Name that Miami likes at WR

I hear you. That’s fair. The good thing about Mario is he’s going to let QB’s compete so nothing is set in stone and I expect a big time portal to come in December or so.
I will say I’m not betting against the kid being good. Everything surrounding Miami right now is trending in the right direction and if he’s not the guy Mario will find the guy. I’m simply saying how do we know? I know Emory shows up to work every day, performs and will get his chance to be the guy and that’s all you can ask. Any staff would love that

Never been a mope. Am facts and logic driven. And when im wrong i own up to it. Cant say the same for everyone here. They dont wanna own everything they said over the summer. But its kool
There’s nothing logical in thinking that 12 completions into his freshman season that Emory has leveled the field with Lagway, Raiola, Saylin and similar for elite level 24 WR recruits.

I think Emory looks good. We need to see more over time and against stepped up competition.

Let's be very clear here.

You are correct that Lagway has clout as a 5-star. That is the truth.

On the other hand, we do not CURRENTLY have a 5-star QB. So what we SELL is the rapid development of a guy like Emory. DOESN'T MEAN IT WILL RESONATE WITH ALL RECRUITS. But you show them what is happening with the WRs development and with QB development, and then you point out that Mario is going after blue-chippers at every position, and is never resting on laurels or being content with what we already have.

Will it work? I have no idea. But we can't snap our fingers and create a 5-star QB recruit overnight.

I would certainly not argue against @JustAFanHTX and his assessments, even if I do think it's funny that Gaytor fans believe Lagway will be their savior from Day 1, while our Mope Squad doesn't allow us to have a moment's worth of optimism on the first 6 or 8 months of Emory's development at UM. And your point on the RECRUITS is spot-on.

But we have to sell the development angle right now. It's literally our strongest selling point when we go from 5-7 to 5-0 in one year (and, yes, I think we are going to beat GaTech).

Doesn't mean anyone is slurping, but you just have to sell the inventory that you have, not the inventory that you wish you had.
I’m in 100% agreement with this and I really appreciate that you see and understand the nuances in my language. I think Emory looks really good and coaches have to sell that. It’s not a slap at Emory but just reality that their job would be a lot easier if they were sitting with Lagway or an upper tier known QB recruit for 24 right now.

I still think we can flip one. Staff’s been that good.

Everything you say is accurate and I completely agree with this post. I think a big thing that has changed with Mario is that the best players will play, no matter what. We have several guys on defense right now who WE THOUGHT would be starting this year, and yet they are not. So I trust that we will put the best product on the field, or else hit the Portal over and over again until we have the team we want.

But you are right, production is the ultimate benchmark, and you can't produce until you are on the field enough to build a body of work.

Also a very fair stance. Selling development is really the way to go imo. QB’s are living a microwave economy right now where development is taking a backseat and as good as I KNOW lagway is he’s going to be forced to play day 1 at Florida and that could be a disaster. Does that mean his talent magically went away? Just multiple ways to approach the hardest position to project

My man, this post is SOOOOO MONEY. There is a noticeable difference between guys who are principled in their analysis, who can see the good and the bad indicators, and who can be HOPEFUL for improvement even when they see that there is room for improvement.

What is getting predictable and comical right now is how the Mope Squad is trying to get right with God by acting like their years of toxic negativity are the "same thing" as what guys like @JustAFanHTX or @1murhurricane do. THOSE GUYS have an eye for analysis, which is why I listen to their comments and respct their assessments.

There's a huge difference between THAT...and the guys who rush into every slightly-positive-outlook thread in order to say something negative.

Yessir. I do not profess to have coach-level analytical skills, but I've seen plenty of players who have suffered from being rushed into the starting lineup.

And make no mistake, I have nothing against DJ Lagway, but I know that Gaytor fans are hailing him as a Day 1 savior (until Mertz shocked them all against Tennessee). I'm certainly no fan of seeing an 18 year old kid develop PTSD by being thrown into 8 (or more by next year) SEC games against SEC D-lines...

Yeah man! I like Emory but way too early to tell what we have there fully. Current stats don’t mean squat especially vs the competition he played against. I want him to succeed but like you said, we will find out in the off-season if a transfer is brought in or not. Speaking of stats, these were Tate Martell’s stats at Ohio state freshman year. It means nothing! The 2019 were his Miami stats.

The Tate Martell hype was a low point for the board, IMO. I agree that we still need to see more from Emory, but you could watch Martell’s tape for the 3 minute duration it had and see why it didn’t translate to being a P5 starter.

Back to Ny Carr...

From a poster on Mansell's ON3 board,

My old HS teammate/Colquitt staffer/player parent:
Carr decommitted to BMac two weeks ago. Da U NIL huge

Seems to match up with comments made by Mansell himself last night about Miami being "all in"
Mansell seemed to think the UGA staff was blindsided. Even their 247 guy said Carr told Bmac when he visited for So Carolina game.

Rusty Mansell this afternoon:

WR prices are going UP and the 3-4 big time portal players that usually enter are getting LARGE amounts.. It is going to be interesting how it is going forward
Would not panic just yet, but losing Carr hurts no way around it

Miami was already at the school this morning ....

I LOVE the way this is going and even more so Mario shoving it up B Mac's ***.

From Ferman's ON3 site: they spoke to Carr's coach

- Cody Woodiel was in Carr's school this afternoon to check up on Carr and Landon Thomas. Miami has emerged as a stron contender for Carr and their chances with him are better than with Thomas

- Carr will visit Auburn this upcoming weekend and be at Hard Rock for Ga Tech game on 10/7 (when Jeremiah Smith will also visit)

"He’s obviously opened up his recruitment to test the waters and see if there’s a better fit for him on and off the field,” Colquitt County head coach Sean Calhoun told CaneSport after Woodiel’s visit to the school. “Hopefully he gets all of his questions answered through this whole process.”

-Calhoun said Woodiel didn’t ask much about his on-field production or abilities but inquired about his character, his personality off the field and his behavior as a teammate.
