Proof of Concept at QB

The NFL doesn’t scout box scores. He’s been very productive now that he’s healthy.

The medical is important, but he looks fresh out there.
That may be true, but production is still miniscule to be considered the top TE. He may be the most athletic, but 1st round talk is insane. Harold Fanin is the top TE.

Again, I love Arroyo. But right now he's not on anyone's draft board as the #1 tight end. He has 16 catches on the year.

This board tends to overrank Canes players. ****, people had Zion Nelson as a Top 10 pick a few years back, and Brevin Jordan being the first TE taken off the board.

Arroyo is a nice player but he's not the #1 tight end on anyone's board at the moment.
We create our own monsters.

Yeah I think 1st round talk for Arroyo is wild.... the majority of our players/team that can needs to come back for another year imo.... They need to see Cam as an example of turning a day 2/3 pick into a Day 1/early day 2... Arroyo, rivers, etc... I want to include damien but i also want to see our rb room develop & another year of fletch/dame would be death to the younger guys/portals outbound

Back to the QB discussion…

John Mateer—definitely looks like a good option on film. Would be great if Wazzu could just become Miami’s QB farm system. If they get another Ryan Leaf, we’ll be right there to snatch him up.

Darian Mensah—how high is his IQ? With a name like that, I’m only taking him if he literally is a genius. Too risky otherwise.

Alonza Barnett—not thrilled with the feminine spelling of “Alonzo.” I have no idea why his parents would do that. Definite red flag.

DJ Lagway—the question is whether or not the Crocs are willing to tank their future just to hang on to him. Will they fire Billy? Or will they keep Billy so Lagway doesn’t bolt? And if Lagway stays because Billy stays, then what does that say about Lagway?

Arroyo also hasn't shown that he can consistently make contested catches. I'm not saying he can't but most of his catches on the year are schemed up.

Those are not credible sites. They do a good job of compiling information but they’re just fans like us.

Jim Nagy is a real NFL guy, head of the Senior Bowl. He has a big budget to scout the nation with professional evaluators. He says Arroyo is in the mix for TE1.

Louis Riddick is a former NFL exec who is still getting interviews for league jobs. He says first rounder.

I’m not saying they are right. Nobody really knows. But this isn’t a fan-driven opinion.

I’ve seen nothing to make me believe Emory will be great. Here’s to hoping so.

I’d love to have Mateer next year. He’s not Ward, but I love his toughness and playmaking mindset.
From now on I want only mobile QBs. If they play isn't there it's vital we have someone than can make something out of nothing

100% exactly what I meant when I posted. It's the reverse of seeing 7-9 men stacked in the box, which dictates pass. I'm with you thinking Norvell did this to keep the beat down minimized. Most coaches would've started creeping the safeties, then boom, long TD pass. They never did that so we kept handing it off.
For some of our "fans" though, it's a sign that our passing game is failing.
Those same fans cried about the running game when we passed the ball instead of running into 8 man fronts.

If a defense makes one thing really easy for you, you do that one thing until they make an attempt to stop it.

Happy to place a friendly wager that Arroyo doesn't go first round in 2025 (if he doesn't come back). Injury history, lack of production, better guys ahead of him having more productive seasons.

The names mentioned have only done anything because they've had more playing time. So is the plan now to show QB recruits that they will never have a shot because we'll portal someone in over them simply because they already have experience?
This is an awful take. Do you really think a 4 or 5 star high school recruit is going to have second thoughts about coming to Miami because Emory Williams, a 3 star with 4 career TDs to his name is being recruited over in the portal?

I don’t know if he goes first. That’s tough for any tight end. I do believe he will go Day 2 at worst and be in the discussion for the top tight end.

I’d bet (in terms of days not rounds):

Day 1

Cam Ward

Day 2

Elijah Arroyo
Tyler Baron (unless he is deemed unreliable after the transfers)

Day 3 with a chance to be Day 2

Xavier Restrepo
Sam Brown
Akheem Mesidor
Jalen Rivers
Simeon Barrow

Day 3

Kiko Mauigoa
Damien Martinez
Jacolby George

UDFA with a chance to be drafted Day 3

Elijah Alston
Meesh Powell
Andres Borregales
