Richardson gone, RB coach search Thread (Lockette, Bennett?)

I wouldnt hire him just for this reason, but Lockette would deliver Cook you'd have to imagine

If we get Lockette from Central..we would never have to worry about the inner city kids again. Yearby, Cook, and Sony at RB next year.

Hire Lockette!!!

Both guys who are being interviewed are very good coaches and good guys (from everything that I have heard in the coaching community)

I'd hire him for these reasons:

1. Harmony in the community: As ridiculous as it is, the atmosphere in the community is pretty volatile with respect to Al and the inner city. By hiring a well respected coach at one of the premier H.S. programs in the area should immediately put an end to such ridiculous talk.
2. Recruiting: By hiring Lockette, it can only help us land 5-star recruit Delvin Cook. And any other kid we want from Central.
3. Coaching: I have no idea what Lockette's coaching resume looks like and I have no opinion on his coaching ability. Howeever, the RB coach may be the least important coach on the staff. It's a position that can be filled with a "recruiter".

The RB coach is just as important as the other offense coaches. If you can't teach a RB to pick up a blitz or run to the right hole you got nothing!

Lockette has developed some stud RBs at Central. Some great coaches have come from high schools recently ( Chad Morris, Gus Malzahn, Jeremy Pruitt,...). This Lockette guy is Miami-Dade County through and through. I don't see kids stringing him along on the recruiting trail. I'm all in for giving him a shot.

Somebody has to fill Hurlie Browns position also. Maybe both end up here.

Does Golden need another Miami-Dade county recruiter or should he expand his horizons and look on a national stage. Maybe someone with ties to NOLA or in Texas? I'm just throwing that out there. For me, I say Lockette is the smartest move. If he is qualified to handle the position.

Another thing, awhile back a couple of Dade county coaches were complaining on how no one ever hires coaches from down there. This may help with that.

But I completely understand why colleges don't hire from down there.

Uh....no.

Some insignificant message board ponderings...

#1 Would other Dade coaches be jealous? I'm sure they would all applaud it in public, but in the back of their minds many of the big dogs would be saying "Why him and not me?" Lots of these folks are gigantic egos with a me-me attitude. I wouldn't blame Bennett for being upset if he were passed over.... NFL RB, former Cane, just helped us land Coley.... he has a pretty decent resume for it.

#2 What happens if things don't go well? Whoever we hire won't be here forever. It's possible they could entrench themselves into UM staff forever, but we've been down this road with Ice, and now we have to deal with that ****. If/when Lockett's tenure is up, is it going to be Ice Part 2?

#3 If you're Sony Michel and they hire Cook's coach, do you think you're ever going to be the guy or are you going to be playing second fiddle? This point is so insignificant that it wouldn't factor into my decision at all if I were calling the shots - you have to hire the right guy and can't worry about 1 kid - but it's message board fodder anyway.

There are clearly things to like about him as a potential hire, but I don't think it's the no-brainer that fans are suggesting.

Swag, you hit a homerun with query #1. Exactly what I was thinking. I think you HAVE to hire a guy like Telly because he's the type of potential monster recruiter with ties to S. FL that we need. However, you will NEVER makes some of the a##holes with axes to grind happy down there. Maggots like Lice and Uncle Puke will still have their own agendas and will still be grinding that axe against UM.

You don't hire Lockett to make those types of idiots happy. You hire him because you think he will help you lock down the area no matter what those 1 or 2 stray cumbags have to say.

Golden could hire Nick Saban as RB coach and someone would have a problem with it. I like having a guy like Lockette on the staff along with a guy like Barrow. Barrow seems like a nice guy that likes to build relationships and so forth. I think he's an ordained minister, too. However, Lockette seems a bit more......"brash". He seems like a no nonsense type that some of the kids would really respect. He seems a little different from anyone we have on the staff right now. For lack of a better phrase, I think Lockette may have a "ghetto pass"..

Golden has made it clear the the program is bigger than any one person and any one recruit. He will hire the coach he thinks will be the rest coach to help UM succeed and not so that he can appease local perception or land a big time 2014 kid.
