Did I miss the page where it made sense to think Johnson was coming here? Keep seeing people say it and feels like I’m missing something because that dude is about to be a NFL OC very soon.
Dennis Smith posted a pic of a guy named Brian Johnson on twitter.. Also apparently he posted a pic of Guidry's high school days before he was announced.

@SpikeUM - I need some more updates. I am starting to feel mopey again as the DC hiring high is wearing off and we are back to these OC shenanigans.

Well you use F+ or whatever it's called as the end all be all when you are evaluating OCs options and it's not that simple. There are a lot more factors you have to take into consideration. Like for candle despite him not grading out well in F+ his offenses have always found a way to be productive on the field

2012
Scoring 48th Total 32nd

2013
Scoring 39th Total 39th

2014
Scoring 19th total 15th

2015
Scoring 31st Total 31st

2016
Scoring 19th Total 8th

2017
Scoring 16th Total 14th

2018
Scoring 9th Total 28th

2019
Scoring 75th Total 38th

2020
Scoring 21st Total 13th

2021
Scoring 27th Total 38th

2022
Scoring 46th total 48th

Candle has been their play caller for 11 years and he's had only one offense that hasn't been in the Top 50 in scoring and that's before you take into consideration the talent he had to work with, the QB he had that season, Drops, missed throws, recruiting and etc. It's a whole lot of variables you have to look into.

Yeah. I only like statistics that factor in just how insanely bad the MAC defenses are. Like bottom 100 level defenses.

Just as I don’t think Gattis is a good OC based on the total offense numbers he put on B-Cookman.

Preface this by saying I hope it's Johnson, but I imagine Johnson will continue his his upward trajectory in the NFL.

if were doing the QB and separate oC thing then mario did not learn. your OC should be the QBC. it makes a huge diff when thats the case esp when trying to teach QBs your offense and ensure theyre running it the way you want it to run.
Do you have any data that supports this at all?

I've seen so many people parroting this premise on this board; however, there have been hundreds of successful OCs that were not a QB coach.

The only important part in that scenario, is that your QB coach understands and is on the same page as the OCs system also.

So if your only example is going to be Gattis. The reason for the dysfunction there is that Ponce didn't understand or agree with wtf Gattis was doing.

Point being: just bc Gattis and Ponce didnt click, doesn't mean that an OC HAS to coach QBs. Its just not supported by evidence.

I wonder how much Rad has to do with the search. I’d imagine his and Streeter’s overlap had to play some role with him interviewing.

I don't know how they are doing it, but it will be Brian Johnson. Possibly Mullen on as an analyst, but Johnson will get full control over the offense and hires outside of Mirabal, and be making about $1 mil more per year than he does now, while elevating from a QB coach to an OC. I don't believe he will be in line for these NFL OC positions this year, or at least with the amount of control he would want. So he's coming to Miami to get that control and a few years of experience.

Edit: ***Few years of experience as an OC.

If anything it’s bad Intel on purpose from Miami
if this is the case it’s no wonder why we can’t hire an OC. Or why our HC didnt see or care about the Former OC, former QB corch and starting QB not meeting/working together to start the season. Wasted energy.

Well he is White but that's about it lol
Also has hair similar to Sir Lancelot, so there's that. Seriously though .... he would have been 10 times better than Gattis. He was on fire as an OC and apparently took the FIU job for family reasons. Guy knows offensive football and working with QB's.

Shannon Dawson's resume leaves a lot to be desired. I've seen several calling it a good hire. Did I miss the why post? Anyone want to sell me on him? TIA
Aside from the last couple years at Houston you'd be correct. I don't follow him or Holgorsen very closely so I have no idea who is driving those results. Same can be said for his time at WVU.

He was very good at SFA on his own.

On his own at Kentucky he really struggled. That was before Stoops really figured it out and got it going. Stoops was known to want to run the Air-Raid and cycled through Neal Brown and then Dawson but couldn't stay out of the way to let them run it. He was handcuffed.

Don't think he's realistically an option. I can see Mario running the veer and shoot - ala Briles system.. highly highly doubt he goes to a traditional air-raid guy.

Can we trust this guy or off with his head?
