QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

He ran for the same yardage as Cam did, but just got sacked a lot more.

Cam had 196 rushing yards and lost 142 on sacks = 338 yards
Mendoza had 105 rushing yards and lost 235 on sacks = 340 yards

How would you compare the threat of Cam scrambling versus the threat of Mendoza scrambling and how that impacted the manner in which DC's approached the game?

Where would Cam go in the draft if he has Mendoza's wheels?

Or he already has a deal with OU in place. I haven’t seen anything about them as far as qb movement…..
My only question is if he’s so OU and has a deal in place why hasn’t he entered already? What’s the point of dragging it out? I mean he could enter and put a “ do not contact on” which is code for “leave me alone , I know where I’m going”.

He threw 16 TDs in a conference that doesn't play defense and can't run.

He isn't good.
With a line that barely blocked and a WR corps that starred a walkon by the end of the season. He's really not nearly as bad as people think. He's literally rated higher than Murphy in almost every stat that matters. Murphy had a better WR corps and coaching staff/team around him.

On tape there doesn’t look to be much difference to me. Mendoza is a lot taller and has longer strides. But he can move the pocket and be used the same in the roll out game. Move the chains when need be.

Money has already said he doesn’t expect us to go in this direction which seems strange to me. Hearing anything different?

Yea that’s true too. But he does have until the 28th I believe. I was really just talking but it is interesting that there has been no mention of them targeting a qb. Maybe Mateer sticks with wasu who knows

I barely saw Mendoza play outside of our game, so I can't answer those Q's without bull****ting you.

My point was that I don't think it's fair to call him a statue. That much was clear to me from watching our game, and his full season stats back that up.

Hopefully someone who's watched more of his games can comment on whether a lot of the sacks were on him holding the ball too long or on his bad OL. Some QBs can run pretty well, but don't have much escapability. Just from their game against us, I'd say Cam definitely has more escapability than Mendoza.

Another positive about Mendoza is he has a full season of game experience. I wouldn’t be excited but I wouldn’t be upset either.

If we have even just an average defense we don’t need any QB to be what Cam was this year. An average defense and the QB won’t be throwing 40+ times a game under Cristobal.

If he has an agent he’d be a fool not to listen to other schools especially one that took a WSU qb and out him in the Heisman race . On top of making a lot of money. Maybe he stays put , maybe he goes to OU I’m just spitballing. OU is an awful situation though.

Mendoza wasn’t my top guy but I’d be ok with it if he’s the choice. I like adults in the room at this position. Smart , mature guys who care. On top of that he has more talent than some here are giving him credit for. He moves well for 6’5 , has a good enough arm and is accurate. Plus he doesn’t turn the ball over. He also throws a nice back shoulder fade.

We’ll be surround him with a very good OL, skill guys and run game. He’s never has anything like this. Get him at a home town discount then go spend on the defense. If we’d had a guy like this two years ago versus a turnover machine at qb we likely win double figures and play for the Acc.

Good post Crib (even though now I'm getting the sense that we're already pretty far down the road with Mendoza 🙁)

But do you think we win the ACC and make the playoffs next year with a low ceiling, high floor game manager?

The ACC will suck yet again, but I'm not convinced our roster is that deep or that we're necessarily gonna kill it in the transfer portal (and we haven't even got to the matter of whether or not there will be defensive staff changes upgrades)

Mendoza isn't going to replicate Cam, but this was one of the primary selling points in getting Ward to transfer to UM (amongst other considerations). The gap between Mendoza and Emory isn't as wide as it is between Ward and Emory, but if we can get Mendoza for a good price and shore up other areas on defense, I'd be happy. Seems like the portal priority last season was landing a star QB and it hit. This year, UM needs to hit big-time on defense, especially in the secondary.
