Are you familiar with Tropical Park 5 miles from Campus?

Plenty of room.

Make it happen.

It's also located adjacent to 2 major highways.

Stop the excuse making and start lobbying to better this university.

read again what i said. i specifically mentioned tropical park being the only viable place.

Who is going to pay for it? You? Tax payers? Why would they do that? It would only be used occassionally. FIU has its own stadium. Dolphins wont play there. It would be useless for 1/2 of the year. Waste of space and money.

thank you. hegmon clearly doenst live in miami. i am not bout to see miami dade cut more county workers pay (my dad works for the county), benefits, and jobs bc of a stupid stadium. i would love one but i dont want more money going into a stadium when dade county has other needs it needs to tend to

I lived there for the past two years getting my Masters at UM and have lived in South Florida outside of my service in the Navy for my entire life.

Spare me the excuses. As if politicians in Miami Dade county can't be "coerced" into doing something.

Who said I wanted tax payers to pay for it entirely? It wouldn't be used? Please stop making assinine excuses.

You're part of the overall problem with this fanbase.

Excuse ridden, beaten down and unwilling to change for the better. I can't wait until real leadership is at the helm of our athletic program.

What did Eichorst actually do while he was here? Dude was invisible.

hired larranaga, locked up golden until 2020, navigated us as far as we've gotten with the investigation while not having any leaks in over a year. pretty impressive.

And there you have it.

LOL

That guy literally did nothing and bailed because the melinin in his skin wasn't used to diversity.

True, and he made himself available to the media for questions more times than Donna did. Once.

donna is visible around campus lol. i saw her almost everyday when i was at UM. used to always eat at the rat for lunch. bergeron (musicology prof) would be at the rat on thursdays from time to time lol

hiring a great basketball coach and preventing our football coach from bailing is nothing? tough crowd.

so your military experience (that i do respect) and higher education at um have taught you that "coercing" politicians is the right idea? that's pretty f'ing terrible.

Larranaga seems to be a good hire.

Giving Golden an extension until 2075 after going 6-6? Really? Don't get me wrong I love Golden but you do realize the Sherminator left and notified Shalala via PHONE after missing numerous commitments?

The Sherminator was a total coward.

Hire a MIAMI GUY.....I'm not talking someone with no experience but there's gotta be better guys than the Wisconsin bred douchebags who've bailed on us when times get tough the instant something "better" comes around.

The reality is (lord knows you think Miami sucks DB across the board) you can win here EASILY with the right coach. Find someone who actually buys into our school and supports it. We haven't had that in decades.

Anyone that says they should fire Shalala does not, or will not, hold a degree from the University of Miami. Regardless of whether or not you think she's been good for our football program, she has done wonders for our academic standing.

I hold two degrees from my UofM and my son attends UofM, brothers attended as did my mother.

Donna has been equal parts great/terrible for Miami. Personally I do not like her deceitful approaches to accomplishing her goals. She gets great credit for driving the tremendously successful fund raising efforts. I'm of the belief that Miami's academic rise was well under way prior to her arrival. Her public leadership has been humiliating on several fronts and her inability to grasp and understand business concepts nor heed warnings from those who do work in that sector have resulted in major financial failings during a time when UofM should be benefiting from her fundraising efforts to which I do give her great credit.

I believe that her time at UofM has run its course and it is time for a different type of leader to guide UM forward and perhaps take us in a different direction....equally positive to the one she took us in.

I've not appreciated her lies to our alumni and naive student body community. They younger UM grads and students seem to love her, she did a great job of building a relationship with them. They don't see the long term big picture though. Shaking hands, taking pictures and arriving at your tailgate is what a politician does. She is certainly blood there to those that are quick to be star struck.

Donna is powerful. At times she has abused that power and taken positions she shouldn't have taken.

Have you ever tried to challenge Donna in conversation? Challenge her on a University topic in a very civil and cordial way the way an alum should be able to engage leadership within his or her alma mater? Let's just say that Donna has one view point, Donna's. Don't challenge it or she will quickly drop her political smile and become very short with you, no pun intended.

Change is healthy.

This.

Time for the Troll to go back to her cave.

Yes I'm vitriolic. I'm tired of the bull**** swirling around this program and she's been at the head of it.

do you even know who our previous athletic directors were? sam jankovic was only here for 7 years. paul dee already worked for the university and had already decided to stay here when he got hired as athletic director and salary wasn't an issue for him (i know because i spoke to him about it).

and you're telling me that if there was a lot of crap happening at your place of work and someone offered you a job for almost twice the money at a place where you would have more flexibility and freedom, you wouldn't take it?

i agree, we need someone who buys into miami, but from what i can tell, the only people would be someone like tony hernandez.

i respect you for your service but do not agree w on this stadium issue. the park is a public park. the school would have to purchase the land from dade county. the school will not fund the entire thing and w the financial situation of the marlins park the city will not fund it. period. who else is going to pay for it if not tax payers. someone will have to help the university. so stop just because u were not affected by the marlins park situation doesnt mean everyone else wasnt either. i live in miami-dade county and feel the effects of marlins park. the county will be paying off that thing till 2038 according to gimenez. u provide a place that everyone knows would be nice to use as a stadium but no method to paying for it other than attacking everyone else for their opinion. i went to UM, was born n raised in miami and i loved the OB want a stadium as bad as everyone else but i know realistically it isnt possible right now. especially since we would have to pay the dolphins some kind of fee to terminate the lease

What planet do you live on?

Are you familiar with lobbyist's or do you honestly live in the twilight zone and think they're all clean?

I'm not saying pay them off, but to say we've ENGAGED THEM AT ALL is laughable at best.

having a politician even propose building a new stadium within 40 miles of miami-dade country would be political suicide. the only people that want a new stadium for the canes are miami fans. i do want a new stadium and i want that more than anything, but the fact is that it's not realistic at this juncture. if it wasn't for jeffrey loria, we would have an outside shot at it, but the marlins' park fiasco has torpedoed any possibility of new construction any time soon.

Donna has done a lot of good things for this University...but at some point, the lady at the top needs to be held accountable for the state of the athletic department and the culture that was allowed to fester under her watch. It may have been other people's fault...but she's the one in charge.

THANK YOU. it seems that hegemon is the only one that didnt see what happened last week w the marlins fiasco. you really think anything even related to a stadium will be built. **** no not now not for another 40 years which is when the marlins park will be paid off and the county will have it off their books. also a new stadium will not be the reason we win or lose. its the players on the field that will decide. the 01 canes didnt win bc of the OB they won bc the team was amazing. we were losing in the OB too after the 01 title. we havent won 10 games since 03 and we played in the oB till 07. so whats the excuse there? i remember in 05 they used temp lights for the gt game and moved everyone from teh upper bowl to the lower bowl against uNC when we wore those ND lookalike unis

Lemme ask you something and please be honest.

Do you think anyone....

ANYONE at the University of Miami has even tried, really tried, to get a grassroots movement in the fanbase going regarding this?

They haven't.

Absolutely haven't.

I sat with the heads of UM's fundraising effort and listened to them describe what they do to raise funds and I know without a shadow of a doubt they've done absolutely nothing in this regard for a stadium.

It's an absolute travesty of epic proportions.

LOL don't even get me started on the Marlins....

Worst organization in sports and yes I wholeheartedly agree there's no way in **** the taxpayers are going to sign off on a stadium solo.

HOWEVER....

Miami has a spokesman (Golden...probably his best attribute) capable of rallying support if he was allowed to and supported from within.

alonzo highsmith is trying his own campaign for a stadium. but it doesnt matter anymore. you have to understand that fact. it will not happen unless UM can come up w 400 million or so (whatever it costs to build a stadium nowadays). the county will not help the school build a stadium at all. it will destroy their political career as someone said above. if u want to blame someone blame FIU who backed out of the tropical park stadium to build their own (donna did try trop park if u didnt know and fiu dropped out) and also blame loria and samson who scammed the county for a stadium

support isnt the problem. its MONEY! and ive donated every year to UM since i graduated. hurricane club donations w my alumni tickets and another donation to the school separate from that. do you? i go to at least one road game out of state a year along w the home games. i go to grad school outside of miami and still drive down 400 miles each way every sat for a game. went to chicago this year, maryland last year and all the in state aways, and went to OSU the year before. spentt a ton of money on this school outside of tuition.

1. Until we stop the culture of making excuses for why we can't succeed, we won't. Whether true or not, the bar needs to be set higher. It's hard to imagine any fan thinking that the musical chairs with our ADs has been anything short of a fiasco. It needs to stop, and she needs to find the right guy ASAP. No excuses. We're still an ACC school, have a nice academic reputation, and have a history of enough athletic success that it shouldn't be hard to find someone competent who wants to tackle this challenge.

View attachment 17797

We found people willing to come to Miami and ready to tackle challenges. They met with our administration and quickly saw how limited their efforts would be at Miami. They left quickly. Expect that cycle to continue as well if we continue to bring in candidates from outside of UofM who don't know what they are getting themselves into. They, like Golden, end up in shock at the administrative restrictions and limitations that they have to work with at Miami. These are very real problems that have become very well known throught the collegiate athletics world.
