Do what UT did - to an extent - and make the high school part of the stadium itself. It might make for a somewhat odd facility, but you could do it.
Read the article. He has offered to move the high school, and if he is willing to pay for it, why do you care?
Well said brotherHe will be a problem, dude screams Try Hard. Unfortunately, the idiots amongst us are easily wowed by a dude flapping his gums about things that he knows nothing about. Ever notice that the Soffers and the consistent money never say anything? There's a reason why, they aren't out there trying to be loved, they are merely trying to do what's right for the University.
I think it's fair to say she failed at keeping us competitive in a spending sense. But as we've seen this year, there is a lot of pushback when it comes to football. Some board members seem to hate it, some are ok with it but don't think we should spend more. Whatever the case, when everybody who has power isn't on the same page, it can be difficult to get anywhere. I think we're here because we've never had anyone in power who was a strong enough figure to bring everyone else along. In that, Miami is hardly unique. Most large organizations have this issue which is why I brought up other schools and their history. At bama football is everything and always has been. They've got decades upon decades of history of doing every single thing they could to win and caring for nothing else. So when somebody figured out the money angle they were all in right away. That’s a good analysis.
Pluses: Shalala likes football, and could EASILY have done the politically palatable thing and cancelled the 2006 or 2011 season, or even cancelled the program. She would have been hated here for it, but lionized nationally for having done so. She would have been a legend. She instead fought back against media calls for cancellation in 2006, and the NCAA in 2012-2013.
Negatives: As college football spending began to increase heavily in Florida, Alabama, and other places she appeared very slow or unwilling to advance. It’s one thing when a Florida spends twice as much as you in the 80s. It’s another thing if they spend 5x as much. I’ll never forget Randy Shannon saying that the couches in the Hecht Athletic Center were the same furniture from when he was a player nearly twenty years earlier. Or Al Golden trying to get a nutritionist on staff, and being told no initially.
*you’re
Lmao you sound like one of my ex gf’sI bet you are a hoot at parties with your holier than thou outlook on everything. Guys and girls alike probably flock to you and seek you out to be mesmerized by your wit and charm and aim to maybe, if they are lucky, one day be even 1/3 the person that you are. I myself am in awe and I have no doubt your parents are super proud of the assbag you have become!
Not that long, schools get rebuilt all the time.Schools take years to be built...so where does He put over 3K students while this happens?
Shalala wasn't good for Miami football. But she was great for the school and help turn UHealth into a monster that is paying dividends now.
I like and appreciate that Ruiz is willing to spend his money (although, if you know anything about insurance attorneys, his business, etc his saying you would laugh a bit at that). But the idea of him financing a stadium, especially one in Coral Gabkes at the location of Coral Gables High School is laughable and ridiculous. So much so that you have to wonder if it's a part of some sort of scam lol. I would love a closer, mini Orange Bowl. But that's the least of my concerns. If the Canes win, Hard Rock Stadium is as good an atmosphere as any. Just go back to that game against Notre Dame. I don't think the Irish ever had an experience like that in an opposing stadium.
Yep, outlandish, irrational crap sells, because you can't use logic to beat an emotional argument. Ruiz's comments lack even the whiff of logic or rationality, so someone like Dr. Shalala, that has a ton of experience dealing with CG and knows the challenges notes that it's borderline impossible to build that facility anywhere near campus, is automatically attacked.post like that got trump the presidency
As discussed in this thread and others, UM having its own stadium has a ton of advantages. There's nothing wrong with Hard Rock, it's an amazing stadium with the renovations, but we are at the mercy of Stephen Ross and the Dolphins franchise. Have we not learned anything after the OB/Marlins fiasco? Also, there's a ton of financial benefits to having our own stadium.Frankly, Dr. Shalala's impact on Miami football has been overstated for years, by a bunch of fans that don't know a **** thing about the University and needed someone visible to blame. The Miami BOT allowed the program to rot, they could have easily stepped in and put Miami football back on equal footing with the competition, especially as the arms race heated up. I will say this, Dr. Shalala standing up for Randy Shannon and helping to get him hired was a mistake, but I could also see why she would prefer the Miami lifer over someone like Charlie Strong, who was an outsider(The rumors were that it was a 2 horse race between those two coming down the stretch)
That said, the entire "We're going to build a stadium thing" smells like typical BS from a potential con artist. I'm in favor of this guy spending money, but I wouldn't be shocked if something happens along the way. Something just doesn't seem right and I can't put my finger on it. I don't know why, but Ruiz has a lot of Trump in him and not in a good way. A nouveau rich dude that says outlandish, illogical crap and then goes after anyone that dares note how irrational and ridiculous it is. I'm willing to bet that there's a legit overlap between the people that support Ruiz's nonsense and the people that bought DJT's brand of BS.
The University of Miami program doesn't need to build a stadium, unless it's on campus(Impossible), or directly adjacent to(also extremely improbable). If you are building at Tropical Park or somewhere else, you are still playing off campus, it's still pointless. Frankly, Miami would be better off waiting for the Marlins to inevitably move(Eventually they are going to have to, they have lost the fanbase, and the new stadium sheen is wearing off), and taking back the OB site.
Exactly. I don’t want a ****** college stadium with concrete and bleachers for seats. And newer stadiums, especially smaller ones like they want to build are erector set bleachers like UCF or FIU.Doak is a ****hole
