QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

Do we outbid OU for a QB:

1) whose OC was just hired by the Sooners

2) grew up in the DFW exurbs, a 2.5-hour drive from Norman

3) plays in one of the two conferences that actually matters

Seems like a tough climb, especially since Venables knew how much he needs an answer at QB when he hired Ben Arbuckle from Wazzu to run his offense
Good chance he goes there but OU is an awful spot for a qb right now. They also have a dead man walking at HC. Miami can pay and Miami can say time in to the Heisman trophy this weekend to see a familiar face.

They play the 27th, gives him 1 day to enter??
If my memory is correct the 28th is the last day to enter the paperwork but then names trickle in over the few days following the 28th. If the kid has decided to leave he can just submit the already completed paperwork on the 28th and his name will hit whenever WSU processes.

But the reality is that coaches are already tampering with him and know what’s up.

Chasing mateer giving all the things working against you or already in play at ou screams vernell brown/ben hanks 2.0. Don’t even worry about that recruitment go get another quality guy
A families loyalty to a program for decades versus an OC you’ve had for a year or two? Everyone had Hurts following coach ***** here too. But people in his camp were like why go there when you can go play in Riley’s O?

You owe it to the fans and the program to recruit the best guy. Even if it’s more likely he goes elsewhere. Most of the posts here ripped Mario last year for riding the Cam drama out for **** near two months. How did that turn out ?

Mendoza is honestly the best option no matter what, talented kid, from Miami and I’d assume we’d get a hometown discount where we can reallocate resources to other positions ala db. I’m all aboard the Mendoza train ngl

Mendoza is expected to garner major interest. Those around the coaching & personnel world view him as a high-end QB with NFL upside.

But I thought Mendoza only got talked about on here because of the Cuban Mafia?

For the record, I don't think Miami goes in this direction. But I'm contractually obligated to hype up a fellow Cuban. Plus, I was the first media person to tag Mendoza as an FBS QB when he was committed to Yale, so I'll give myself a Barry Horowitz pat on the back when he signs for more than $1 million a year.
D you also said you expect miami to move very quickly at QB. Sounds very quiet there right now. And what about the Caleb downs / impact players?! @DMoney

By now we all know that Mario needs a generationally talented QB to win double digit games (see Herbert and now Ward). If Mendoza ends up as our starter you can be guaranteed we will won't win more than 7-8 games next year and in reality likely less.

He won 10 games and played for a conference championship with Anthony Brown at QB. The offense finished 18th in the country that year according to F+

I can Understand that too but also I’m not paying millions for that guy when I can Get Mendoza on what I presume On a hometown discount and reallocate the left over resources you would have spent over a priority qb target.

We just need a guy to run the system , as great as cam ward was, he did too much sometimes

So Mario has done well when he has had QBs that can move, and horrible when he had QBs that can’t.

Huh. Weird.

I’m just saying bro. I’ll give Mario the benefit of the doubt on this one until he pulls the trigger. I’ve ripped him enough this year albeit fairly.

I would guess MC has Mendoza on the back burner until they hear a final call from Mateer.
Dangerous game two years in a row

Mendoza isn’t really a Plan B type kid. I’d prefer someone else but the kid was only a soph and plenty good enough to start and succeed for a lot of teams

Not gonna jump to any conclusions though Mario earned it last year with Ward

Why do you keep pretending Mendoza can't move? You compared him to Will Rogers in another thread, which just isn't true.

No one is saying he's as elusive or can run like Cam can (who only ran when he was forced to). The point is that he is mobile. He's a guy you can run read option with and the defense has to account for him. Will Rogers isn't. Emory Williams isn't. TVD isn't

True, I am As well but I just think we can do MUCH worse than Mendoza. He might even have nfl potential down the line . I’d be all for it with Mendoza but I’d believe it when I see It when it comes to mateer

I wouldn’t assume he’s giving any type of hometown discount
