His issue is that he thinks Candle is lined up for a P5 HC job and it makes no sense to go to Miami.
Exactly, not realizing that, typically, guys who start with 11 wins and then average 6-7 after that aren't in line for a new HC job at a better school. Offense has been stellar; record not so much.

Might be because Toledo is struggling at the QB position for some time.

That didnt prevent them from losing a tough one to Notre Dame, a game, that broke the team visibly.

Please tell me this is not leap year so I do not have to go a day without a beer.

Ya he’s openly put his name in for VT, UVA, Duke, Michigan State, Tennessee, and I’m sure there’s more over the last 2-3 years.

It’s gonna take a resurgence of Toledo or taking an OC job and killing it for a few years to get that promotion

Yeah, can't say I know much at all about Toledo's personnel, but as the saying goes, you are your record, and that's a big part of what schools look at when hiring.

As long as it doesn't exclude other chemical mood modifiers you can add the whole month of Neveruary.

Out of curiosity, why do you think Mario zero'd in on Jason Candle vs someone like Sean Lewis or even Tim Lester? Not saying one is better than the other but they're similar in that their young offensive minded, all in the same conference, and Mario doesn't really have any direct connections to either.

Maybe just felt Candle was the most realistic since he's potentially on the hot seat? Candle has better pedigree as a recruiter?

Curious to hear your thoughts too @Liberty City El @htownkidd

Well for one, how do we know he didn’t reach out to Lewis/Lester?

I just think from a philosophy standpoint, Candle just aligns with what Mario wants to do. The modern style that scores and attacks you in a variety of ways but there is an emphasis on running the pill. He traditionally has done that very well and we all know that coach is going to want to do that. At the same time though we will not be anything close to a plodding, boring offense under Candle either simply because he has never been that. IF he takes this job, its obviously a stepping stone gig with the best weapons that he has ever had and that is extremely exciting to me. An X&O wiz is one thing but one that is extremely motivated and that has NFL talent including an NFL QB is another thing. He can also just focus on being an OC, not the million other duties that HCs have to handle.

He also has pretty strong relationships in the state of FL. Toledo has recruited Florida hard for a long time.

You seem to be agreeing with me that the previous two years sucked before JJ got there. You just seem to be telling me why they sucked.

No, I seem to be correctly defining what is, and is not, a dumpster fire. There were **** good players on JJ's roster, but serious Big 8/NCAA investigations. Almost like a cloud rolled into Stillwater.

But "dumpster fire"? Uh, no.

Context, beyond a search of annual W-L records, is required. And I remember this stuff, because I was a student at UM when JJ was coaching. And when people were constantly criticizing JJ for "not winning the big games".

All of this. A skilled guy with leadership experience and something to prove (and possibly a chip on his shoulder from all those ACC teams that wouldn't interview him).
