Ruiz addresses Shalala

That's a misunderstanding of how we got here. Miami has never supported it's football team, but in the past coaches were able to get past that. Today they can't. Sure, Donna failed to modernize and change with the times, but she's not the reason we're here. We're here because past Miami leaders never prioritized football so it never became a central part of the university culture. At OSU or bama, most people think the university exists to serve the football team, and Miami's never felt that way. Football never became a thing you just don't f**k with at Miami. ****, Tad never gave a sh*t about football, and it didn't start with him either.
Like you said, Donna failed to modernize and change with the times. So she did fail the football program. That includes standing by and allowing the Orange Bowl to be torn down. That’s the bottom line.

Frankly, Dr. Shalala's impact on Miami football has been overstated for years, by a bunch of fans that don't know a **** thing about the University and needed someone visible to blame. The Miami BOT allowed the program to rot, they could have easily stepped in and put Miami football back on equal footing with the competition, especially as the arms race heated up. I will say this, Dr. Shalala standing up for Randy Shannon and helping to get him hired was a mistake, but I could also see why she would prefer the Miami lifer over someone like Charlie Strong, who was an outsider(The rumors were that it was a 2 horse race between those two coming down the stretch)

That said, the entire "We're going to build a stadium thing" smells like typical BS from a potential con artist. I'm in favor of this guy spending money, but I wouldn't be shocked if something happens along the way. Something just doesn't seem right and I can't put my finger on it. I don't know why, but Ruiz has a lot of Trump in him and not in a good way. A nouveau rich dude that says outlandish, illogical crap and then goes after anyone that dares note how irrational and ridiculous it is. I'm willing to bet that there's a legit overlap between the people that support Ruiz's nonsense and the people that bought DJT's brand of BS.

The University of Miami program doesn't need to build a stadium, unless it's on campus(Impossible), or directly adjacent to(also extremely improbable). If you are building at Tropical Park or somewhere else, you are still playing off campus, it's still pointless. Frankly, Miami would be better off waiting for the Marlins to inevitably move(Eventually they are going to have to, they have lost the fanbase, and the new stadium sheen is wearing off), and taking back the OB site.
I agree. There is a lot about this guy that raises flags and people in Miami/Coral Gables know him well. A stadium in Coral Gables is almost a non-starter. There is very little available
I beg to disagree on UHealth... that monstrosity bled cash for years and nearly bankrupted the university... if it wasn't for the govt bailouts, it would have been the biggest white elephant project in school history....
Fortunately with Federal funding from Obamacare and the current crisis pours in money to the Health system and saved it. Nothing to do with her planning.
Frankly, based on her connections, it was never going to go bankrupt. She banked (pun not attended) on it being kept afloat early on and it paid off.

I would like to brag about how I guessed correctly but anyone with a clue knows only Broward fans hate this idea. Broward Tears thread may need to be created if this happens.
I went to games in the Orange Bowl for decades. I would gladly make the trip to Tropical Park if they built a real stadium there with real parking. Will I take some type of tri rail or monorail to some dumpy erector set stadium? Nah, I’ll pass.

Modern stadiums are built with comfort and amenities in mind. If you want people who actually have money to attend your events, you have to do better than aluminum bleachers.

Why does she think anyone cares about her opinion? She is not the president of the university anymore.
Good Question. Who is asking her and why?

This guy can play SimCity all he wants. If it works great...if not, its his time and money not mine.

Next, can we get him to offer every top Miami recriut bags...Oops....I mean huge NIL deals.

If we are talking about the most feasible and most cost-effective option it is Tropical Park. However, as I've pushed on Twitter billions of times the most Miami thing ever would be at Miami Seaquarium in conjunction with Virginia Key. The views would be amazing and a 55k stadium totally fits but the things that people would argue are almost the same as in Coral Gables. Furthermore, the traffic situation has been well discussed in the Twitter space's and solutions could be worked out with the city of Miami Dade. However, that would be a project that would take 4-5 years to get rolling and I know Ruiz wants it done as early as 2023. Whatever the plan is I agree with DTP that you can't just go cheap with bleachers and downgrade the fan experience because that would suck. Also, I really enjoy tailgates as I am sure the majority of fans would hate to have that taken away.

Yep.. I doubt the stadium goes up there if any stadium at all is built but the fact he went public with a reaction like that is awesome....

Coral Gables probably isn't going to happen. Too much politics involved.

I'll keep saying it though, the Tropical Park location is perfect and could happen. You could build an exit ramp right off the Palmetto directly into the stadium/parking lot/parking garage.

Seaquarium? there is one two lane road in and one two lane road out. never never never going to happen. some of you guys are either very young and
inexperienced or older and way to naive for your age.

next to virginia key? are you aware of the approved master plan for virginia key? are you also aware of the massive sewer treatment plant on viriginia key that will literally stink up the stadium with any kind of north wind. are you aware that the prevalent wind direction after september is from the north? so that the fans will be smelling chit and smell like chit after the game?

the stadium issue will NEVER EVER EVER EVER get done by 2023.

and tropical park probably doesn't work for many reasons, including lack of parking, two large pieces of which just disappeared when the country built two large buildings on them.

Exactly. The problem with building anything like that in the city is: where are you going to find the space? It’s not just a matter of room for a 50k+ seat stadium, you need parking and reasonably easy access to and from the facility.

Secondly, you better build a reasonably comfortable stadium if you’re going to try to charge what they charge for tickets. Nobody is going to pay good money to sit in a stripped down stadium with no comfort or amenities. I was ready to cancel my tickets at Hardrock before they did the remodel because baking in 95 degree heat for four hours every Saturday was getting old. One of the biggest issues UM had with the Orange Bowl was lack of luxury boxes or pretty much any type of premium seating. The money made from those types of ticket sales far outweighs what they can get from the cheap seats. ****, Hardrock literally ripped out their four cheapest sections just so they could put nicer monitors up. It’s all about appeasing to the big money crowd.

At end of the day, I don't care if Ruiz builds a stadium in CG or not...
He has delivered more in the last 10 days than what has been done since Jimmy left for Dallas. This program never has had more energy and excitement about its future since those days....

... never thought I would see those days again. Just overjoyed with what Ruiz and his friends have accomplished!! Hats off to them.

Well, I'm from Palm Beach, so not only Broward. I also rarely get to attend games and drive down to the campus to see baseball games, so there's that.

If you absolutely must have a separate stadium, then the Melreese/Magic City locations would be best as you could possibley get som sort of shuttling from the airport Trirail/Metrorail stops. Although there are plenty of peopl who probably wouldn't adapt well to coming from further north and taking a really long commuter train ride.
