Yeah. I only like statistics that factor in just how insanely bad the MAC defenses are. Like bottom 100 level defenses.

Just as I don’t think Gattis is a good OC based on the total offense numbers he put on B-Cookman.
Yeah but Toledo also has Mac level talent so it evens itself out.

Just want to put out there that Shannon Dawson has coached WRs so if he’s the guy then Mario can go Streeter at QB or Coley at either position depending on how Shannon Dawson feels.
Which of the two would you rather have if it came to that choice? Streeter or Coley?

I don't know how they are doing it, but it will be Brian Johnson. Possibly Mullen on as an analyst, but Johnson will get full control over the offense and hires outside of Mirabal, and be making about $1 mil more per year than he does now, while elevating from a QB coach to an OC. I don't believe he will be in line for these NFL OC positions this year, or at least with the amount of control he would want. So he's coming to Miami to get that control and a few years of experience.

Edit: ***Few years of experience as an OC.
how do you know this?

if were doing the QB and separate oC thing then mario did not learn. your OC should be the QBC. it makes a huge diff when thats the case esp when trying to teach QBs your offense and ensure theyre running it the way you want it to run.

I understand your opinion, but the reason that Gattis failed wasn't because he was a WR coach or was "not a QB coach".

The reason Gattis failed is that he was Josh Gattis.

Additionally, the OC is not nearly the only person who interacts with the QB. For instance, Streeter did a great job of working with the Clemson QBs even when he was an assistant (non-recruiting/off-field) QB analyst for Clemson.

Whoever our OC ends up being, I'd expect at least one analyst ("off-field coach") to spend a lot of time with our QBs.

solid news is if it is brian johnson we'll finally have an OC/QB coach again which TVD, jacurri brown, and emory williams would greatly benefit from

also imagine with his success with jalen hurts that he wouldn't have any problem (Esepcially with life wallet on our side) of landing elite qb recruits

Can we trust this guy or off with his head?
Well he appeared very definitive about what he knew as if the deal was done except the whole part about not knowing how they're doing it, Then switched to talking about Johnson's potential options on the NFL level. Not sure why his NFL options would matter if the deal was finalized and salary was agreed to.

So the basics of the post are Brian Johnson is the guy unless NFL options get in the way. Which tells me he's not the guy yet as you have multiple NFL jobs open that could directly impact him.

I really think Mario is waiting on a decision from Shea Tierney/Brian Johnson. Both are still interviewing for NFL gigs and are probably his first choice. Shannon might be somebody he brings as a CO-OC/Check with me type gig. Same with Coley.

I don't know if any of that is true or not (that's not a criticism, just hear me out), but two consecutive years of "waiting for NFL guys to decide to come back to college" is a load of garbage that needs to be taken to the landfill.

There are legitimate NFL guys who come back to college for real reasons to work with younger players. It's sincere with Saban. And Carroll made it work for a while in an environment (Los Angeles) that didn't feel like a college town.

But this idea that already successful NFL guys who seem to like the NFL are just chomping at the bit for a chance to cycle back downward through the college ranks for a cup of coffee...is strange...

And, sure, Mario may really like these NFL guys. But this is not some common career path where Mario is justified in waiting months for the end of the NFL season.

Dan and Mario need to lay down the law. "Waiting for NFL Godot" needs to close immediately.

Those candidates could interview for the position of coach jobs and Mario already has his guy at OC but IMHO is unlikely.
Or even as an analyst. For example, you could bring Streeter in as an analyst especially if he is collecting a buyout from Clemson

Yep. This is exactly what happened last year. As soon as the Dorsey situation was clear with the Bills, it moved quickly. Someone he likes, whether it is Brian Johnson, Tierney, Patullo, etc. Waiting for dominoes to fall (insert Cuban joke about dominoes)

Aside from the last couple years at Houston you'd be correct. I don't follow him or Holgorsen very closely so I have no idea who is driving those results. Same can be said for his time at WVU.

He was very good at SFA on his own.

On his own at Kentucky he really struggled. That was before Stoops really figured it out and got it going. Stoops was known to want to run the Air-Raid and cycled through Neal Brown and then Dawson but couldn't stay out of the way to let them run it. He was handcuffed.

Don't think he's realistically an option. I can see Mario running the veer and shoot - ala Briles system.. highly highly doubt he goes to a traditional air-raid guy.
I talked to a couple of Houston fans and they aren't to happy with his play calling, they say his running scheme is horrible. Apparently their offense struggled the first half of the season and improved the 2nd half, some of them think Holgerson took over play calling but it wasn't confirmed.
