Look, I know you are a good guy, much better than these mopey porsters who keep scaring the natives with chants of "Arroyo"...

But a couple of things.

First, regardless of knowing Gattis was out the door, the process of restarting talks with Candle has been a 2-week courtship, not a 2-month. And, yes, we can debate the wisdom of pursuing "the girl who got away" so ardently one year later, but he is clearly Mario's first choice and has not yet said no. I think the "forever" last year was real, and people are commingling the "forever" of firing Gattis with a misleading "forever" on the hiring side.

Second, I agree, if we don't get a resolution on Candle quickly (again, setting aside anyone's feelings on whether Candle should or should not be the top choice), then we need to pivot to one of the other names under consideration.

Third, I do not look at the Steele situation as indicative of "Mario". The demanding style that Mario employs is comparable to what Saban employs. So it's not like Stele left to take a job with softy Manny up at Ped State. Steele just has a long-standing relationship with Saban, compared to two years with Mario (one as a co-worker at Alabama, one as a DC at Miami).

Let's try analyzing this in a slightly different way. Guys that Mario has wanted to hire within the last 360 to 400 days have been mostly good (Gattis was a disaster of Biblical proportions, and Addae needs to move on as soon as possible): Georgia has hired away one of our coaches, Alabama has hired away two or three of our coaches, and several of Mario's targets have gotten raises and/or promotions from their employers in order to stay.

But I do agree with the process taking longer than the processes of others. And, yes, it has not resulted in ON-FIELD success yet. But guys like Steele and Strong (and to a lesser extent T-Rob and C-Mac) are coaches who are of a quality that is greater than what Miami has had over the past 20 years. Honestly, since mid-Coker-era, how many of our coordinators or position coaches were hired away by programs better than ours?

I'm in agreement with you at the 60-70 percent level. I'm not happy with the pace, but I don't think my feelings will change Mario's personality. I do think that Mario identifies good coaches, and he may not land them all (even King Saban seems to have encountered some struggles in that area this off-season). I'm willing to judge Mario on how well he responds to his Year 1 setbacks.
Most realistic, common sense posts of this entire thread/s. I’ve said many times, the vast majority of us have no clue as to what’s going on behind closed doors. It’s been mentioned several times that Mario is keeping everything on lock down and close to the vest.

From the outside, it’s not a good look that Mario seems to be dragging his feet. There very well may be things that have to be resolved before he can make a move.

That being said, time is certainly of the essence at this point. Spring practice starts in less than 4 weeks and the staff needs to be in place to get things rolling. Hopefully, we’ll hear something in short order.

Mario’s theme song these days!

… I don't know where I'm going
But I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises in songs of yesterday
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time
Here I go again, here I go again

… Though I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on
'Cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

… Here I go again on my own
Going down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time

I appreciate taking your time and making the right decision, especially hiring such a pivotal position.

However, this is not a cfo or vp of sales job that could have 1,000 or more qualified candidates. This is a job with MAYBE 50 qualified people in the WORLD!! And out of those 50 at least 25 are an instant cross off due to current employment, location or wrong personality. So that leave MAXIMUM 25 people. Even at 1 per day (which is ridiculous in itself) that is less than a month. Then cut it down to 5??? Bring each in for a 2 day interview. That is another 10 days. Add in 5 days off. That is 40 days total! Maybe another 4 days of negotiations? 44 days and that is if you really need 5 people to have 2 day interviews and they actually want to come.

This process is flawed beyond reasonable expectations. When you break it down it is actually sickening

So sad. Guy would’ve killed it here. Are you saying he’s gone somewhere else at this point? Or change to circle back?
Don't know what's going on. Seems like either nobody wants to coach under him...or they didn't fit his criteria. Nice time for this BS to happen, one month from Spring Practice...
