinking of the defense.

How in the ever living **** would we have been better off with a vastly inferior QB?

I'll give you our record with a Riley Leonard type QB. 7-6 at best with a high probability of it being even worse. Castellanos we would've been even worse. We would've been lucky to win 5 games with him.

Now if by "this year" you mean 2025 instead of 2024, ignore my post. Castellanos is definitely not the answer though.

My thought is that we can add another cheap body at TE (McCormick replacement) and then a moderately-priced TE with some receiving chops like Bauman from Tulane. That frees up Lofton to play RB if there are injuries.

Hopefully, Schott is able to give us some reps early like Lofton did.
Let's not bring in another JAG TE and play Lofton at RB, please. We still routinely produce quality TEs so let's let Lofton be that.

I would not mind him flexing everywhere (ala Tyler Warden) but to move him to a RB and expect him to replace Martinez's production while throwing another Cam McComick out there would be foolish.

Bro - I was at the closed scrimmage. Lofton looked amazing at RB. Although after seeing our D this year I'm not sure. He was patient and read his blocks well - and also had great contact balance. He looked like the real deal to me.
Yeah, I'm sure he looked like Barry Sanders at RB against our defense. However, against our defense you may as well have been watching him play against Bethune Cookman. It tells you absolutely nothing about how "good" of an RB he actually is.

Let's stop taking athletes that specialize in one area to try to cover up our recruiting misses in other places. It makes the overall team worse and affects that player's ability to get to develop and play at the next level.

The story for me from the College Football Playoff is the importance of the running game. It's the same story we've seen the past 20 Januarys with teams like Alabama, Georgia and Michigan.

The best running team (Notre Dame) and the two best running back tandems (Ohio State and Penn State) are in the Final Four. The two best individual running backs (Jeanty and Skattebo) were in the playoff. Texas beat Clemson by running and then almost got upset when Arizona State outran them.

The frustrating thing is that Miami can run with all of these guys AND pass at a superior level. This season will hurt for a while.

Ooooooor, it’s a story about how the top 4 seeds had too much time off & the teams that were game ready dominated.

Lofton played RB in high school, played RB in spring, and is 6'1, 240 pounds.

Please explain why it's a stretch to play him at RB. Going strictly by his dimensions, it's more of a stretch to play him at TE.

He can do it all, but I think the backfield is his most natural long-term home and makes him even more of a mismatch in the passing game.

Yall say that now...

Going into the season with just 4 RB's, with one of them likely not even being P4 caliber is unwise.

Our QB play will be significantly down next year & we'll have no choice but to run the ball a lot more. Defenses are going to see on film that they won't have to respect/fear the Passing game in the same way they did with Cam at the helm. You're chancing/risking a disastrous scenario trying to put it all on 2-backs & an unproven TF with an increased workload.

Not to mention, we're losing 3 TE's all who could block very well & a Bookend LT in Rivers.

You're Dancing with the Devil with this 3 RB idea...

But whatevs, yall have been warned

There’s zero chance of this happening. Worry not my friend. Adults are coming to right the ship

Season will hurt in perpetuity until the next wazzu qb that believes in a post testosterone producing Cuban over a psychopathic ******* defensive coordinator arrives.

My point is we should have ran more. Like a whole ahzzload more!

Cam or not, we should have ran more. More ball control would have kept Guidry's defense off the field for longer. It's one of the most winningest recipes in football; Good running, hard D!

Miami needs another RB from the portal.

Who knows how Lyle's play goes from adding 100+ carries over the course of the season and not playing vs 2nd stringers in blowout games.
Fletcher really should be getting less carries next year if hes going to constantly fumble.
The staff is really going to trust Pringle enough in situations to come in and take 50-75 carries as a 175 lb true freshman??
Will they get anything out of CWH?

Thats not counting injuries, which Miami was lucky to avoid last year. Giving Lofton carries only takes him away from his natural position and like others have said, Fletcher kind of makes him redundent.

Offense is definitely coming back down to earth in either scenario.
