I'm no star *****.

The fact is, we have 7 commits and all of them except one are 3 stars. The one that isn't is a low 4 star on ONE site.

That might be OK at Duke, because they have the staff to coach them up. We don't. We need 4 and 5 stars if we're ever gonna do anything.

I'm fine with taking 5-6 lower rated guys. Our entire class right now is low rated guys.

The kid looks good to me. Not sure how you can compare a high school junior to one that's already played at Miami. Some of you folks jump the gun way too much.

I would be more upset if this was a lower rated skill guy.

Truthfully, the only guys I wish they wouldn't have taken so far are Fines and this kid. The other five have legit big time offers, stars be damned.

But I'm a star *****, I have no problem admitting that, and I hope one of the big time targets commits soon.

Such hypocrites too.

All they care about is what rivals says about a player.
Most of these star whores have never even watched tape of the players, much less met them and worked them out like our coaches.

The problem Coker had was that he and his staff started relying on online sites in assessing talent versus the eyeball test.
Coker and crew got 4-5 star talent and 10 star attitudes without anybody with the heart of Russell Maryland, The Tez or Rusty Medearis.
Going for stars couldn't get us anybody with even the heart of Frank Costa, and it tore our team chemistry apart.

Did people react the same way they're reacting to this pickup? If the film looks good people won't **** about it. When people watched the tape on Collins, Rudolph, Gray etc. the talent was obvious. This isn't the same situation as those.

Thats not the point, if the kids not good enough 10 months from now they won't be here. That's just it 10 MONTHS FROM NOW, the kid can get better or worse we dk but nobody should expect a commit list in March to be the same by NSD. Theres 0% chance that all of these guys are NSD time

Take everything into consideration when analyzing a recruit. His tape is okay. He isn't necessarily exploding off the ball in run blocking and he isn't driving kids back on contact. He is locking up and then driving, which is fine for 250 lbs line men in Pennsylvania, but that **** ain't gonna work on Mario Edwards and Andrew Brown. You can't let seeing him drive high school kids into the ground make you believe he is a beast. Watch his initial contact and his feet. Not all that great. The good news is we run a zone scheme, so one on one vertical drive blocking is not as important. He's not ranked on most sites, telling me that 1) no one regionally really knows about this kid 2) he hasn't done camps 3) there is no opinion on him. If he was a high valued recruit, there would be an opinion. Silver lining is OL is the one position that I'm not too worried about rankings. Non-ranked or low ranked OL make it all the time. Finally, his offers. He doesn't have an offer from a major PA school like PSU or Pitt. Schools that recruit the NE hard like OSU, Rutgers, UVa, ND...nope. He has a BC offer, which is encouraging, but I'm of the school of thought that if we are going out of state this early, he needs to be a highly ranked or highly coveted player. Otherwise, if we are going to take project/diamond in the rough kids in March, we should take So Fl Kids. Congrats on your commitment.
 
If he isn't UM Material come fall, he will be easy to drop. We've done it before. Its harder to do locally because you don't want bad blood in the air, but for some random PA kid, its perfectly feasable.

IDK whats up with this class though, will be interesting to see the dominos fall this summer because its slow out there meng

I agree but at the same time those are things you can coach out of a kid. I just see a kid that is a former basketball player who is blowing up in football. Everything he does that is bad just looks like things that can be fixed with coaching.The stuff you can't coach he does have. Aggressive, size, his weight isn't great but a 6'5" basketball center isn't supposed to be over 270 in high school. I see this kid blowing up in the spring, I definitely think we got a steal.

What is it that you don't like about Fines? I'm just asking. I've only seen his film and haven't heard much about him.

I guess you don't see where taking these guys has gotten us so far ...same type of dudes yal couldn't wait to get rid of this year, the jag seniors...look where being star whores has gotten FSU....the big game
 
Golden's recruiting is catching up to his coaching and results on the field,it will only get worse from here on.
