New 2014 DT Signee; Joe Brown

You know how people ***** and moan that we can't pick up JUCO DTs every year? What do you think those JUCO DTs looked like coming out of high school? What schools were recruiting them?

The answer, most of the time, is most schools didn't recruit them because of their grades and because their bodies needed a lot of work.

That's why JuCo recruiting is such a crap shoot. Even the top rated guys (Lovon Hooks) aren't guaranteed studs.

But most JuCo guys go because of grades.

And this kid was all set to go JUCO as well, hence the lack of interest overall. And I don't see anything about this kid's physical composition that couldn't be molded into an effective nose tackle. Guys like Earl Moore or Edgar Cerenord will never have long enough arms for the position, no matter how hard they workout. This guy can transform his body into what you'd want at that position.

This is not how top programs operate. If anything, it is an admission by this staff that they didn't get the job done on signing day.

And some are actually trash at first and then get some coaching at he JUCO level. Grades are always some factor but not always the full factor because its like saying he couldnt go to any of the 115+ 1a programs. Not exactly true

After watching Joe Brown's HUDL Tape......this kid's game is awful Al Golden should be ashamed of himself

I hope he eats all of No d lunch so he cant grow that big *** gut. This is really pathetic. More WF and UVA left overs....at Miami. Im now convinced these dudes think they are still at Temple. They just need Dts to stand around and not do a **** thing. smh. You shouldnt be depressed in the offseason no matter what but this is pushing it

That's an insult to UVA...Coach London can actually recruit DT's

He'd be a completely different player after going JuCo than he is coming out of high school. You'd be recruiting two different players.

Heurtelou coming out had no offers, so he went JuCo, worked hard and got some decent offers coming out. This guy look terrible. Maybe had he went JuCo he'd be worth the scholarship, but right now he's not.

Again, just because a kid is big doesn't mean he'd make a good NT. He can big and still get his **** pushed in.

I agree about the signing day part, but most of the 3-4 heavy teams in CFB either have JUCOs or guys who came out of nowhere playing NT.

I don't love the pickup but I can see the projection. Plenty of defensive lineman are recruited so they can play 3-4 years from now. This is nothing new.

Pro's: Size.....kid looks to be a legit 6'4 320 plus kid, Has play reading ability and solid down the line pursuit ability....

Cons: Plays too high..actually got moved back by kids that likely work @ radio shack now, not much explosion...i dont know if it was him just wanting to read every play..but in "highlights" he blew off th eball maybe once or twice. Weak comp, and not alot of "OFFERS" though he is in LA and had PLUS size...some solid programs would of offered even if he was juco bound.

Kid is what you get this late in the game @ dt..He is a definite redshirt imo as his strength needs work and he is very raw. A project kid..probably 3 notches below Travonte Valentine @ this point who he looks to be replacing as a player. But imo when you go with a "project" u go with big kids with size...and he definately has a sh*tload of that....

I'm ho hum about this commitment..could be a gem 2 yrs from now...guys like Isadora are going to kick his *** around with that get off for a year or two in practice and he'll get better...maybe they see some Terrence Knighton in him...i'd take him over a Corey King / Earl Moore anyday though as they dont even fit what we run,.

Now this is a reasonable response - well done

You really don't think the coaches don't have this scholly thing figured out?

JC

When they bring in a guy like this, who's only other offer was apparently from f***ing UTEP, knowing we have scholarship reductions and limited spots for a potentially loaded 2015 class?

No, I don't think they have it figured out. They haven't earned the benefit of the doubt.

Those who are willing to defend this kid getting a scholie for the next 4-5 years will defend anything this staff does.

5.8 40 laser time? No thanks

Accidentally liked this post but please tell me why straight line 40 time means anything in a dt. Football quickness maybe not straight line speed.

a 5.8 40?! Come on now.

What kind of 40 are Paul Solilai or Sione Po'uha or Sam Adams or Ted Washington or Dana Stubblefield running?

The only time dts run the 40 is during practice
