I had is / was and changed it. I know the psychos on this board break down every word lol. I haven’t heard any dc names other than him. TOS mentioned the other two as possibilities. I do know he is / was the plan A. That’s it.
I heard Mario tried to get Schumann for his DC at Oregon, but he would not go to the west coast. It makes sense that he would be plan A.

I’ve quit going by total stats awhile ago. There’s so many variables that can manipulate numbers. I go with my eyes , I’ve watched football long enough to know if what I’m watching is a good , well coached defense.
This! When watching defenses, I ask myself these questions. Can they get off the field on 3rd downs? Can they take away what an offense wants to do? Can/Will the DC make adjustments? Do they make dumb penalties and beat themselves?

I know for a fact Schuman was a candidate. Briles has too much smoke not to be but I don’t know that for sure.

I also know Brady was in contact , but I think most people ran with his name and made more of it than it was.

I also mentioned that it was likely more Oregon guys coming other than Mirabal. But you’re right , Mario has this **** locked up pretty tight.
You said Schumann was a candidate. Is that a Cribby nugget lol. Saying he will not be the DC

The truth is there aren't really any realistic elite coaches, especially on defense. Muschamp hasn't had a good defense in about 10 years so one can say his best days are behind him.

Jim Leonhard isn't coming here. Phil Parker isn't coming here. You can make the case for Heacock but I'm sure even some people here would say he's a Big 10 guy and his defenses don't work + the guy has never had a defensive player at Iowa State drafted in the NFL.

Mike Tressel and Doug Belk have limited DC experience. Schumann is big part of an elite DC but he's never been the guy so high risk high reward.

Go to the NFL and hope for a Macdonald/Michigan type of situation? Mike had zero experience as a DC so that was quite the gamble.

Point is there are some options but almost all of them have legit question marks. Few, if any, should be considered "elite." This makes Mason arguably one of the more "elite" options out there all things considered.
Facts!

This place is going to melt if Schuman or Mason isnt the DC lol
I’m not, I actually don’t care who the DC is, as long as it’s not Muschamp (lol) or DeRutyer (which its not thank God).

To me, any DC not named Manuela Diaz will be an upgrade.

The OC hire is way more important IMO.

Dominant Defenses don’t exist anymore, even the Elite UGA Defense that everybody drooled over all year got yanked all over the field by Bill O’Brien & Bama’s Offense for 536 yards & that wasn’t even peak Bama offense.

Even Michigans stout Defense got ran over by Mich St & gave up 431 yards vs a bum *** Nebraska team.

You’re a level headed poster. Many here aren’t lol
