Patrick Surtain jr.

Man y'all are weak with this recruiting ****.

There is legit interest from Surtain, always have been but he wanted to wait to see the direction Miami is going first.

Makes no sense. Why would he wait on seeing what direction Miami goes in? They’ve been going in a positive direction since last year. Wouldn’t the same logic apply to LSU? Wouldn’t he be waiting and seeing how far down LSU goes this year? Why is Miami being held to a different standard especially compared to a program whose coach is an ape-like buffoon?

Because maybe it's a lifetime decision for him? Also Alabama, LSU, and UGA all have the same depth issues as Miami. I think Florida State, Same with Ohio State and Clemson

I'm all for stacking chips and getting both Campbell and Surtain Jr. but are we really going to bring in 7 DBS in this class?
I would love them both in this class.
Would we lose someone?
Aren't we only losing Dee next year unless something crazy happens?

Dee and possibly JJ (hope not). We have zero depth. 2018 kids will play early and often.

The difference is LSU churns out 1st round secondary players like nobodies business. They had an awful season last year and still sent 2 more to the first round this past draft.. White and Adams. You cant argue with Corey Raymonds results when it comes to sending DBs to the league and to the 1st round no less. Its insane. Any big time DB would look at LSU especially if there is slight pressure from the family too.

Waiting for that grand day when Rumph will have that same resume. Will come sooner then we all thought it would.

We have a pretty large cliff at safeties. After JJ and Redwine, it's just Carter. If we had Jobe or Hall, I'm not even sure Redwine is playing. Our corners rotate a lot, so I'm sure we will be okay with playing time. Plus, if they are that good they will get burn.

we bring in 6 or 7 dbs I expect a few of our others to transfer out as they get knocked down in the rotation

Our depth in the secondary is bad in terms of numbers. Quality's good, but you have to account for injuries. Pete mentioned in this thread or another that the staff may be switching to a 4-2-5, which would explain the numbers we'd likely bring in. We also will lose JJ and Redwine after next season as well.

Recruit positional excellence. Recruit athletic excellence. The best will find a way on to the field.

Ballhawk, who’s gonna transfer? We really don’t have anyone at db on the roster who isn’t balling and who isn’t or won’t be a Sr anyway. Don’t think we really lose anyone to transfer.

And we take 6-7 b/c we’re short numbers and there happens to be a ton of 4-5 stars in our backyard who want to come. Just gotta make sure we space them out a little. A couple of them need to rs next year for a little spacing.

Gentlemen, Surtain is a pipe dream. The only DB we should truly be concerned w is Mr Campbell. If Surtain comes, he comes, but let's be honest, none of us really thought we had a legit shot at Surtain. If he signs elsewhere, I won't lose sleep. But if T.C go somewhere else, I will lose sleep, no lie.

TIFWIW Ivins believes there’s significant interest and he’s the one that heard the word and made the article. He also mentions that he didn’t ask him about going to another game, he just told him he was.

Just hypothetically speaking..... IF Surtain and Campbell both want in, we take both correct?

Of course you do but why in their right minds would both want in? I just don't see it. With the guys already committed, why would both of these guys come here just to potentially ride the bench for a couple of years when they could go somewhere else and play right away? I know about stacking chips and all that but these guys are going to do what's best for each of them and if that's not coming here, I can accept that. We're not getting all of the DBs in South Florida.

They’ll be playing next year in the 2 deep...those two ain’t riding the bench.

Not saying they will but I wouldn't be surprised if knowles and/or finley transfer. Plus the talk of JJ possibly going pro.

We’re giving up on Finley already? I don’t know enough to say he’ll never be a player here. Knowles is guess is a possibility.
I think jj stays and racks up some awards. Just not quite ready yet.

RS one or two for next year.. Knowles than Johnson , Jackson and Dean might leave out early.

If we bring in 6, 2-3 need to redshirt for spacing. Jean? Where’s he going? He’ll be a Sr. He isn’t transferring. I think Jackson and Johnson stay. Not sure either is ready to go in 1st 2 rounds and I think richt changes the culture a little here to get them to buy into a “run”. If they are 1st rounders, early 2nd, he’ll encourage guys like Mcintosh to go.
