Proof of Concept at QB

Don’t kill me, just a simple question here.

Any shot Miller Miss enters the portal? Or is he forever tied to Riley? Or is he draft bound?

Genuinely asking as I don’t know much about him

It’ll be interesting

I’m a big Sorsby fan. I may have been the first person to bring him up here not sure but guys like him and Mateer etc great options

But you get an aggressive NIL team like us and a Heisman trophy in the mix and suddenly everyone is in play

weigman has been terrible. i liked what i saw from him against us last year so i began the season paying attention to him as a potentially draftable prospect, and he's been straight garbage. not sure if it's the injury lingering or what, but i would not take a chance on him.
He might not be a good fit for the offense Mike Elko and Colin Klein installed at TAMU.

Moss is in his fourth season and a local kid from the Los Angeles area. Doubt he’d leave unless he goes NFL.

USC has a good offense. No reason to split to improve his draft stock.

Riley is just a corch in a lot of games.

He certainly looked the part.

Quite a connection Miami has developed with Washington State.

Hired away Dennis Erickson, their best coach in a long time up to that point.
They had the late Mike Leach at HC, who a lot of Canes fans idolized.
One of Miami’s all-time worst bowl plays was in a bowl game against Washington State, the infamous halfback option in the snow.
Cam Ward left Washington State for Miami, after Mario flipped him from the NFL.

Let’s go after this guy if he enters the Portal.

Put me in the camp that says Emory Williams will be the starting QB for UM's next national championship team.
I am with you fam. From tidbits that I've read, the coaches have confidence in Williams too. My 2 cents but then again,I always get change back.

Leach also thought of UM has his dream job. Even went so far as to have Donald Trump write a letter of endorsement. So have to respect a guy that has no connections to the U but wanted the job because he understood the potential.

And I’m going to enjoy the downvotes for this- I’d have rather watched a Mike Leach team instead of the Randy Shannon and Al Golden teams. All offense with no defense? Relying on outscoring the opponents because the defense has more holes than Swiss cheese? Hmmmm…. where have I seen that before?

Isn’t our QB room already set w/ Poffenbarger, Williams, Judd. & incoming Nickel?
Yea Right GIF

I don’t want to live in a world where Emory is the starting QB next year.

Mario getting another impact guy is very important or we will undo all the good Cam has done this year
This is where you are wrong.

We recruit QBs for a reason.

If we want to bring in a Portal QB every year, it's a very bad formula.

Emory might not be as dynamic as Cam, but with our defense this year we needed dynamic.

We need to focus on our defensive backfield hands down, and we have recruited there fairly well. Just need to see the development.

If we bring in another impact QB, we are going to slip in QB recruiting, and I would bet on it.

Emory needs to beat out the transfer portal guy to be able to start. Maybe you don’t think he’ll be given that chance? Well Fletcher has started over Martinez so clearly just getting a fat NIL contract doesn’t mean you’re gifted the spot.

Emory needs to beat out the guys on our roster to start. Including who is incoming.

I completely disagree with bringing in an impact QB from the portal, with the roster makeup we have

Notre Dame has taken two transfer QBs and signed a Top 200 guy in 2023, a Top 100 guy in 2024, has a four-star committed this year and another Top 200 guy committed for 2026.

Take a QB each class, but if the right transfer is there, you go and get him and worry about things sorting it out later. But it doesn't mean you can't recruit the position well.

Ok, we're in a better spot than ND.

I don't compare my team to a weaker team

That's not the point I was making, nor was it addressed in your post. You said we'd slip in recruiting if we take another transfer QB; they haven't. Neither did Oklahoma during the Riley years. Examples abound of this not impacting jack.

As for your "weaker team" comment, ND has won 140 games since 2010. We've won 99 over that same period. They've been the better program over the last decade, even with the 2017 result.

You take the guy you think will help you win the most games next year. Transfer or Emory; doesn't matter. It won't impact recruiting either way.
