Proof of Concept at QB

I think 10 is the general target. Our OL should be really good next year, but we will still be in the market for a premium talent.

At WR, I could see us pursuing a true go-to guy to replace Restrepo. If we can add an impact guy, that room becomes very dangerous with Horton, Trader and Carr.

If we're not counting Juco, then 10 VERY GOOD TO GREAT transfers makes a lot of sense to me, as long as they're guys we expect to start or be a key part of the rotation like an Alston. I think we could even get away with 8 if they were the right 8 and we don't lose anyone to the portal we really want to keep. But that's going to be hard in a couple cases (OL and RB). So 10 sounds like a good target.

Saying all that, I think you evaluate the best available at every single position, maybe even use friends & family to nudge some guys into the portal at certain positions. Because you never can tell if other teams might raid our roster like UGA did with Young, or someone is willing to jump ship for more playing time like SMU with Brashard. We CANNOT be caught flat footed like we were with DB last go around.

When Dawson takes the West Virginia head coaching job, things will get interesting.
HC's that are good always have a short list for assistants that leave via promotion, very sure Mario has a potential list of air raid guys on his short list. Only issue is Mario really takes his time on hires....... but sharp QB's want to see the same Offense that Dawson is running and Mario will find the guy

Need an experienced guy with multiple years of experience. One of the biggest plus factors of Cam , beside his arm, is his experience reading the field and knowing where to go with the ball. That comes with experience- we have the young guys already

Maybe this is a hot take: but someone like a Cam Ward coming in was already a proven commodity & had time actually playing... Bringing in people just because they have potential would be a mistake imo.... bring in someone else that has already done it & we know they are good, just looking for the next step.... we have plenty of projects already.
Exactly how I feel.

Trading up with Cam was a given.

We were in a bad spot.

I don't disagree when it comes to trading up, but in a day in age where you need to be able to recruit your own roster, the transfer portal, as well as high school athletes...I'd say we're in a good spot with QBs.

We need to focus on maintaining depth and we do not have that in our defensive backfield, or the WR group.

A portal QB shouldn't be high priority.
I agree, unless we find someone we know will be an instant upgrade and a premier player. People bring up Drones, Mateer, Mendoza, etc. Not one of them is a sure fire, starter-worthy player. They are all gambles similar to last year when we didn't think we were getting Cam and were debating Malik Murphy, Ukelele, Will Rogers, KJ Jefferson, etc. I would not take any of them over letting Emory play and develop.

I agree all of those players with a year of starts are gambles and Emory is a sure thing. You guys are toxic.

That’s a hard no. They’re still running splits that Angelina Jolie couldn’t fit through (today’s anorexic version not Tomb Raider version).

Arroyo won't go Day 3 unless he gets hurt. He's gone and he might be the best TE in the draft.

Rivers is probably gone. He's in his fifth year. Maybe the injuries force him to come back. I think Cooper stays. That gives us Mauigoa, Cooper, Rodriguez, McCoy and Bell returning. I think we'd want to add a premium name more than a couple bodies.

I love Arroyo but he's no where close to the best TE in the draft.

Who trashed Ward?
Multiple threads were started during the first half of the VT/Cal games about how overrated and ****** he is. I know that’s not what Cway is referring too and he’s more referring to when it was between Ward and Howard and the debate about which we want.

We knew with Ward is crazy. We had weeks of 1A/1B bull**** and people trashing Ward. Yall really will revise anything to sell Emory.

Shockingly, this is a fairly accurate statement. There was certainly a lot of debate.

I felt that Ward was the best overall choice, though I had concerns with his fumbles and his decision timeline. Both of which worked out well for Miami.

I also think that McCord or Howard could have done well at Miami, though not at the record-setting-pace of Ward.

And I really like and support Emory, but I think we need to go out and try to get the best approximation of Ward that we can land from the Portal.
