Patrick Surtain jr.

Very weird recruitment especially being he is a local kid. For the better part of 2 years this seemed to almost completely ignore Miami. Kind of like most kids from AH. Obviously while Rumph was there he didn't want his kids to come here. Rumors were that he basically talked **** about UM while Golden was here. I wonder if that had a lasting impression on many kids at AH. Something like that or Surtain Sr has his hand out. Just a really odd recruitment.

surtain sr is rich..they aint hurting for money

I have to laugh when I see these people making statements that Pat might need money or has his hand out. Pat rented to clubhouse and pool in an upscale community to have a pool party for the AH team prior to the season. I'm thinking he wouldn't do things like that if he was hurting for money.

yea i dont get it. Surtain sr is the equivalent of a kid from Miami that was a fan of the canes that went to FIU (Southern Miss) and made it to the league. His son becomes a top recruit and the team he always loved has offered so of course his kid has interest at LSU. Its essentially dad's home school. But i tell u what u sign up chat and campbell...that pressure on him to go to the u if we make this playofss will be SKY HIGH.

If you think about how pathetic the Miami Dolphins drafts have been over the last 30 years, you'll remember that the Dolphins management had a very strong anti-UM bias in their drafts. They simply refused to draft Canes for many years.

Now look at the children of the Dolphins who played HS ball in South Florida. Very little interest in the Canes either. The Bosa family is a good example. They refused to allow UM coaches to recruit their kids. Only wanted their kids to be recruited by Big 10 schools, which is where John Bosa (the father) is from. Same with Patrick Surtain Jr. He seems to be showing a preference to schools in the area where his father is from.

John Bosa grew up in New Hampshire and played college football at BC with Doug Flutie. John married Eric Kumerow's sister. Kumerow went to *

Easy to understand. Once we won the first NC the Dolphins became the "other" team in South Florida. Little hard to take for an organization that claims the only prefect season in NFL history. The jealousy is clear and probably manifested itself in the drafts. Heck, old man Robbie had a chance to sign The Mad Stork and refuse, saying he was washed up. Ted went in Oakland instead and had some fairly good, All Pro type good, years there.

No whats crazy to Those Edmunds bros from Va Tech's dad played for the Dolphins to. I **** sure would take those kids on my team. 1 in the league already, and 2 on their way now from Va Tech

Whoa whoa whoa...at the time Surtain was at usm they were nowhere near fiu level.

Pat Surtain Sr.'s best years with the Dolphins were 99 - 04. The Canes were the talk of the town in most of those years.

Good God that is a stretch.

Sounds like he’s trying to be polite to the local team but doesn’t have the interest.

A lot of work is still left to be done to get him. Said he isnt ready to put miami in his top schools but will give them a hard look going forward. Its good if he does come this weekend too.

He’s either trolling to build suspense or truly has no interest in UM. There’s no way you get this deep in the process with the local school if you have actual interest and still can’t put us in your top schools that includes a team 3,000 miles away like Southern California.

I’m calling some sort of bullshyt here. We’re either not recruiting him all that hard, he’s trolling to build suspense, or he’s got virtually zero interest in UM.

I agree with you Franchise. I think he's luke-warm to us. There is always a chance we'll get him, but I really don't think we will.

Most likely, he'll go LSU. *shrugs*

This dude just said we might make his top 5 a month before signing day. He’s either fcking around wasting our time, we’re not even trying to pitch him, or he’s messing with reporters to build suspense.

Otherwise, if he’s telling the truth, and if we have been recruiting him hard, then it’s tine to move on. Too late in the process to be wasting time with a local guy who might even have us in his top 5.

but its not really a waste.
I mean we have all but maybe 6 spots locked up, and most of the commits will sign in December.

So not sure when Surtain will be signing, but I mean its not like we have to invest soo much time in other recruits that we cant afford to also recruit Surtain. Theres no downside to recruiting him.

Exactly! I don't see how some could say he doesn't have interest in us. His parents went to VT(not sure if he was there or not), he went to the nd game, now showing up for a noon uva game. His presumable top two teams fsu and lsu are straight trash. The dude sees what is happening in Miami and is checking it out.

TIFWIW Ivins believes there’s significant interest and he’s the one that heard the word and made the article. He also mentions that he didn’t ask him about going to another game, he just told him he was.

Just hypothetically speaking..... IF Surtain and Campbell both want in, we take both correct?

Of course you do but why in their right minds would both want in? I just don't see it. With the guys already committed, why would both of these guys come here just to potentially ride the bench for a couple of years when they could go somewhere else and play right away? I know about stacking chips and all that but these guys are going to do what's best for each of them and if that's not coming here, I can accept that. We're not getting all of the DBs in South Florida.

Campbell and surtain will not sit the bench they would both get burn as a frosh. The other DBs in the class not named jobe would most likely have to wait a year or two.

Hall will play too. He should be a 5 star. But they both will get pt as freshman. We start blowing teams out again next year. Theyl be finishing the 2nd halves for us

Man y'all are weak with this recruiting ****.

There is legit interest from Surtain, always have been but he wanted to wait to see the direction Miami is going first.

Haha its clearly against the rules big guy. Sssshhhhhhhhhhhh

Hiring a recruit's dad to an on-field staff position (CB coach in this case) is not against the rules. The rule now is that you can't hire a coach on your staff (offensive/defensive analyst front office positions) that's from a HS where you've signed a recruit X amount of years (I believe 2 is the number, but not sure). In this case, Orgeron probably has a DB coach position waiting for Surtain Sr.; which is within the rules.

Well correct me if I'm wrong, but Sr is a coach on the team for Jr, therefor making it against the rules.

Not sure if it is, Michael Porter Sr. is a coach for Mizzou.... MPJ and Jontay Porter are both on the team.

He went college to college, the rule is if you coach the person in high school, a college can't hire them after any of their players sign with said college.

Never thought about that.
