Talk lately has me a little nervous about 2020 football season. Thoughts?

Do you think we will play football in 2020?

For your consideration:

Infection rate could be under reported by up to 85 times the current infected totals....

if even 1/2 of that is correct....

45 x 686,991 = 30,914,595

32,232 / 30,914,595 = .001 Death Rate...lower than even a regular influenza season.

IF 👆👆👆 true, hard to not reopen the country ASAP.

Yes, that would mean some CFB season this fall.

your welcome.

Why would a higher infection rate mandate opening the country earlier? It's a highly contagious virus. The more people you allow to get infected the more will die even if the death rate is lower than is being reported.

Perhaps missing the point...

infection could POSSIBLY be far more widespread than even revised previosly upward estimates.

a .0001% mortality rate plays a lot better in the "sell" of get back to normal than even a 1% rate. Better optic is ROK-style focused quarantines.

Too many people are losing too many livelihoods...you can already see massive cracks in the unison to stay closed.

Opening back up doesnt cause more infections or deaths in an unacceptable way because almost everyone is already infected per antibodies. Yes, at the national level on spreadsheets, they will make very hard and callous decisions between acceptable and unacceptable numbers.

IF 85 times is accurate, that means 58MM+ are presently showing antibodies.

My guess is the pressure to reopen will pop like a bad cooktop. Vegas is canary in coal mine on this topic--Goodman is breaking ranks and breaking hard.

Anyways, not a COVID discussion per se, just answering OP best I can.

Totally relevant on the subject of having a football season...

You get into a car you make a life or death choice. Everything in life is a choice. NCAA will make theirs. Us as fans will have to make ours. Life keeps on going. Those that want to distance will and those who don't won't. Don't see the necessity for anyone to impose their will on another. Especially using put downs instead of relevant rebuttal. Total middle school spill out area....

1. No NCAA football (70% chance)

or

2. NCAA football In empty stadiums (30 %)

and

3. If #2 happens then minimized travel in pre-arranged locations - doesn’t necessarily have to be large stadiums since no crowds

4. No OOC games with the exception of rivalries and/or P5 vs P5

My best guess

you think those scenarios above are workable??

desperate times, desperate measures...

So people will sit in stands wrapped in "high sensitivity" condoms?

Ribbed, for other fan's pleasure of course.
I guess. Whatever works. If the intent is to open up the season. It's a tough task when people are bugging about opening wide open spaces like beaches. But if it's the intent. F it . Let's try. No reward with out risk...

I think you're 100% right about people making risky choices in society all the time, but the problem with what you're saying is that in the context of a highly contagious disease, people don't make choices just for themselves. One person who chooses to expose themselves has the potential to turn around and infect many others who didn't make that choice, like the grocery store employee or the postal worker who have to go to work (and then, these people could further spread it to others, including those who chose to stay socially distant). The choices we make when it comes to this disease are not just for ourselves.

Not exactly sure what you mean by “workable“. That’s just a guess of mine as to what I think will happen. Basically either no football, or football with no people in the stands.

Unless they figure out a miraculous way to immunize us, some miracle happens, some miracle plasma treatment, some vaccine that is miraculously produced in the shortest time ever, and then mass produced in the millions in just a few weeks (not possible), or something that has a .001% probability of happening, between now and September that’s just the way I see it.

I’m not saying that we’re not going to get back to semblance of normalcy from a business perspective, but large crowds, 60,000 people 80,000, 100,000, jammed together in the stadium? This fall? I’m just not seeing it.

You can make a better argument for restaurants at 1/3 capacity or theaters with alternating empty rows and four empty seats between people, or something like that , yes that kind of stuff. But filled stadiums? I’m just not seeing it.

I respect your point of view. My point is their is more than one way to skin a cat. We're going to sit around and hide or find a way to tackle the problem?

The Fox News crew never takes this stuff into account. They're on there comparing this virus to AIDS and swimming pool accidents to appeal to the redneck base.

Packed stadiums before a vaccine, treatment, or cessation of the virus is sheer idiocy. We can't even test people yet.

Testing in limited amounts relative to population has been ongoing.

Nation wide, with near real-time results, is right around the corner.

That will ultimately settle how pervasive and deadly this event truly is. If those results are anywhere near acceptable levels, there is no way the country isn't opened as quickly as possible--too many livelihoods, in far greater numbers than mortality, depend on it.

Now, if there area few "holdout" regions, how does the NCAA reconcile that?

Will they canx the entire season because LA says "no games"? Will those teams be accommodated elsewhere?

All rhetorical questions, but ones that will get answered by somebody.

CFB season hinges on how 2nd wave is managed AND perceived 👇. Never underestimate the power of "I want my job back, my kid is hungry".
