Stadium renovation

With all the renovations they've done in the past and that are expected in the future, I just don't get why they wouldn't build a brand new state of the art stadium in the parking lot and put Sunlife out of it's misery.

Because who is funding construction of a new stadium after the Marlins fiasco?

This is best case scenario for the University of Miami. Without a doubt.

I assume it won't be much further away from this original plan

This is better than nothing. Would love to have our own house, but that's a pipe dream that will likely never come to realization.

Trust me, I'm not complaining. I just don't think there is any foresight here. But what else is new?

You guys should find the time laps of the Texas A&M renovation that is taking place. They also had seats too far from the sideline. The solution is not to add rows that are flat to the field to be closer but to first lower the field. Dig it out as they did I think 7 feet lower. This is what duke plans to do. Duke has pledged to "get as close as the NCAA allows" to maintain enough room for TV cameras and crew..
Miami needs to lower the bowl. Only problem in Miami is that water table. Its probaby a couple feet below where the current field is. The drainage system would also have to include sump pumps should their ever be a breack of the water proof membraine below. These are big costs. #350M is a lot of money and would sound to include a lower bowl rebuild.

Sad though as that area sucks.. DC got smart and built its new baseball stadium in town near the water front. Its reachable by metro. The whole area is blowing up because of it. They struk gold where the MCI center made the sketchy Chinatown area blow up as well. Now they want to bring the Redskins back into the city.. and perhaps even a 20,000 seat soccer only venue in a damaged part of the city but near the metro..

If you are looking for a way to combine Soccer with NFL look to what the Falcons are planning. They have a system that will close up the upper deck and remove seating in the lower bowl to accommodate soccer.

I think the plan is to lower the playing field to allow for the additional seats. The original configuration was designed to comfortably allow for soccer, and still have plenty of room on the sidelines. It's just absurdly huge. Due to that, the footprint of the stadium is huge, and the structure itself is massive. That's why when you have 50k in there it looks empty. Seattle is exactly what a multi-use football/soccer stadium should look like. The lower bowl is designed perfectly so it looks packed with the upper sections closed off, and for football you are still very close to the field. The entire capacity in Seattle is 67k, yet it's the loudest stadium in the league.

They could have had all the foresight in the world but the county/city/state/universe isn't funding a billion dollar stadium after the Marlins swindled them out of $2.5 Billion.

Or do you want Ross to go fundraise too?

Doesn't hurt that they pump crowd noise in over the speakers either. At least during Seahawks games anyhow.

The real noise champion is Arrowhead.

Hey he gave Millions to Michigan, he could've kept his money and invested it in his own stadium.

The design of the stadium has a lot to do with it. Sun Life isn't moving the current seats closer. Don't hold your breathe on it.

Quick question for those still complaining about the seats being too far away. Outside of adding more rows closer to the field, which they are apparently planning to do, how else do you plan on moving the seats closer? Do you want to make every single row more narrow than they already are? I don't know if you guys are all 5'2, but as a 6'4 human being, its borderline uncomfortable as is. As a season ticket holder, I often thought about removing the stupid cup holders off of the back of the seats in front of me so that I didn't constantly have them jamming into my knees all season. If it were up to me, I would simply stand the whole game and the width of the rows would be irrelevant. However, the folks around me don't seem to appreciate this idea.

I'm no engineer, but I would suggest 2 things. Demolish the lower bowl and move it closer and lower the field. I have a handyman that just built some shelves in my kitchen that could do this on the cheap.

Not sure what seat size has to do with distance from the field? There is nothing you can do really to move existing seats closer. You'd have to to tear down the existing concrete structure and physically move it closer. Essentially you'd have to tear down the whole thing.

I wasn't complaining about the seat size. I'm complaining about the space between my seat and the back of the seat in front of me (width of the row). Unless you are 400 lbs, the seat size shouldn't be an issue.

Can someone explain why one would still complain about the seats not being closer? Isn't the plan to add seats closer, something like an additional 10 rows is what I thought I read. So if you sit in row one, it will be row 11 in the new setup. If you want to be closer, you would then request the new row 1.

You're asking why people on this board are complaining? Did the sun come up today?

This makes too much sense. Stop it.
