It's a really stupid thing to ***** about. Obviously Golden didn't mean what the dip**** professor's trying to make it sound like he meant. Is there any doubt that the prof is some whiny dbag academic who spends his life looking for **** like this to get attention?

Thats horrible if true Al said this

Check the video I posted above his comment lol :). It can be taken a number of different ways but I dont think it was meant the way the article portrayed it.
:ohlord:

WOW

These guys come to earn a degree and play football. 99% of them will never make the NFL and all they have is their degrees to fall back on. Donna should be livid right now, this is embarrassing. Whats next, we gonna have people taking the tests for them??

Agreed, but you are forgetting:

Al cares too much about academics -- I hate Al.

Al says classes are a distraction -- I hate Al.

Pretty much a laugher when our friends visit to defend an English teacher over the football coach.

Popcorn is heating up.

Dbag or not, Al needs to watch what he's saying. The last thing we need is another major controversy.

Gigantic, total overreaction, and obviously manufactured posturing that what, - Golden is anti-class, anti-media? Holy crap. He prefaced it by saying coaches are addicts to the pursuit of practice and team prep. He's probably thinking Yearby had a class conflict and had to leave to get it resolved (misses practice), the media interview schedules are a nuisance (yet obligatory..with repetitively dumb ***, questions) that take player and coach prep time, etc., you know, every day stuff that adds up. So yes in that context it's distracting.

I am definitely sure he is anti injury though. Yet, some folks may find fault it that too. Holy sh*t this season can't start soon enough.

Al didn't mean that "classes themselves" were distractions. He meant that the classroom "could become" a distraction if players aren't doing what they need to do.

This Professor took his quote way out of context.

Yup, I'm pretty sure Al understands the importance of his players keeping up with their studies. Even if one cynically accepts the notion that he tolerates the school only as a vehicle for his football team, because student athletes must remain scholastically eligible. Coach knows this ain't a school where they get degrees for "football appreciation."

Exactly...grasping at straws here. Making a ******* mountain out of a mole hill.

Tell that to the chancellor at UNC.

Classes are distraction from football, just as football is a distraction from classes.... Doesn't mean that classes aren't important!!! Seriously, since Golden has been here the man has always done the right thing by the University and the Players.... If you want to question some of his coaching calls go ahead, but don't take something so small as a bad quote and "make a mountain out of a mole hill"....

I don't think so. He lumped classes, the media and guys getting injured together as distractions. It's hard to defend Al in this case.

Alot of hypocrites on here. Lets not pretend like football is the #1 concern for most on this board AND Al Golden. If a kid gets his work done..all the better. If we gave a **** about a kids classroom merits or whether they were a stand up citizen, Randy Shannon would still be the coach. But hes not and the reason is because he wasnt paid to be an extension of the academic dept. He was paid to win football games by any means. Al cant say that but dammit I will..

Yep. As most of you know, I've been one of Golden's biggest defenders with our teams on-field performances but if this is his mindset with regards to the classroom, there needs to be some serious discussions about what's important for him as a football coach of our student athletes.
