I don’t think Weigman is it. Think he is a fading 5 star that some of our fans liked because he tore up our **** secondary and also hung tough in the pocket doing it.Keep an eye on this Weigman at Texas AM, he was pulled down big vs LSU for Marcel Reed who rallied the Aggies to a victory. Weigman looked good against in 23. He had a few injuries since but he's someone to keep an eye on.
The goal is to get the best players at every position, not to keep backup level players happy by gifting them starting positions. If the coaches really felt Williams or Anderson were starting quality players, they wouldn’t be trying to get someone from the portal. If those guys want to transfer down a level to get some playing time, I wouldn’t hate them for it. You don’t get a starting job just because you’ve been here a while.UM has to go with home grown QB's. There is a reason they were offered scholarships. Williams and Anderson are the bigger QB's that Mario likes. Nickel is a Berlin type and Coleman may be a King type QB. If UM continues to bring in QB's thru the portal then why would any of these QB's on the roster stick around? Poff should have never came to UM, but he was an option until Mario convinced Ward to sign on the dotted line. I expect Poff to portal after the season.
I think there is enough sample size to see who might be a good fit for transfer qb. I think Drones looks good, his numbers at VT aren’t great but he could definitely up his draft stock with Dawson. Call me crazy but I want a mobile QB.
As for a couple under/off the radar QBs
John Mateer WSU. We would be the bane of WSUs existence stealing another QB but he’s a dual threat who can pass.

Alonza Barnett III
Most underrated IMO. Could have him for 2+ years and he scored 7 TDs against UNC. Needs a little work but Dawson’s offense is QB friendly

What do we think of these guys:
Eli Holstein
Darian Mensah
Kevin Jennings
Chandler Morris
CJ Bailey
In the current NIL environment I wouldn't rule out anyone going anywhereI liked Bailey as a great local pickup. But not as our starter for next season. Jennings is intriguing, would track closely. I haven't watched North Texas or Tulane play and I think the Pitt kid isn't going anywhere.
I rather make it difficult to recruit QBs (seems like it already is) than not have elite WR come to us. We have yet to land that one difference maker at WR.Tough call. If you overuse the portal it will make it difficult to recruit QBs. Goes for all spots. I think you evaluate and make the best decision you can. Fight the instinct that other guys are better than what you have.
Nico isn’t leaving ut they paying that guy a lot of money2025 Portal QB Targets: (maybe I'll try to update near the end of the year...)

I'd probably have Mateer and Sorsby as the top 2 targets as of right now.
I'd still be inclined to take a shot on Weigman as a 5star guy that could be on the move. I'd also take a shot at Nico from UTenn, who doesn't seem like he's getting developed very well over there. Maybe you can sell him on being a 1 yr developement and off to NFL.
Caden Veltcamp is probably worth a look into. Fernando Mendoza is from South Florida, and is having a decently nice season, but his TD rate is super low.... Gio Lopez and sawyer Robertson seem primarily like they do most of their damage on the ground, but are both passing pretty well...
Lastly I'd just say there is basically no reason to go for a "safe" Qb. Unless we are going for a Qb we feel is a potential Heisman/ QB award winner or guy that can be a 1st round type of player that can go out and win us games and a championship, I'd say go with Emory and use that money loading up on WR/DB/DL in portal.
