I wouldn't be shocked if he transferred, but most likely if he did it would be Texas A&M. But the program should definitely be reaching out to him to see what happens

Mario has proven he is capable of both. Lots of his recruits are starting next to lots of his portal adds. Why should QB be any different.

I can’t emphasize enough that fans need to watch Chase Daniel’s analysis. Duke’s D was actually playing extremely well. There weren’t many wide open college throws because the WRs are NFL starting caliber like when 2019 LSU had. Many of Wards throws are only “NFL open.” For nearly all QBs in cfb (Gabriel included) those are INTs, or at best, incompletions. This is not a plug and play offense where you could just put any half decent QB in. There is no chance Williams can run this offense anywhere close to how Ward does. Can Dawson design an offense around a less talented QB? Maybe. But I don’t think we will be a championship caliber team because the WRs aren’t at that level.

I still think we beat Duke. We’d probably be 6-3 or 7-2 rn, end up 8-4 or 9-3. Incremental improvements.

Ward puts us in a totally different stratosphere though. We’re legitimately as much a favorite to make the championship game as anyone if you look seriously at the Top 12 teams.

The only way we sustain that going into 2025 is with either a massive upgrade on defense or another Top 5 QB, or some combination that comes close. I think we’re going to struggle to find enough talent at enough positions to scaffold an Emory-led team to playoff victories. I also don’t think there’s another Ward out there TBH. The guy is just too special. But a guy like the SMU or UF QB would go a long way, if they were to hit the portal and look our way.

Mateer is the closest we will get to replacing Ward.



Look at the ball placement. Has an easy throwing motion. And he runs better than Ward.

I don’t think there is any chance Lagway leaves UF. He is all in.

Even if he was available, I’d still take Mateer. I think he’s the more proven QB. We’ve seen too many times that a young QB looks electric, but then once DCs get enough film they know how to shut him down.

Look if another cam ward is available go with it… but we don’t need stop gaps like Poff or a Marley cook type of fill in at QB. I think Emory is a very capable QB who can win 10 games here with the supporting cast and Oline he is gonna have

But again if a stud 1st round talent wants to come here well it’s an easy decision to take them

I have to defer to more knowledgeable guys like you on this. I considered Howard a 1b to Ward as 1a. Howard isn't in Ward's gravitational pull, much less his 1b. ... I'm just saying we need to hunt for a Top 5 QB (ideally a #1 generational guy like Ward) because the rest of our operation is not championship level yet, especially the defense.

Look around cfb. There isn’t another ward out there. Qb play around cfb is actually down this year. I don’t really see any elite qbs. And I think fans are going to have to understand that. Whoever they bring in will have question marks and flaws

Yeah, I definitely don't expect another Ward. Guy is truly special. But there's a lot of space between Emory and Ward. Are you telling me there's no one better than Emory? That doesn't seem plausible to me.

lol no I’m not saying that. What I’m saying is this fan base is going to be expecting elite qb transfer when there isn’t an elite qb out there. As of right now a few qbs who look like could be in the portal is moss, Weigman, and stone. I guaranteed majority of the fans would say no to all those guys

As we have seen, if your QB goes down aka FSU last year, and you don’t have a competent back up, it WILL be held against you

Seeing how many injuries across the country to QBs, having a competent backup is vital especially with the expanded playoffs where more teams have an opportunity in playing in it

FSU and UF went in to this year without quality back up QB depth, Miami can’t make that same mistake…Poff is not a competent back up at this level

Texas saved their season because they had Arch Manning
