The Miami Job

I look at this like a business decision. I'm not offended that Golden is entertaining an offer from a school where he both played and coached and who might substantially increase his salary. I think most people would do the same. I also respect that he hasn't said anything to the media. Coaches get pigeon-holed into saying one thing or the other by the media in these situations, and it always backfires. Saying nothing is better. If you say you're interviewing, you're fcked. If you say you're staying and leave, you're fcked.

UM, however, does need to change its mentality. I think UM needs to learn to think like the assassin if it wants to be one. It needs to regain control of the situation. It can do so by determining what's best for the university right now at this moment where a dynamic change could take place. Miami has an opportunity here to control its own destiny and is in better position now than 3 years ago.

Is there any doubt that Petrino or Chud plus staff wouldn't be an immense upgrade over Golden? There is no doubt for me especially when Golden hasn't given Miami comfort about what he's going to do with Mark D and whether he can handle SoFLa recruiting and it's associated peculiarities.

UM needs to make its move and not wait for Golden. Be decisive. Set the hire up and encourage Golden to leave.

Not sure I would encourage just yet, but I would have a short list and Blake and Donna needs to treat this program, like the top program we are. We need to stop letting coaches and players dictate our moves. We have allowed that to happen over the past decade and look where we are at this time. Like Golden has said numerous times, "you looking, we looking" and "are you kidding me" when asked about coaching at this school!

I've never seen anyone whisper on a message board. Yell, all the time but never a whisper.....

You don't encourage him to leave. One person ****ing in the drinking water is already one too many. If he doesn't go, how do you feel about that scenario?

Trust me on this: he doesn't want to be here. You could see it in his last press conference. Hopefully, PUS comes through and offers that job to him.

The damage has already been done. You have a corch who doesn't want to be here. How can he sell recruits on being some place he doesn't want to be?

Can't believe all of the yearning for Botch in these threads. Historically, how successful have retread coaches been in their returns at the end of their careers? Success is definitely not the norm in that situation.

It's a good job only negative now is the stadium and of course being a private school there are some financial limitations the big state schools don't have to deal with. Fertile recruiting grounds trumps a lot of that. Trust me almost every coach jumps at it except for the biggest established guys

How long until the AD comes out and announces that they have hired a consultant and take 3 months to hire a coach.

At this point does anyone want him to stay for any reason other than keeping this class together?.. Because that's the only reason I can think of.

He's already tainted this class. Bye Bye fat ***. He's going to lose kids anyway and it's ALL HIS DOING.

At this point I want him out, but fear an even sh*ttier hiring. Please, God, just don't give us another one of these "turned an awful team into a mediocre team" guys. I'm at the go big or go home stage, which admittedly makes for some irrational thinking.

No way in **** Butch Davis comes back as a DC.

That was pure speculation on my part. But if Norv Turner could work under Chud, why can't Butch? He is out of work and humbled. And he's old. Being a college coach is always tough, but being the head coach is a true grind. Maybe he'd rather be a coordinator and evaluator than the head man at this stage of his life.

All I know is we better have a definitive answer soon to save face before signing day

Why cant he be hired to be an associate athletic director like other old coaches? That's a glorified adviser/mentor position with some weight within the Admin. Its not like he's doing anything else.

Why do we say corch instead of coach again?

1. Corch
A particularly inept coach, especially one who manages to evade firing by having talented players on his or her roster. As a coach becomes more and more useless, the "a" slowly morphs into an "r."

Alternately, "Corch" may be used as a verb, as in, to "Corch" a kid up.

Inadvertently coined by U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown on the House floor (in reference to "Corch Irvin Myers" of Florida).
ESPN Analyst #1: How did USC go from pre-season #1 to a middle-of-the Pac football team?
ESPN Analyst #2: Lane Kiffin is one helluva Corch.

I hear you. I just don't see it. Anything is possible, though.

Brilliant post, D$! I've been beating that drum for many years, but coming from you, it'll get more traction. Repeat that message as often and as emphatically as you can. It's important that public perception starts to meet reality on this issue because, like you said, if enough idiots start puppeting Mark May's bullshyt, then all the other idiots will start accepting it as true.

Also, please debunk the myth that UM won't pay coaches while you're at it. UM has proven that it will pay guys who they think deserve to be paid, and UM is not a broken down poor institution like these Mark May puppets on here think it is.
