The Bank (5/19)

Texas brought in that crazy class in 2022 on the OL. They brough in 5 more OL last cycle guess what they ranked. 193, 411, 555, 610, 820. Thats Texas that had a top 3 class last cycle.

This when people get mad and say you are defending the staff because facts do not matter to them.

Can we honestly stop asking why Georgia and Alabama can do things that we can't? It's blatantly obvious that those schools win championships and put guys into the first round yearly. While we're hoping to improve to 7-5 and finish in the top half of the ACC. Miami just doesn't have the credibility that the powerhouse programs have. Maybe if we start to win and turn a couple 5 stars into 1st rounders, we can do things that Alabama and Georgia do.

UGA has won two titles in a row. What's our pitch?

A huge part of our pitch to Francis and Samson was early playing time. That is a much harder pitch when those guys are set to start through 2025.
Tell em those guys will be in the league by 2025. All that matters is that they believe it.

We signed two 5-star tackles which is scary away other elite tackles. Very few interior OL are highly rated. There are zero 5-star IOL this year.
This. Guards and Centers are guys who aren't good enough to play tackle. The very best linemen are almost exclusively tackles. If you can't cut it at tackle, you get moved inside. You're not going to get a 5* guard to come play with our guys because there's no such thing a s a 5 star guard.

- I reported earlier today that the buzz was building between Miami and Central LB Vincent Shavers. I am able to confirm that is real and expect him in this class. He is a guy who has taken a huge leap between his junior year and spring and has blown away coaches, including Jason Taylor.
If this were to happen i promise you i will shed a tear.

Like it wont get any better than Zaquan and Vince committing to us. @DMoney REAL TEARS and prophecy fulfilled

We aren’t a big-time school right now and can’t operate with that kind of equity. Trying to build towards that. The bigger issue is that our young guys are either starting or in line to potentially start for multiple years.
I remember this happening with LB's when Richt took over. Shaq/Pinckney/McCloud being in place was used as the excuse for a lot of LB recruiting misses by Manny (plus some truly weird evals and takes). I trust Mario/Mirabal to not let the same thing happen with the OL.

No ****. What's our pitch? Bama and Georgia? We didn't even make a bowl game last year. When was our last bowl win? When was the last time we were even competitive in a bowl? These kids want to get in the playoffs and go to the NFL. Mario has his work cut out for himself.

And how does that compare to UGA's pitch, to use your example? They are putting multiple first round tackles in the pros (Broderick Jones this year) and winning big. A huge part of our pitch is playing time to make up for the lack of winning.

Does anybody think Mario and Mirabal forgot how to sell OL? They just landed two five stars. But we aren't UGA and Alabama and should not be compared to them right now for a million obvious reasons.

As for NIL, we set records with how much we paid for Francis and Samson. That's what happens when you need to overpay based on your status in CFB. I'm talking about that level of tackle. It's going to be hard for a repeat.

With respect to interior OL, we are leading for the top guard and center on our board (Ahfua and Ionata) and will also look at high-upside evals like Mario and Mirabal always do. That's what they did in Oregon to supplement the big fish like Sewell.

Selling 2 Nat’l Titles, huh?

OK, then riddle me this:

What were they selling in 2017-2019 when they signed Wilson, Thomas, Slayer, Mays, Webb along the OL?

It's wild to me that people here are so absolute and data driven with our program but make excuses for others. UGA's priority was defense? Did the OC and OL coaches stop recruiting OL and start recruiting DL or something?

In fact, in 2022 UGA signed a full 5-man OL class. What they did on defense has absolutely nothing to due with who they got on the OL. It was NOT a light OL class. They just couldn't attract the top guys. Maybe because, oh, I dunno, the roster was stacked and there wasn't a way to see the field soon?

The national rankings for their 5 OL in 2022 were: 45 (IOL), 353, 426, 664, and 784.

And, oh, isn't Miami "prioritizing" DL this cycle? :)

Data driven, huh? Lol. If u think that’s what I am, then my friend…yeah, I’ll just leave it like that.

Why is it that when the big time schools sign elite players, they do it year after year at the same position. But when we do it, it spooks kids the next year.
I’ll take “most obvious rhetorical questions on the planet” for 1 billion

Alabama has six championships under Saban and has produced 44 first rounders during his tenure. That's Alabama's pitch.

Miami's pitch is early playing time.
Earlier this off-season I mentioned it would be “interesting” to see how our OL recruiting played out

I didn’t even say we “couldn’t” land an elite class I just said I think the pitch changes a lot this year

You would have thought I suggested Mario can’t recruit with the overreactions

This is an absurdly obvious point I thought

Also, I find it hilarious that u’re somehow trying to imply that we’re stacked at OL to remotely put ourselves in this same scenario. Lol.

BTW it seems to me Bama is stalking us on the trail. I know it sounds absurd but some of these players like Keyshawn Flowers has mostly big ten and northeast offers, plus us.....then Bama. I expect them to just go after the top 5 at the position since they can, while we have to do some more evaluation. Based on their transfers lately, i dont think their talent recruitment is as sound as its made out to be. Seems they pretty much just load up and absorbed the bad evals in the past. But with the portal its kinda exposing some of it. Just some random musing.

BTW they offered Chris Cole as well who is similar to Flowers as well and rated 3 star. If you watch film you know those two players are no 3 stars. Even though they border on 4. Cole is Rohan nephew so i think we good there. And as of now Flowers has us as his only OV set up in 2 weeks.

Saban respects Mario's evaluations. He's no dummy.

Yes.

I would also add that I hope that people will stop expecting us to ACTUALLY BE the recruiting equivalent of UGa/Bama within a year or two of Mario's arrival.

It's gonna take a couple of years to get to their level of "2-deep full of 5-stars".
