QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

Emory 6'5 220
Mendoza 6'5 225

Mendoza took 41 sacks last year, which is insane (that's #1 in all of CFB).

They seem extremely similar as QBs except you'd be paying much more for Mendoza.

Don't like it.

I’m one of those who want nothing to do with Mendoza but he clears Emory. He has more zip on his ball and he is much more mobile, actually a decent threat to take off and run for big gains.

He is not much more mobile. He’s a little less slow. Neither guy works without truly elite skill position players.

Mendoza is expected to garner major interest. Those around the coaching & personnel world view him as a high-end QB with NFL upside.

But I thought Mendoza only got talked about on here because of the Cuban Mafia?

For the record, I don't think Miami goes in this direction. But I'm contractually obligated to hype up a fellow Cuban. Plus, I was the first media person to tag Mendoza as an FBS QB when he was committed to Yale, so I'll give myself a Barry Horowitz pat on the back when he signs for more than $1 million a year.

Mendoza is a good QB. He’s accurate and he averages about 7.6 yard per attempt, which isn’t terrible (40th overall). Listen. Our offense is going to look different next year. We had the wagyu this year. We are not going to get that next year. We are going to have to play more ball control and distribute style. That’s the reality of the situation and why missing the playoffs this year is a giant kick in the sack

Just out of curiosity, why do you want nothing to do with him? I haven’t seen him play much so I don’t really have an opinion on him.

I think all the connections are there and this is our QB next year. Better OL for him and he’ll probably much more success

He had a 50 yard run against Stanford . Emory would need a golf cart to do that
No question he's much more mobile than Emory. He had 340 rushing yards minus sack yards. If he's the guy, I don't hate it, even if I don't love it. He had a nice season, and it's fair to project he'll be much better when he has a capable OL in front of him.

At This point I’m curious to see WHAT direction we go in if it’s not mensah or Mendoza. I doubt we’d be sitting on 1 QB, waiting for Mateer when the rumors are he’s most likely headed to OU. And I don’t see anymore noteworthy QBs entering

@DMoney do you think we don’t go in this direction because of optics (don’t hire someone you can’t fire) or because they are looking for a different skillset?

So he is a high end qb with nfl upside generating a lot of interest, went to Columbus and is from Miami but you don’t think Miami goes in this direction? That sounds odd if Miami felt the same way. Lol.

Mendoza has it between the ears....and when you have that and some athletic ability you can be a really great qb.

Tim Tebow could barely throw a forward pass but look what he accomplished.

I wont go and say this would be a homerun but I do think he is right there with anyone else in the portal but he has proven he can do some things with minimal talent around him. Give him our line and weapons...could be interesting.

It's possible, but I don't think it's a lock or anything. These things change fast, though
