Oregon to make Mark Helfrich hire as head coach official today at a press conference at 1 pm PT.

This guy was never realistic for us anyway. He was going to be the O-coord no matter who they hired as the head coach.

They're hoping for the same result Stanford got when Harbaugh left and Shaw stepped in. I don't know all that much about Helfrich, but I do know that Kelly was the brains behind that entire operation. That was his offense and his tempo. His doing. Maybe Helfrich will be able to replicate it. We shall see.

just thinking about brian daboll as our OC is incredibly depressing. i really hope al doesn't do that. i feel the same way about daboll as i do about gailey -- there are soooo many coaches out there, why hire a guy who keeps getting fired? just find someone else that is capable.

I might be wrong but wasn't Fisch a QB coach at Seattle? I think that worked well for us and maybe we should try it again. I would be psyched if we could get Clyde Christensen from the Colts. I don't know if he's ever called an offense but he's been coaching 20+ years all over college and the NFL.

I think you have the right idea, but I'd rather a young up-and-comer than a guy who has simply been passed over for promotion for a few decades.

He bounced around in college for awhile then spent 5 years in Tampa in the late 90's, early 2000s. Has been with the Colts since 2002. That's a lot of time around some great QBing and Tony Dungy. Mighta been hard for him to ascend due to the Manning factor. He didn't do well with Painter and whoever the other guy they had before Luck but, like I said just throwing it out there. I don't have the resources, playbook knowledge, or motivation to research any candidate. Especially since my opinion doesn't count for anything. I trust Golden but, looking at the QB coaches around he seemed the most intriguing.

Barry Jackson mentions Brian Daboll as a possibility, don't know how much stock to put into that.

He would be the worst choice of all time. I live in KC. He is the absolute worst OC I have ever seen. Please please please tell me he is not even being considered. Did you see how bad our QB play and offensive production was under this clown. We scored like 5 TD's all season.

Brian Daboll would be the WOAT selection

Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn were the QBs.

Did he make them any better?

I think any NFL coach is likely to succeed in college though, especially as a coordinator.
