So Lanning is still going to be play calling at UGA
I don’t know why anyone believed he wouldn’t what was the point of him staying if he wasn’t going to call the plays like he had all season.

It’s interesting because it was reported otherwise at one point.

My guess is we can get Schumann. He needs to go out on his own and this all sets up for Muschamp to call the UGA defense next season.

I predict this thread to reach 200 pages at least before vacancies are filled. Seriously doubt most are filled until after most bowl games are played and certain NFL teams are eliminated from play offs
My bad. Underestimated. Looking like 300 plus pages now.

You can't always judge a defense by just looking at the stats...

Manny Diaz as a DC Here YPP Rankings:
2016 - 4.75 (9th)
2017 - 4.77 (12th)
2018 - 4.3 (3rd)

Also 2018 we were #1 in the nation for Pass Defense, and 3rd Down Defense (25.27%). That 25.27% is the best 3rd down defense (percentage wise) in the last 5 years.

Manny as HC = No bueno.
Manny as DC = Not too shabby.

We can all agree Manny left much to be desired as the HC. But, his defenses (sans 2021) were good to very good.

And Auburn did make a big jump in yards/play under Mason - from 60th in 2020 to 34th in 2021.

Auburns defensive FEI rating (factors in SOS and non-def TDs allowed) made a huge jump under Mason - from 75th in 2020 to 20th in 2021.

Is the Mason talk heating up with Miami? I assumed it was Schumann or Belk.

Schuman was always the name I heard but Mason has some legs too. Maybe that’s a fallback with Partridge.

I don’t think it was ever reported Lanning wasn’t calling plays that was just message board bs. My fear with getting Schumann is rumor is Champ is happy being at UGA and so is his family so he maybe cool with letting Schumann have the play calling role. Also Kirby is going to sell Schumann on the fact that he doesn’t have to leave his wing except for a HC job just like his predecessors have so calling plays in Miami May not be enough to pry him away regardless. I just don’t feel confident in our ability to get him at all. You reach out just like you did with Brady but be ready if he says no.

I just hope Mario and the new OC runs a wide open offense with spread or west coast concepts (forgive me if the terminology is off). Mario hasn't been known for this through his Oregon tenure.

Manny's defenses those years were solid, aggressive, and disruptive. A ton of fun to watch - especially after the abortion that Onofrio put on the field. They also covered for Richt's archaic offense.

Ironically, Manny's defenses worked better with Al's recruits than his own. If he'd been able to continue to field that system with high level players in the 2-deep, it may have been fine. But we all learned all too well - Manny could not recruit his own side of the ball and wasn't ready to be a HC at this level. So........
