I look at this like a business decision. I'm not offended that Golden is entertaining an offer from a school where he both played and coached and who might substantially increase his salary. I think most people would do the same. I also respect that he hasn't said anything to the media. Coaches get pigeon-holed into saying one thing or the other by the media in these situations, and it always backfires. Saying nothing is better. If you say you're interviewing, you're fcked. If you say you're staying and leave, you're fcked.
UM, however, does need to change its mentality. I think UM needs to learn to think like the assassin if it wants to be one. It needs to regain control of the situation. It can do so by determining what's best for the university right now at this moment where a dynamic change could take place. Miami has an opportunity here to control its own destiny and is in better position now than 3 years ago.
Is there any doubt that Petrino or Chud plus staff wouldn't be an immense upgrade over Golden? There is no doubt for me especially when Golden hasn't given Miami comfort about what he's going to do with Mark D and whether he can handle SoFLa recruiting and it's associated peculiarities.
UM needs to make its move and not wait for Golden. Be decisive. Set the hire up and encourage Golden to leave.
Not sure I would encourage just yet, but I would have a short list and Blake and Donna needs to treat this program, like the top program we are. We need to stop letting coaches and players dictate our moves. We have allowed that to happen over the past decade and look where we are at this time. Like Golden has said numerous times, "you looking, we looking" and "are you kidding me" when asked about coaching at this school!
