QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

To be clear, I’d probably also prefer whichever QB we might be back-channeling to Milroe. My point is just that I believe Milroe has a path to being successful at Miami.

As far as bringing in a potential QB1 after spring…that’s just a huge no.

I think this season has people a little disoriented and overstressing the QB position. Mario walked into the horseshoe and beat a better version of OSU with Anthony Brown at QB, a dominant OL and a well-coached defense.

We had a generational QB that was undone by our sieve of a secondary. Time to fix the defensive side of the ball and sure-up the OL. A capable signal-caller will be found to lead a tougher and more balanced TEAM next season.

OK - then hire Tommy Rees. 🤷‍♂️ If that's the season you're pointing to, then hire the guy that helped him have his best year. I'll own mixing up my years and forgetting about Rees coming in that year. Mea culpa.

O'Brien did have his hands on Milroe for 2 seasons before that, though. You'd think having a guy like BOB on hand to coach you for 2 years would have helped his development as a passer.
BOB also told him to swap positions lmao

I hope you're right. I think fixing the D and getting a QB that fits our system (not us tweaking our offense to fit a QB) are of equal importance for any success we have next year.

I just straight up will never understand the “you don’t need an elite QB” crowd, ESPECIALLY using this year as an example. Our offensive line was really good, but it was not “you can put anyone back there” good.

We can agree on the latter point.

I think it's asinine that you think Milroe could turn into Clayton Tune as a passer just by Dawson coaching him, though.

I don’t believe Milroe can turn into Tune as a passer. I believe Milroe can 1) have a much better season as a passer than he did in 2024, and 2) be successful at Miami (passing and running) in 2025.

His time at Bama doesn't back up that belief. And hoping Dawson can coach him up doesn't instill confidence either.

That's where we diverge.

We need someone who can run all facets of our offense. When we say elite QB, it means both passing and running. Being able to make big plays/throws in big moments.

Will we get someone elite with both? I doubt it. If we can get someone that can run the offense and distribute to the playmakers, I think that's as much as we can hope for tbh.

To your point - Cam's escapability and knack at extending plays with his pocket presence and arm talent made our OL look great. They did play great, no doubt, but Cam did make them look amazing. Whoever is back there next season won't be able to do what Cam did in a lot of ways, but especially that way.

Didn’t Milroe have one of the best QB ratings in 2023? 2024 was obviously not a good year, but I think you’re going a bit overboard. Factually (statistically) speaking, Milroe had a pretty solid season in 2023.

No, he wasn’t throwing it a near record breaking clips like Daniels and Nix, but nobody is arguing that.

Tune also threw for almost 12k yards in his career, man. Compare Tune/Milroe as passers.

Quarterbacks are allowed to throw the football nowadays. They don't just have to run it.
Fine, I’ll bite.

Misleading as Tune was granted 5th year due to covid and that’s when he did his best work.

You wanna compare passing numbers, then be fair and equal. Here’s how they ACTUALLY stack up passing.

Milroe - 27 career starts
5,789 yards passing. 42TDs, 18INTs

Tune - first 27 starts
6,515 yards passing, 51TDs, 26 INTs

Tune averaged only 30 more YPG passing. It’s incomparable when you factor in rushing. Jalen Milroe at UM next year would be by FAR his best season ever in college.

But would Milroe at Miami with Dawson this coming season look more like 2023 with Rees or this year with Sheridan/DeBoer at Bama?

That's a completely debatable question.

However - with QBs there tends to be a progression. What he put on the field this year is more of what he is likely gonna be in the future. Keep in mind to that 2023 was his first year starting and no one had any film to really scheme up against him. This past year, they got that film, and amongst other things, saw how he tips the pass vs run. His regression as a passer is probably part system change, part supporting cast, and part opposing DC's scheming up things to exploit what weaknesses they can.

AND probably means that the new wazzu coach thinks the wazzu qb is better
You cannot be more wrong, the guy has a draftable grade from the NFL and with that you don’t go from South Dakota State to Washington State. It’s basically a lateral move nowadays.

It’s P4 or NFL.
