Proof of Concept at QB

I’m shocked that no one has mentioned Quinn Ewers. Injuries have opened the door to Arch Manning making a strong push while simultaneously Quinn’s draft stock has fallen.

If Quinn’s draft grade isn’t where he wants it he very well could be in the portal. If that’s the case, he’d be looking to do exactly what cam is doing.

I don’t know if he goes first. That’s tough for any tight end. I do believe he will go Day 2 at worst and be in the discussion for the top tight end.

I’d bet (in terms of days not rounds):

Day 1

Cam Ward

Day 2

Elijah Arroyo
Tyler Baron (unless he is deemed unreliable after the transfers)

Day 3 with a chance to be Day 2

Xavier Restrepo
Sam Brown
Akheem Mesidor
Jalen Rivers
Simeon Barrow

Day 3

Kiko Mauigoa
Damien Martinez
Jacolby George

UDFA with a chance to be drafted Day 3

Elijah Alston
Meesh Powell
Andres Borregales
If kiko gets drafted its a miracle lol..also mesidor should comeback i think his stock has fallen a bit.

I think arroyo should comeback as well, he could be one of the top targeted guys next year for us.

Only 25 tight ends have went first round since 2000 so thats completely unrealistic for arroyo production, and injury history. I think he would have a much higher draft stock if he has a great year next year as a vocal point of the offense and if he can stay healthy for a consecutive year

Regarding Arroyo..Alot of ball left to play. Not going to make a prediction either way around where he gets drafted just yet because a TE like him can have 1 or 2 great games in the ACC title game or the CFP and hes on everyones radar with a quickness... OJ Howard didnt have great stats at Bama but he had a few really good games on national TV and transformed himself into a 1st round pick. Arroyo definitely has the hands and physical tools to be a Day 1 pick. We will see. We will need him when we start playing the big boys.

Regarding the topic..not sure who we are looking at but definitely agree that bringing in a top flight QB should be priority #1. We are bringing back some really great skill position guys next year and dont want to waste it. And the OL will be top notch too.

I think 10 is the general target. Our OL should be really good next year, but we will still be in the market for a premium talent.

At WR, I could see us pursuing a true go-to guy to replace Restrepo. If we can add an impact guy, that room becomes very dangerous with Horton, Trader and Carr.
Do you foresee Anez Cooper coming back for his Senior year? Wouldn't be a bad starting point to return Mauigua, Cooper, McCoy and Bell...still think they need a portal guy though unless Okunlola flips a switch

The proof of concept changes when Dawson leaves to take a G5 HC job this offseason. Hopefully this season was an eye opener for Mario and he sticks with a pass first offense and not reverts back to his old ways.

i dont know what is going on with WV, but i would hope that both Dawson and Guidry stick around one more year to see this cycle out. if this year is good, next year could be better.
His agent knows Dawson's stock is as high as it has ever been. West Virginia is 4-4. HC has had time to turn it around, but the fanbase wants him out. Low buyout. IMO Unless he runs the table, he is out.

Dawson still has strong relationships and left WV on good terms. Very similar to the Lashlee SMU hire.

Ewars is projected to be a 1st round pick right now. I haven't seen a new mock draft with him any lower, but would love to see a recent link or article if you find one.

Ewers isn't in the 1st RD...

Ewers isn't in the 1st RD...

Still in the first round of a lot of mocks. I personally don’t see it, and don’t really want him here, either.

Man Ewers that high is a risk to me. He isn’t coming here so it doesn’t matter but I wouldn’t take him that high. This QB class is going to be really tough evals because Shadeur, Cam, Quinn, Beck I’m not sold any of the four can be an elite QB in the NFL. Especially since they’ll be going to **** places.

if Ewers is very good, then it is a good thing that he isn't in the first round. same situation as Cam. come to miami, we will elevate you to the first round.

Mensah is def a guy who can sling it. He’s a freshman so he could stick around for 2 to 3 years. With improved talent he could be even better. Doesn’t put the ball in harms way. Can move enough when things break down
