Proof of Concept at QB

I think everyone needs to come to terms with the fact that if you bring someone in like Lagway, he does not have four years of experience like Cam and no matter who we bring they won't have the overall presents of Cam because he's generational. Be prepared for a big learning curve and the loss of a few games because of it.
I agree. I know I'll get bodied for saying this, but Emory Williams being in the system a few years really means something. If we just bring in a highly recruited player without the experience, there is no telling what we are really getting. We knew with Ward.

I hope we can bring in the best QB every year, but we won't. No team can. At some point we're going to have to roll with someone on the roster that knows the system.

I we really sure they are trying to get someone from the portal? Its all speculation at this point.

I think they’d be crazy not to try for Mateen.

UW currently has the #1 passing defense (allow 123 yds per game) and the #6 overall defense. Wazzu beat them 24- 19. Mateen went 17-34 for 245 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Not too spectacular though the air, but that’s to be expected against the top pass D in cfb. It was tough to move the ball through the air so he generated offense with his legs, adding 16 carries for 62 yards and 2 TDs. In other words, Mateen was responsible for 21 on the 24 points against one of the best defenses in the country. That kind of QB makes things much easier for an OC when the defense takes something away. They have to spy him or get burned on the ground. We’re not the 2001 Canes where we have so much talent at every other position we just need someone to be a game manager. Need a QB that wins games on his own. Mateen at least has shown he can take on the very best defenses in the P4 and find a way to win. Plus he’s got 3 years of eligibility.

We knew with Ward is crazy. We had weeks of 1A/1B bull**** and people trashing Ward. Yall really will revise anything to sell Emory.

You honestly didn't know Ward had experience, and numbers that had proven he could play? Really? Did we know he'd light it up like this? Maybe not. But we all knew he was the starter the second he said he was coming. Why? Because he had years of proven experience.

I am not trying to sell Emory. I am saying that not every highly recruited inexperienced QB is what you hope they are. You need a guy that can run your O, not one that was simply more highly recruited.

If you're hitting the portal for a QB, you look for one with experience first. The more, the better. IF you're going to bring in a highly recruited inexperienced guy, you make him earn the job over the guy that has been here for years. It would all shake out in practice.

We need someone capable of carrying a team. We will still have deficiencies on the OL and unproven pass catchers next year. This will hurt feelings but we are due for another 10-15 portal players next year as well.

Emory needs to beat out the guys on our roster to start. Including who is incoming.

I completely disagree with bringing in an impact QB from the portal, with the roster makeup we have

Thank god Mario isn’t gonna think like this

Kinda alarming there are posters who are perfectly willing to squander a Heisman level performance from Ward and playoff season and take their chances with Emory next year. I’d rather not throw away all the momentum we have on the slight chance Williams isn’t a better version of Rosier.

Yikes

I think 10 is the general target. Our OL should be really good next year, but we will still be in the market for a premium talent.

At WR, I could see us pursuing a true go-to guy to replace Restrepo. If we can add an impact guy, that room becomes very dangerous with Horton, Trader and Carr.

OL will depend on if guys like Rivers and Cooper leave to be Day 3 picks. I see us bringing in at least 2 OL bodies. People here seem to think Arroyo is hungry to go Day 3, so that would be another portal spot.

Arroyo won't go Day 3 unless he gets hurt. He's gone and he might be the best TE in the draft.

Rivers is probably gone. He's in his fifth year. Maybe the injuries force him to come back. I think Cooper stays. That gives us Mauigoa, Cooper, Rodriguez, McCoy and Bell returning. I think we'd want to add a premium name more than a couple bodies.

Brown gonna be one and done?

If Rivers were to come back, any chance he slides to center?

On the topic of proof of concept at QB

I would take Jackson Arnold in a heartbeat, same with lagway but he is only leaving UF if Napier gets fired.

Lagway in top 15 graded for Pass Grade, Big Time Throw Rate, and Turnover Worthy Play Rate (good), is a good signal... so his 1:1 TD:INT rate is likely quite misleading.

Haynes King is a VERY SAFE no negative play type Qb who is playing very well.

Ethan Vasko is a guy that has very good stats as well.
