Richardson gone, RB coach search Thread (Lockette, Bennett?)

Just learned that Miami Central's HS Head Coach Telly Lockette interviewed for the second time yesterday for #UM RB coach position.

Thought we already knew that

Honestly I think with either of the 3 guys talked about in this thread it's a win win situation.

Solly - resume and reputation speaks for himself, one of the best evaluators of talent around, guys this guy not only eyed great rb talent and coached them up, but he aided in evaluating and recruiting other guys at other positions as well. He was integral in building up this team. Only negative is his age, but with his coaching abilities and ties to the community it compensates and you also are most likely not looking at him leaving for anything else, so you can envision him staying long term of at least 5 years

Lockette - young and up and coming, has the ties to the inner city, is born and raised from it, has developed some **** good rb at Central, coached at Northwestern and built Central into a national power and overtook NW as the big boy in Dade. As for recruiting concerns, come on people, he's already proven that at Central, there is just as much recruiting in South Florida High School football as there is in College football, he is well versed and succeeded in it. Add in the African American slant, and it's a slam dunk from a PR perspective as well

Bennett - 8 year NFL RB as well as former alum, has done great work at Northeast, and is from South Florida as well. He knows the position understands what it takes, and as well has local ties.

In all honesty, can't go wrong here, personally I have Solly and Lockette as 1A and 1B with Bennett next. But who knows, what if Golden did the same with Bennett that Bielema did with the Stay Puff Marshmellow Man from Plantation? If so he has to honor that, and please don't be naive enough to think Golden doesn't play those recruiting games either.

Finally, don't devalue that position coach, just running with the ball is not the only thing, in fact one of the things that made the transition from the college to the NFL so easy for UM rb's especially the James to Gore era, was that these guys were taught and drilled into them the fundamentals of pass protection, blitz pick ups, ball security and placement, route running out of the backfield and catching passes. Don't undermine that position and proper coaching. Which Solly was phenomenal in that, and from what I saw first hand with Richardson he did a very good job with while at UM.

I've changed my mind on something. I'm standing with the brow and advocating for Trooper Taylor to be brought in at RB coach. Middle fingers aimed directly at the NCAA.

I love the idea of Sedrick Irvin, too. He has a better resume than Lockette or Bennet, and hiring him isn't going to **** off any of the local clowns. But he is from Miami and was a legendary HS player down here.

Y'all are straight crazy if you think anyone at any school can ever lock down South Florida recruiting...just can't happen. We've got a staff full of recruiters already. I'd love to see Solly come back, know that's likely a pipedream.

"Lock down" is strong wording...but, Miami can bat .950 of their targets if they are playing well and got their **** in order.
