Taylor Edwards hired

So what will Dennis smith do going forward? Like what's the reason for his existence?
I’m biased because I know Dennis, but he will have a big role going forward and some of the discourse on him has gone too far. He’ll be the first to admit faults, but he’s also done some major things. For example, without him, there is no Cam Ward in Miami.

Edwards is a major step in the right direction. We need more strong voices and more people to do the various, rapidly changing tasks the personnel department requires.

Politely, we had all of that last paragraph with Zo. Unless Mario actually puts measures and a clear org chart in place, it won’t matter. Hopefully he has learned because they sorely misread the ability to flip early commits elsewhere, were slow to adapt to the portal at first, have communication issues with recruits, and QB recruiting processes have been concerning for two years now. And this is just what is known publicly.

Also politely, understand the relationship. Disagree with the sentiment, too many people across this board have horror stories with him. Let’s leave it there and celebrate a new era. T

We talk to the same people and I understand the dynamics. As always, things are more complicated than they appear on a message board, often second and third-hand.

I think this guy will be a better fit than Zo. He's younger and more in tune with the college game.

I can respect this, and I have never said that Dennis hasn't done some big things. But Dennis get into a very difficult zone when he did some big things and some very not-good things in relatively quick succession. If some of the negative aspects had been addressed and handled sooner, maybe all of the discourse would not have gone as far as it did.

And I may be biased too, because I know and respect Alonzo Highsmith, but he had a very strong voice and was well-suited to do the various, rapidly changing tasks the personnel department requires. And he grew tired of dealing with Dennis Smith.

So I respect all the viewpoints here. I do. Maybe Mario didn't have the prior working relationship with Alonzo Highsmith that he's had with Taylor Edwards at Alabama, and maybe things will work out much better this time. And maybe I'm still mad about Manny allowing Banda to overrule Rumph and Mario allowing Smith to overrule Highsmith.

But I AM STILL WAITING for the more knowledgeable football guys to be allowed to have the final say over the less knowledgeable guys. I don't think it's too much to ask, and I hope the third time is the charm.

PS, also what @Fluffhead said. Let's see an org chart, and let's stick to that org chart. If I hear one more story about a recruit or parent or HS coach being turned off by Dennis Smith's arrogance and anger, I'm going to lose my ****.

All of that may be true, but it doesn't change the fact that Alonzo had an eye for talent and we have had YEARS worth of less-qualified eyes overruling other peoples' decisions on who was a take and who was not a take, and making catastrophic choices and mistakes.

And, hey, this has persisted for years across two different head coaches, so I'm not saying it's all Dennis Smith's fault. He's just the latest part of the problem that is currently fixable.

Can we please bring back the Butch Davis 5 x 7 index card system? THAT WORKED.

Don't tell me we don't have an org chart.

I don't know if we do or don't.

But if we do, then we need to start hauling it out more frequently and pointing to it the next time Dennis Smith tries to overrule anyone above him on the org chart.

You would THINK that a guy who reported directly to Dan Radakovich (Highsmith) would be above Dennis Smith, but maybe there's some crazy org chart I haven't seen.

One part of this hire that I like is he succeeded at a school without unlimited resources. South Carolina had to be smart, identify specific high profile recruits (Stewart, Harbor), and complement those guys with less heralded recruits or portal additions. They built a solid team this year.
