If he sticks at Toledo he’ll get out of the rut. His DC was a savage that went like 95-6 in 6 years as Mount Union’s HC and won a couple championships. He’s got a good staff now.

Wait so you are saying he hired a DC that was a HC that left to take a coordinator job at a higher level of football? :)

But he took over a dumpster fire.

Candle took over the best team in the MAC.
The point is you can't judge someone's performance solely based on their previous won-loss record. There are always reasons.

I don't know anything about Candle so I'm not going to pre-judge him. I'll go with someone who's actually researched him like LCE.

He helped make it the best team in the MAC as the OC/QB coach. You need on him when he was solely the OC/QB coach, because that would be his role as UM. He got the HC job at Toledo, because of the job he did at OC.

There are also many great coordinators who just didn't make good head coaches. There doesn't really seem to be a correlation there.

NO!!! Out of context. Lashlee was an OC not a HC and had never been a HC. So, thst was a move up, not a move down. Totally different.
Let me try and paint a different picture for you. How many Toledo HCs have gone on to become HCs at the P5 level in the last 30 years? I’ll save you the Google search it is 2, Matt Campbell and Gary Pinkle at Missouri. Fun fact had no clue nick saban coached at Toledo for a year back in 1990.

Now how many coordinators at major programs with success have gone on to become HCs in the P5? 10+ every year(including our OC last year).

Multiple coaches under Cristobal have also gone on to become head coaches. You are getting a pay raise and get to move to Miami for a couple year. Once you get past your ego and think of the big picture the decision really isn’t that hard.

The guy is A CURRENT head coach!!!!

Do you expect an up and coming OC at G5 to take a WR position job at a P5 school. just for more money? NO!!!

I don't see how think a head coach who has a job is going to leave his job for a 2 year demotion just for more money.

A lot of hypocracy going on. People always saying they want experienced coaches. Would it be wise for a head coach to take a demotion as an OC or to continue building his head coaching resume if he wants a P5 job.

It's just like an OC quiting his job to become a position coach. It doesn't make sense. You only take a demotion when you get fired and there aren't other OC opportunities available. Same goes for the head coach.
Bro I can see this is the hill you’re willing to die on, but you picked a ****** hill. The entire board thinks (knows) you’re wrong. Time to accept defeat and move on

Really? A dumpster fire? The 1976 Oklahoma State team finished the season ranked #14 and had a running back who finished 4th in the Heisman balloting. The next two years (before JJ was brought in) were sub-par due to the Big 8 investigating JJ's predecessor for rules violations. By the way, that coach sued and was successful in getting an injunction against the Big 8, on the same issues that Jerry Tarkanian later won on in the US Supreme Court.

JJ did a great job of stabilizing the OSU program, but his best years were his first (7-4) and last (8-4). Never ranked, not once in 5 years.

Still, a fantastic coach. But his record at OSU wasn't setting the world on fire.

Totally out if context. You don't take a demotion unless you have to. Especially when you're going to make 3-4 times more money a few years later.

Too many moves on the family in a don't period of time.
You’re a professional coach. By definition you move every couple years. Only the greats get to stay put

I’ve never heard anywhere near the same amount of candidates for DC as OC. I also believe DC was sealed up or close to the last week. Unless there’s some mystery candidate I‘ll just stick with what I‘ve posted.

If it’s ND we go against I feel good. Come work with a proven winner or work for a first time HC and not have autonomy over the D?
I do also, but would full expect ND to use the come be the first black duo of coaches (for them) in major rolls at a major program. He has to know the leash is short in ND for the HC if he doesn't win enough. They as close to a good old boy SEC school as it gets.

Not sold on weather or living in Miami vs Toledo being much of a factor here.

Guy has to be doing this only as a stepping stone to a P5 head coaching job that will likely be in a town a lot like Toledo.

Don’t even think the mill more is much of a motivation. The most expensive home currently on Realtor.com in Toledo costs $850k. See what that gets you in the Gables or S. Miami.

Dude’s here gambling on a hit it and quit it.
