OC Discussion Thread

Coley would be very good here. He was OC at FIU before he left for FSU. He does a lot with the game plan (all of it actually), just doesn't call plays.

The big question is why would Coley take the job? Certainly not for more money... And it's not really a "promotion" - unless he's just unhappy at Free Shoes. Just doesn't make sense to me...

Maybe he actually wants to call plays? Can you imagine being there for that long as an OC and the HC not letting you call the offense?

It's most definitely a promotion because he's Jimbutt's lacky at fsu and not calling plays. An offensive coordinator who doesn't call plays is like being a **** star who doesn't get to f#ck.

Coley worked for Mario for a year at FIU as OC.

Coley is OC for Noles but doesn't call plays.

Guy is supposedly very sharp.

I am sure Al would forgive him if it means Alex Collins, Stacey Coley, 6, Keef and Denver to Miami.

This story has legs.

Thats a good counter. Id be shocked but it could happen. Id have a hard time hiring a guy who had been bad-mouthing me non-stop since I was hired. College football is a whole different world though

Doubtful Al will hire a **** like that who has never called plays at this level just to get some recruits he's probably going to get anyway. I don't want our offense to look anything like fsu's anyway. Feh!

I wouldnt either. How much of that offense do you think is Jimbo though?

Ah, my bad - I skipped over that part in the thread and didn't realize he wasn't calling plays. Well, even so - just seems like a weird move to me... What kind of offense does he like to run? Hood or others want to chime in???

I think it's pretty much all Jimbutt's offense. What has Coley done as an OC on his own? I think he was OC at FIU for one year, but I wasn't paying attention to FIU when he was there (or now for that matter).

Dude's an fsu alum, is an fsu diehard and has been souring S. FL on UM for 5 years now and pumping up fsu. How the **** does he suddenly craft a message where recruiting for UM doesn't ring hollow?

This rumor makes ZERO sense at all.

Would be a really solid move. Aside from locking up this class, it seems like he has a solid background and is a Miami native.

If he isn't calling plays then he really isn't the OC. OC's make their names developing game plans and executing the game plan. Hard to do that if you aren't calling plays.

I honestly don't know if he would take the job. he loves the Miami area (being Cuban and from Miami). But also is he is Jimbo's right hand pretty much. It was bc of Jimbo that he first ended up at LSU and then his career really took off from there. He was also with the dolphins for a little bit as an offensive assistant.

There are some legs to the James Coley and Miami rumors. Will be interesting to see how things develop over the next couple days

I mentioned Thomas a couple pages ago. He has both college and pro experience, and is a QB coach too. Matt Ryan really improved this year also.

He has experience calling plays at the D2 level. He actually led the NCAA in total offense at one point.

I think he'd be a really good hire. He's young and a lot of potential to move up. Hopefully Al gives him a look.
