Dunno if it was overdone, but it seems to me that teaching OL how to play different positions offers coaches opportunities to see where they fit in best, adds depth, and makes the player more attractive to the NFL because they are adaptable. The question is where they moved around for a reason or for the ugly fun of it?
Now that tap thing, I don't know much about OL play, but that seems strange!
Question for the coaches, recent OL players here: Are teams giving up the advantage of the snap count with the center taps and QB Omaha calls?
-Dont care about making kids more attractive for nfl...its all about um. Whats better for us, imo when it comes to ol....comfortabily and chemistry is KEY. Getting use to playin next t aguy, understanding his fit on double teams...his ability to help you etc is key.
-the tap thing...was a CLEAR disadvantage to our ol...and completely absolutely STUPID. Stupid because from early in the season it was picked up on by other teams..and some of our players had lead feet in their kick anyway(Bunche, Wheeler) and it gave them absolutely no advantage. The key is an ol or offensive plyer is suppose to have the advantage as they KNOW the snap count and the play...well when both sides knows the count there goes that advantage and when a guy is slow out of his stance ANYWAY it makes it even WORSE.
-Mixing it up is good..mixing up the snap count is great also...
-I played tackle..left to be exact....me personally i use to tell my qb at times to switch up snap count...just because at times guys get comfortable when calling plays and might always go "24 lead on one"...well the dends strted getting it down and i wanted an advantage and i would on my own tell my qb change snap count.
UM and the Miami Freaking Dolphins did the same dumb sh*t with the guard tapping the count...which was as a de/dt.."watch for the tap..count 1-thousand one, 1 thousand two" and the ball will be snapped EVERYTIME..
Its a tragedy...even though our ol imo was solid or a blevel group imo.
Im just not a big fan of KEHOE and his pre historic approach....
-And their confusion on a philosophy which is painfully obvious....we want to run a finnese run blocking scheme, yet recruit behemoths on the line still who arent that athletic.Theirs a disconnect there as far as what Fisch wants and what Kehoe wants. Honestly Kehoe isnt a FAN of the BIG ol coming in.....he generally would recruit for a zone blocking scheme as he likes lighter guys coming in...but clearly my boy Golden is in PSU mode and even before him Stoutland were fans of the huge tackles and guards. If your going to recruit those types...let them do what they do.....Block north-south and get after it....not have them in pass pro alot...pulling Malcolm Bunche and eve attemptjing to pull centers at times...
It made me mad as u got to see it alittle bit against UNC....and a few other teams when we just did that out of having to. I currently LOVE our ol recruiting right now still...and think we wont fall below a SOLID to good ol group for awhile...i just think we could be an ELITE group with tweaks to philosophy and connection throughout.
