Poor choice of words...

Golden is right, anything that interferes with practice is a distraction to practice/football. Football is a distraction to class as well. Big to do about nothing. Most coaches would have avoided that slip. Just unlucky.

Like it or not, this isn't your father's "Sun Tan U" anymore.

Al needs to come out an apologize to Mr. Schmitt.

WOW ill pray for some of you guys.

UM is one of the top ACADEMIC institutions in the country, shame on you guys putting your own personal feelings ahead of these kids chances to make something better of themselves with a college education.

Getting our asses handed to us by Duke on the field is one thing, but we've worked far too long to establish our academic creds for Golden to **** it all away with one irresponsible moment. Donna needs to get a statement out pronto to limit any further damage. Dammit! Seems when we finally turn the corner, we shoot ourselves in the foot, again and again!

LOL...talk about blowing something WAY out of proportion! It's not like Al took the job last week and we don't already know what he stands for. He is the epitome of a leader and has done tremendous things for the U. All he needs to do now is win more games on the field. You need to relax my friend.

I'm just hoping this isn't the beginning of a "win-at-all costs" mentality, spurred on by lack of production on the field. Again, Donna has done a great job rehabbing our image and I really don't want to see it tarnished.

This school is closer to Bama than it is Duke academically. This is the U, and I'm not ashamed of what it was like some of you are. GTFOH with this high brow ******ry.

Lol at people making this one comment a big deal.. Read this article..

Golden is alllll about kids taking care of their work in the classroom. Until ish like that ^^^^^ is going on I'm not concerned.

I don't recall seeing FSU in the top 50. The voters at US News take this kind of stuff very seriously.

Well that doesn't stop them from ranking UNC ahead of us every year and last time I checked their athletes don't even attend class. Point being people are blowing this out of proportion.

Name a time in Goldens tenure here where anything has been mentioned about our student athletes having classroom issues or our graduation rate being a problem.

One interview slip up compared to 100 others interviews where he mentions how our student athletes have to take care of their classwork.

This isnt 1983, how many kids do we put into the league now a days? A college education is infinitely more beneficial than 4 yrs of lifting weights and running.

The people in this thread that are trashing the whistle-blowing faculty member obviously do not have UM degrees and have no stake in whether they get tarnished or not.

But they wouldn't be here if it wasn't for lifting and running. The majority of these kids are here bc of football. These players are old enough to father children and serve in the military; if they chose to forgo academics in pursuit of their dream, I say go for it; that's inherently american.

Nobody forced these kids to be D1 footballers. Al Goldens job is TO WIN GAMES. This isn't some social welfare experiment.

It doesnt matter if they lift a house or run faster than a car, no grades....no scholly. How many times we lost kids to grades? So saying grades play no issue before running or lifting is just asinine.

It always comes down to grades first, then everything else is extra.

I hope you put more emphasis on academics with your children than you do to these guys.

Good Lord what a non story. This teams academic standing speaks for itself and if there's one thing AG does right, it's getting things right in the class room.

I will probably get attacked for saying this, but usually when a coach says something like this it means that there's more stories to come and this is a way in which they can address it before those stories get out. Not saying that Golden is doing this but it's something to keep in mind.

Chumming the waters, and I took the bait. Curses, whoopingcane. You'll one day be in cuffs outside Heater's window.
